What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

Then woke up , blast it was all just a dream...….must have been all the mulled wine...lol
Doesn't help that the piccy was so big that scrolling through it took just long enough for me to start thinking 'Oh My God, maybe he has...' lol

Purchased a new armrest lid for the avant for the grand sum of £10.90 off the old ebay. Quality is also suprising good for a non gen part. Due to the amount these latches brake, i was unsure whether my lid was original or not so i went for a more textured grainy look the match the seats. Its just a shame it looks so good!

I'd love one but not going to happen just yet ….the old bus will suffice for a while yet.

I wonder the same thing! When i retrofitted my armrest, the one i bought came with a broken latch, so just replaced it for about £1.50ish and never had an issue...

Believe it or not just caught it absent mindedly and ‘ping’ it went. Even my best carbon fibre/epoxy work wouldn’t put humpty together again. Fleabay it is mate

As I couldn't get the rs6 avant ...lol I decided to upgrade my HU , organised one of these from another source( not halfrauds)for £294.00

It looked very smart in halfrauds today when I looked at it aswell , should be a nice touch in the old bus.
saved a fair few pounds online aswell.

Rob, what's wrong with the Pioneer?
No way is the JVC going to be better than the Pioneer in terms of sound quality.

After the heartbreak of a busted armrest latch I decided to console myself with a set of shiny H&R spacers...it’s christmas after all

When i saw console i was expecting a centre armrest related pun!
Excellent work on the spacers, front or rear?

Had an oil leak from the valve cover, all over the place, why I don't really know as yet, is it something that maybe about to go pear shaped, very possible.

I'll have to keep an eye on things now...

Best to pop the bonnet and check the oil level or make sure to turn the key two clicks then wait a second to see if a low oil light flashes before driving to save killing the car. I keep 1l of oil spare in the boot but in your case it might be better keeping 4 handy, got a few lucky and not so lucky oil stories...

OK, had my bus (S Line Quattro Avant) for nearly a year now, various niggles need to be sorted.

SO, started today to replace the suspension (beginning with the front, will do the rear as a seperate job) & also take care of a knackered wheel bearing.

I have found the S Line suspension to be annoyingly 'jiggly' - especially on our roads that consist of potholes loosely joined with occasional tarmac.

Dismantled passenger side first - have had knocking & bangings from this side for a while now as well as the wheel bearing droning.
MUCH problems were caused by the lower hub carrier ball joints both requiring EXTREME force to get them off. This was carefully applied with the BIGGEST F'ing hammer I could find as well as a selection of balljoint seperators (one of which I bent). Found that the Front Control arm joint was actually pulling the steel insert out of the hub carrier with it so it required further treatment on the bench to get it pressed back in.

Very frustating as I have done this job a couple of times now on my B6 A4 & my dads Passat so thought this one would go without problems......
Anyway, heres a pic of how far I got before giving up earlier tonight......... :grumpy:

Starting out

To be honest the pioneer is great and has work perfectly since fitting , I was looking for an upgrade that included some more app etc based functions and this looked to be a good choice.
What I have just realised is that I play a lot of cd's and the JVC doesn't have a cd …..so means i'll need to move all my cd stuff onto other tech, maybe sending it back without opening it now, blast......

Fitted some LED number plate lamps to my avant yesterday, and my Connects2 adaptor arrived today so was keen to fit that. Car hadn’t had the aux in output coded in ‍♂️
So....
Waited for a mate to pop around this evening and it’s all working perfectly!

Have you seen the Xtrons units which look like the RNSE? They have CD inputs and app based stuff too as they’re android powered. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/273324092643

If I wasn’t an iPhone user I would probably be more tempted.

Not a big fan of Xtrons , a few guys I know locally had them and nothing but issues so tend to stick with what I know really.
CD is a factor as its my main music source , really don't want to be transferring all my music collection to a solid state format .
the JVC has some good features I would like but is missing the CD player, may just stick with the pioneer now.

I hear allot of good and bad about Xtrons, would personally get something with Apple Carplay or Android Auto in it if I was swapping but I'm a bit mad on all things Android :playful: the ability to boil my kettle with the car on my way home is no doubt something in my future (already got a kettle with the ability just lacking the car functionality).

Carried on with front suspension replacement - encountered various ****** annoying & time wasting holdups along the way........

Got the upright/Wheel bearing carrier off the car, Used some 'carefully' applied force (with a 4lb hammer, repeatedly) to get the bearing off the upright. Cleaned everything up, had to remove the Wheel Hub from the bearing so I could reuse it. Used a 3 leg puller + Various packing washers - seemed to be going well until.... BANG!...... bits flying everywhere! The Bearing had broken up, leaving the inner race still firmly attached to the Hub. Much swearing ........then got out the angle grinder and ground it away till I could split it & get it off. Did I mention the swearing.......

Bearing Maladies

Having got past that, next removed the strut & dismantled it to get the upper mount for reuse. The top nut proved a pain to get off (surprise) but eventually complied. Decided to change the upper mount seating rubber as I had a couple of new ones lying around (a pair of B5 upper mounts) & also not happy with the puny rubber dust shield that came with the new struts - pulled the original Audi one & fitted it onto the new bumpstop (which is shorter than the original).
Now got the new adjustable strut/spring & started assembling. This actually went OK with no real problems.
So now, at the end of the day, got the new strut & hub carrier/upright ready to go back on the car tomorrow along with all new Control arms - I have a set of adjustable upper arms so will fit them to allow for camber adjustment.

After having a very annoying accident last week that’s increasingly looking like a crash for cash con - I’ve installed a dash cam. ECP have a Next-base cam bundle for £50 atm

Broken headlight - minor, dented bumper, deformed cross brace ... minimal damage - but insurance is gonna Screw me over.

Other Car was stationary on the exit of a blind corner on a single carriage way (plenty of lay bys on the road to pull over in) with no break lights/hazards on - driver appeared to be out of the car, with the door open. It was raining and there was mud in the road. Collision happened at less than 5mph after some extremely hard breaking.

With that amount of damage to the front cross member i would have thought the grill would be smashed to bits, are you sure it wasn't already damaged perhaps before your ownership.

have to agree with above, the front grilles are flexible to a degree but no way would it have survived an impact that left the crash bar like that, that dent looks old aswell

Perhaps, although looking at replacement cross members already have a pre formed crease at the each corner front.

I’m surprised at the resilience of the Quattro - if the bump had been too much hard the front would’ve crumpled and airbags would have deployed, making it a write off.

Crashes are funny things, being a panel beater i see all sorts of things. The smallest impacts can cause more damage than you think once you start pulling bits off

+1 for that!

Hit a badger last Christmas, pulled over, checked the car over, all looks completely fine, the impact just popped the fog covers out.

Had a proper look next day, bumper mountings shot, grill mountings shot, AC condenser smashed.

Why are you parting company Dani, thought things were on the up with it.

Putting the engine oddities to one side , decided to change alloys for the final time.
Going back to what I really , really like and what I almost got but got sold a duff set.
20" A8 alloys and to just be 100% they don't rub , changing to Bilstein coilovers as I want the back end up a shade and the front down a tad....

Its this darn pic again that's to blame.

A412

so looks like i'll be selling my current damper / springs and alloys.....

I do like those a8 alloys, big time.....

Hey Bobbytea - I wondered about the 'creases' in the front bumper bar when I had the front panel off mine - thought it was accident damage then thought a bit harder after realising they were 'too perfect' - they are there to allow for rear clearance if you have parking sensors on the front! :rapture:

So, carried on again today with Front Suspension Replacement. This is taking longer than expected because I am taking time to clean things up, adapt/modify as necessary & even paint some bits too! :pride:

Todays progress saw the strut & upright back on the car with the new arms as required. Apparently, a picture paints a thosand words so here goes......

Strut Assembly fitting

Tomorrow the brakes go back on! Yay!
