Firstly I have to say I hate these kind of posts!

I have had my S4 for around three months now and absolutely love it. I went into S4 ownership with my eyes open and it is averaging around 19mpg for my short commute to work which is roughly where it should be (I think) however on a longer journey over Christmas (approx. 130 miles each way) it has only averaged 23mpg which I think is low, the book says it should have been up nearer to 30mpg.

What are other people averaging? Do you think there might be a problem with it? It's due a major service shortly but had plugs done last year.

For me 3 mile commute is 17mpg if i'm lucky, which is why I normally ride my bike!

Run from Epsom to Littlehampton (45 miles) will get around 26 to 29 mpg with 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 German Shepherds and a few days change of clothes and some food/beer.

For a 130 mile run, presuming you're getting decent average speed of 40 to 50 mph I would say you should get higher than 23 mpg.

I didn’t notice any mpg difference between my summer 19’s and my winter 18’s but like I said my old manual car was much better on fuel getting the book mpg was easy and I was always shocked how good on fuel it was. My DSG car is at least 3-5 mpg worse.

To add mine has an Injen induction kit and that dropped the MPG even when driving sensibily so again sounds like yours is not where it should be.

Low 30's for a proper run and 19 for short sounds about right

I can get 18mpg when in dynamic mode for 80% of any journey in my S5(how an S should be driven) 80% because I always make sure the car is warm before I select dynamic, I am never really harsh on the car.

My wife just returned 32mpg for a fullish car, 3 people plus light luggage. But she doesn't drive it properly .

Mine is also Stage 1.

I ran nearly 2500miles down to the Swiss Alps, Austria around Europe last year on a 8day road trip on everything from A roads, Autobahns and mountain passes including a visit to the Nurburgring and averaged 24.5mpg.

Best , as you can see on a 232 mile journey with 2 adults and 3 kids and boot full of stuff

@Tashfeen - thanks for the second photo, it made it worth reading this thread! (Although you know that top speed is in 6th gear?)

I'm not sure why I clicked on a thread which has both "S4" and "mpg" in the title. :(

It was on the day I picked up the car and was just 'playing' with it on my way back from Aberdeen, sorry I meant to say Germany . Didn't bother putting it in sports or manual to check however I did hit 165mph and I was surprised that it wasn't limited to 155. Off course a friend took the picture .
