Facelift Soon be time to say goodbye

Just a reality check mate ... plus car prices are getting rather silly now. Have you seen how much the new A1 is ... I dread to think what the new platform A3 / S3 when they launch.
Crazy money. Meant to be the "entry" range but at £20k it's not that. A decent spec one is pushing £30k from what I've seen.

Yep, £18k+ for a 1.0 ***. And as you say even that with a few decent options heading towards mid twenties!

But as has been said many many times, a lot of people only worry about the monthlies, so whilst getting a discount is important, final price less so for a lot of people.

Latest Audi magazine advertising A3 BE for £249 p/m with £1400 deposit, but is a 1.4 manual. My wife’s JCW is £149 p/m, I know which I would rather have on my driveway.

Yeah saw that in the Audi magazine which dropped through the door the other day. If the price trend continues across the range, will have to consider what to go for after the S3. Love the car but if the monthly goes up anymore then different factor.

Agree with you on the JCW Vs 1.4 A3.

I think Audi - & some of the other brands in this sector - have enjoyed a good run with high demand & year on year price increases.

Now they are feeling the squeeze & have probably pushed things too far. I’ve never had as many calls from my Dealer trying to entice me into a new car as I have this year.
They’ve never had as many ‘special deals & prmitions’ lol

Regarding the prices, you’re spot on.
I had a ‘63 plate S5 (as you know) which was not much over £35k new and now, only 5 years later, I can’t get my S3 for that and an equivalent S5 is just under £50k....... WTF!?
Like Barry and others, I too may consider alternative brands.

You've hit the nail on the head there mate, I set a figure on what I want to blow on a car each month and that's it, I don't worry if there is or isn't any equity at the end...obviously it's nice if there is...but expect nothing and then there aren't any nasty surprises :)

Ohhh how did you manage the JCW for so little? I know it was the model switch but even so...big deposit?

I built my current car a few weeks back and got a quote from carwow, the price after discount came in the same as what I got it for last year...I then used those figures on the Audi PCP chart....same car with the same deposit/spec/miles/term/discount would cost me £60 pm more! No way I'd be doing that.

I personally believe a bit of a healthy pi55 take about inferior BMW and Audi products on an Audi blog is perfectly acceptable. The OP surely realises there are unlikely to be many BMW fans on here.

Happy Festive greetings... not wanting to use the C word for fear of offence.

Prices are shooting up because of the Brexit nonsense. £ barely worth 1.10 Euro now. It was 1.32 in June 2016 and 1.40 the year before.
Peoples vote to stop the nonsense, I want my Audis back!

A lot of Audi's are built outwith the EU....DOES IT STOP Audi putting their prices up.............Does it ****

Decent deposit, bit not a ridiculous one, think it was about £7k down

Audi is a German based EU company. They build the vast majority of their cars within the EU and the UK £ has devalued significantly as a result of Brexitbollox . This is an irrefutable fact. Of course audi will want to maximise profits but a 25% plus devaluation of the £ as a result of a right wing inspired Brexit proposal has made a major contribution to increased prices in the UK. I don’t buy my cars based on a monthly figure but realise many do.

He's a penny piching car changer mate...lol
lol yeah penny pinching, not many people I know would shell out £400 per month on a car!

My point has always been: Why put big deposits down if you get the car you want for the monthly payments you want to pay?!?!? I'd rather/and did spend a lump sum of cash paying my house off when I was 40...that's better than paying a lump sum off a car just to reduce the monthly payments...the house since then has gone up in value the cars haven't ;)

Everyone’s circumstances are different mate, sweeping statement there. Wife wanted and deserved a decent car, and chose the JCW. She did in fact get a lump sum payment due to critical illness this year. No point buying the car cash, but manageable monthlies after decent deposit also means when she wants to change in a few years time, there WILL be equity to take into next car.

I get the monthly payments you can afford comment, but bigger deposit and shorter term = less interest paid

Why not pay cash? I sign up for pcp to get audi contribution and then withdraw keeping contribution. Best interest rates circa 1.5% why pay 6% on pcp if you can pay cash or 3% on loan M&S Halifax etc.

I know this will never happen with me, hence why I use low deposits, that way when/if I do change quicker than expected I've not lost a great deal. I planned on having the S3 for 4 years...2.5 years in I changed it and made a few hundred more than what I owed on it. To keep the S3 longer would have cost me 4 new tyres, a 3rd service, extend the warranty all of which came over £1,000, I put that £1,000 down on the A5 and started again with very similar payments.

I’m done with big deposits. Put £5k down on my first A3, £3K down on this S3, going forward I’m putting down 0 and just being happy with the monthlies. Deposits just disappear.

For 95% of the time, a modestly powered car cruises along just as well.
It’s just the rapid acceleration & over taking with ease you miss.
@Snake Pliskin - Very much this ^
I think a lot of us have enjoyed our cars for years but are now thinking we’ve given Audi enough cash & it’s a nice feeling to reign things in.
Agreed my friend. Hence why I'm not driving an Audi after 16 years of continuous Audi ownership

Why pay out lump sum if not planning on keeping car more than 2-3 years? Paying now where near 6% mate, and in this case I was talking about a Mini JCW not an Audi.

Absolutely mate, some prefer to pay cash, others mix of cash and finance and others little or no deposit and high monthlies and others leasing, each to their own personal circumstance. I generally don’t like putting down big deposits, but like to ensure my monthlies are low for me

If the PCP rates are low - sub 3% I would consider. Audi tend to charge 6% + on more desirable models and imho there are better more cost effective ways to finance than that.

Completely agree, would never pay that sort of rate, madness unless you can’t any better elsewhere.

I think it's been mentioned in this thread?!?! In the Audi mag this month a BE A3 sportback £1,500 down and £249 per month, 48 months 10,000 mile pm and hand back....yet a lease deal is only half the upfront cost!:

Over 36 months is £10 more and over 24 months is £17 more than the price below.

Yes it was mentioned...madness. Leasing makes SO much sense if monthlies are the main driver, that along with lower deposit.

That’s some deal! Always wonder how they get away with putting a better model in the pic than they’re advertising though.
I’m defo looking at this route next time rather than pcp. What company is this with?

They are more expensive than most other leasing companies mate, the Audi brand are not great value for money on PCH,I would rather lease a VW or a SEAT...MORE TOYS same power, hence the Golf R deals and the Cupra deals are so popular now,it's all strategically designed by them

Select car leasing are part of the dealer network Down south

Select is who I got the S3 through, had the best deal available at the time with full maintenance for about £10pm extra. Certainly were not part of a dealer group 2yrs ago, were an independent lease company??

Available deals all depend on which company is financing the lease and which brokers have access to the provider. They are either manufacturer finance direct or via companies such as Alphabet, Arval, LeasePlan, Lex etc.

For me when leasing I always try & go for a car thats fully loaded
Hence the Cupra & Captur GT-Line (sat-nav, full heated leather, blindspot warning, f & r parking sensors + reversing camera, LED lights f & r etc etc)
The MINI that we had that went back in September was bog standard but was silly cheap, so I could put up with it for all the PCH benefits to me

For me youv'e got to do your research & be patient with PCH'ing
