B8 Sepang B8 RS4 Owners Thread

..... My only concern I've noticed is a rattle coming from the centre dash around the MMI housing. From previous knowledge of a MY16 Q5, the plastic housing gets warmed by the heater matrix and plastic then flexes. Is this true? I have to admit its something I will want sorting but would rather better understand rattles first.

Oh, lastly Merry Christmas!

The cheap plastic around my dashboard made creaking noises and was worse in colder weather, reducing after a few miles once it had warmed up. Initially I just wedged some cardboard in as in the picture below and then someone on here suggested blue tac, which has mostly sorted it.

There's whole threads on the subject with some ordering complete new dashboard bezels.

Gonna go through all this later today. Much appreciated. I suppose the dash could be one of the culprits. Gonna try the doors tomorrow.

My doors appear to be different to your symptoms. The colder the better. Anything above 7-8 degrees and creak like mad. The fittings inside. Tyre pressure also seems to make it worse. If it's the proper pressure it's worse. Weird.

Well the inevitable happened last night, was rushing trying to park the car to get to work and caught a kerb on an unlit road! Couldn't believe it, never have I kerbed an alloy before and so soon after collecting the car. It damaged half the side and took the rubber of the sidewall of the tyre, not a bad job on my misfortune. Trip to the dealership, especially as the alloys were just refurbished, although the god send is it gave me chance to look at the alloys and to my horror the diamond cut is blotchy. Clearly, something went wrong and its on all 4!

Creaking for me is becoming a pain in the ****, the MMI housing won't stop no matter if car is warm or cold and a noise is coming from rear left passengers seat that is intermittent. I'm going to take the car back tomorrow to have everything addressed.

Plus side, I got just over 300 miles to a tank in 3 days (too excited not to drive it) and an average of 25.9mpg. Really chuffed.

300 miles? Wow. Good effort. I'm going up to Scotland this week. I reckon I can achieve that.

Sorry to hear about your kerbing. I empathise. 'Exact' same thing happened to me. And all 4 wheels were in **** state. Botch job on all of them from Audi on collection a month before.

I'm gonna have a bash at sorting creaking on the doors tomorrow. Let you know how I get on

Honestly, its such a joy to drive, even in comfort mode, although I do find it changes up quickly. Especially pulling onto the motorway and by 35mph I'm in D7. Might get Audi to reset gearbox so it can learn new parameters.

Interesting you mentioned about the wheels, Audi use a very well known company in London who I have seen there previous, work and to be frank, I'm shocked its happened, I hope they will rectify it and sort out the kerbed alloy.

Out of interest what are you all getting to a tank before filling up, I've found Tesco Momentum 99 has always been the best value for money and better MPG.

I think you'll be lucky to get the alloy sorted free but given your discovery, I might be wrong. I'm totally unimpressed with dealerships of late. Wish I had a good one near me. I'm actually looking to swap mine for some titanium rotors.

I get between 250-280 most tanks. But I seldom ever drop beneath a 50mile range. Haha. I ain't taking the chance with this thing. I use V power or T99.

Comfort box setting just keeps revs very low in order to maintain efficiency and well...comfort. I like it. But I do know what you mean. Deeper depression of the accelerator should stretch the gear changes out. I've experienced what you have on a motorway on ramp too. 5th seems to hold quite a while in comfort. Until it figures out what you wanna do.

I have a feeling, I'll be lucky, but hey ho, I'll pay if needs be to get it sorted including the rest of the alloys before it goes in for detailing on the 03rd Jan. Otherwise, I would be wasting my money and the detailers time coating wheels that need refurbishing. Rotors, interesting, they fill the arches better but something about the V ticks the boxes for me.

Good range, I had 20 left before filling at 290. Didn't want to go that low, but the fuel gauge wasn't playing nice. Ha! The Mrs asked about economy mode which she loved in the S3, but I kindly reminded her that this is not the sort of car that is ever going to be good on fuel, and its no Prius! :)

Haha. The famous quote from the tech/designer who was in charge of it. So why no Efficiency mode on the RS4?

"Wrong car...", he says.

Comfort is efficiency mode. V spokes were a must have for me. But I guess the rotors have just grown on me again. Even on the new B9, ok...the choice of wheels is woeful, but the 5 spoke milled alloys look superb on it

After having to swallow my pride and be an old fuddy duddy, I've decided to get the centre silencer assembly fitted to my Milltek. It's just too much with the valves open unless you're properly on it! The drone/boom at lower revs is off the scale crazy. So I'm crossing fingers that I can keep the awesomeness that is 'valves closed' with a far more refined 'valves open'. Gonna get that done asap and sell the silencer replacement assembly. Within next fortnight hopefully.

Will also be ordering the Canyon Run CR15 Strut brace and my gearbox undertray cover that 'fell off' a few weeks back . Looking forward to seeing your detailing before/after shots

Glad you're loving the car mate.

Some patience required today I telya.

Took passenger side door cars off in order to tackle creaks. Snapped one of the joining clips. They appear to be quite different to the ones I seen in the tutorial online. Anyhoo. Taped a few rattling electrical connections and applied a tiny bit of Noico sound deadening on the outer door panel. So, we'll see.

Sorted the Memory Seat function. Done as Surrey Sam on RS246 said and extended the seat to max positions in each direction. Seems to reset itself.

Called it a day on the door card removal. I'll just snap more things. Grrrrr. Can't be good at everything eh haha.

Great job mate! Need to get you working on mine. Ha!

Sadly, not a good day for me either, took the car to Westfield in Shepherd Bush to make the most of the sales, car was doing 28.9mpg on way there, driving like a dream. Only to get back in it after a few hours and it sound very quiet even in a car park and wouldn't rev. I then noticed a distinct blowing/juggering sound when I was moving around. I thought, I'll let it warm up and then open it up on the motorway, but dropping to 3rd and flooring it to find nothing happened. Just had no power. I opened the drivers window and could hear it juggering and very little noise from the exhaust.

Luckily dealer was on way home and open till 1900 so I dropped it in and now they have it. They could tell I wasn't impressed, especially after the fiasco with the S3 earlier this year and now this. Hopefully they can find out what it is, I really don't want to be getting involved in the 30 day exchange remit.

Gutted is an understatement right now :disappointed:

Whaaaaaat?

Any dash warnings at all mate? There's never a good time for this but now is just even worse. You got a loaner? How were they at the dealers? I've not heard of this issue before. At all

No dash warning. Started it up in Westfield and was going to go for an obnoxious rev in the underground car park! Had to be done, but in dynamic mode car did not let out the true sound. I knew at this point something wasn't right and went back into comfort and then when driving out I could hear a blowing sound from what I would describe as exhaust downpipe. Through traffic you could hear the car was chuggering sound bit like a chattery old diesel. I left it in comfort and manual downshifted to 3rd and hit the accelerator. Nothing, I mean there was acceleration but no explosive force, not wanting to rev.

Its currently at the dealer who are great, got me an A6 loaner straight away and when they started it they were like it doesn't sound right. They are saying they may not look at it until 2019 but I've asked them to diagnose as soon as possible as detailers is already booked. I couldn't believe it, I had already been in there at lunchtime to show them the dodgy wheel refurb and squeaking MMI housing, plus Ive noticed my steering wheel does sit straight. Thankfully, I'll hope this will all get looked at and I'll know doubt have to pay for my mishap the other day as well. Must say, not the best start to ownership, I don't want to give up but a lot has happened in 5 days!

Hey bud.

Long day on the road.

Wonder if it's something to do with severe carbon build up or the manifold.

What you wanna do is get yourself on RS246 forum. Go to B8 RS4 section and tag @surreysam in what you've told me, there.

There's some very knowledgeable folk on there. What mileage does it have?

Hope drive up to Scotland was good. How was the car?

No idea what it could be, hoping they sort it and don't just bin it off to auction.

I do monitor that forum but I'll register up and see what people think. Mileage is only a mere 26,000.

Wow.

That's really low mileage man. I hope someone hasn't ran it into the ground before you.

Regardless, as a platform, it's a pretty new car. Ya know? Guys on rs246 should be able to offer some insight. Get on there tomorrow mate. Keep me posted bro. Car was fine today. Surprisingly comfortable.

I simply did not get this alert. Just seen it. Thanks buddy

Not sticking as in...it's not 'not' opening. Just a dreadful squeak/scrape as it opens or closes and the catch goes into place.

Don't say these things. I've got enough going on with brakes haha. Whole judder thread going on at rs246. Haha. Getting there though.

In other news, I did this:

Yes bro.

Go straight to Brotek. Just google them. They're in Scotland. Posted out pretty quick. They're listed under accessories. £23

Thought they'd have fixed by now. They diagnosed a while ago.

Sadly the wheels need to be re-diamond cut which it went in for only to find out on Friday that Posh Wash missed the areas that needed addressing. The cars now gone back again to have them re-done! Needless to say not happy especially as they have just done 4 wheel alignment which they will have to do again if the wheels get removed.

Yeah.

I'm not digging Audi at all mate to be honest. Gonna need a display of good old professionalism and going the extra mile to win me back. Newcastle rushed my wheels for collection prep. **** poor job. Big flake has fallen off now where the air bubbles were.

One wheel is buckled too. Which, how can I prove it was them and not me? Just a pain in the ***.

Have I missed something, why will the alignment need to be done again just by removing the wheels?
How many times have the wheels been re-cut, don't forget they can only be done 2-3 times

It will unbalanced the wheels after the wheel alignment by swapping them around, that will naturally unsettle the car. Or so I thought...

This will be the 2nd time in my ownership which is not even a month! I did ask how many times and they said its fine, it doesn't matter. This is a reputable company called Posh Wash who are very well renown in London.

Hi All
After reading Thundercliffe post first thing this morning about wheel alignment an that.
I had the guy at National tyres do one wheel at a time so that it went back on the same corner of the car it came off while having all 4 tyres replaced today.
Done a cracking job and took extra care not to damage any wheel while removing replacing tyre.
In two weeks time it’s pads an discs all round....Ouch :wtf:

All round?? Flipping eck. I reckon that would cost me £1500 with labour.

You make a good point mate. Especially as each wheel is balanced differently too. Mine is sorted now. It's nice when somewhere you maybe weren't expecting to be great, out perform the more rated places.

still that slight buckle on drivers side front. I'd planned to swap the wheels out after winter for some used rotors but with this brake issue, the funds will be low. It's a minor buckle.

Anybody know what damage it could cause? Obviously, a serious and obvious buckle could damage suspension.

In other news, I may have sorted the boot opening squeak sound. Thanks to @noidea. I thought it was the locking catch but I think it's the hydraulic boot arm/vacuum pipes. I applied the the grease and opened about 4-5 times. No squeak. Will test tomorrow morning.

In at garage to get the diagnosis for the brakes in afternoon. Eek! Wish me luck.

Yea discs and pads are coming in at about £1800 alone...still waiting on my Audi indi getting back in touch with me on a price for labour on it all, he’s reasonable and takes care off your car while doing the work on it.
Then once it’s done he logs it all on to the official Audi S/History for that car.
He done the work on my RS3 before I got rid so I no what to expect from him.
Not sure either to stick to Audi OM pads or replace them for something else....and better.
Also getting all fluids, filters an plugs changed while it’s in.
Don’t want to be flaffing about, get it in and get it done.

As for your wheel mate, if it’s not noticeable on the feel of driving it I wouldn’t worry about it, but if need be I’d change it over to the back if it’s bothering you.
I’m sure things will be fine with it once you get it all diagnoses done on it.
10,000 miles and counting since I got mines in August...still makes me smile :racer:

10k really? Motorway or fun? Haha. Makes sense to get everything done at same time. I respect that. Finding a good indie is essential. Build a relationship.

Let me know how much all in from your guy. Be good to know just out of curiosity.

The wheel has been fine mate in all honesty. Cheers for the reassurance. Just didn't want to effect the 'sensitive' DRC haha. I'll keep an eye out for a half decent rotors.

I'm pondering Ferodo or Brembo pads for the rears as I'd like to experiment and they don't do that much in grand scheme. I spoke to Audi out of curiosity towards the pricing of OEM pads vs aftermarket. They confirm what I've found on rs246. That, the compound will be better on OEM for cold bite in and no noise. I reckon aftermarket is better on track though. Good to swap out before a track day.

Fronts though...hell of a price difference! Isn't there? Like, £200 nearly with some. Looking at Braided likes and upgrading to Dot 5.1 fluid. Not cheap mind all in.

Garage thought it was rears that needed replacing. So went out and disconnected the rears to test the front. Still judder on the fronts but not as bad.

I'm really not sure what happened on that Scotland trip but they're all knackered. Pads on front are just above sensor mark. Discs are 50% frustratingly. Rears are totally gone.

Quoted £2076 from where I got it tested. Already shot @creweaudiparts an email for parts Quotes and I think I'll beat that by quite a bit. Thinking Ferodo pads all round. If only to try something different.

Thoughts?

Not a good day. At least I know. Was expecting rears but definitely not fronts too. Thought it would be either/or. My main concern is this happening again. As I didn't drive like a loony at all.
