No option for a cold start though

They close over after initial ignition though. It's just that 'bark' I'm worried about haha.

Valves open is too much. I'm not used to this! Haha. Valves closed is spot on. Just daily driving style wise.

Popped the valves open permanent over the tops. Oh. My. Good. Grief!! This thing is absolutely savage!!! When you're just proper on it, valves open makes total sense. Wow.

But for any other driving, if people drive around with this and valves open, they need their heads checking.

Gonna see how I get on with it. Center Res is always an option. I'd say only thing that bugs me is the over prominent change from valves closed to open after 4K rpm. Bit boomy. Just normal driving there's zero issue. But if you go over that rpm the valves open and it takes you by surprise. And I imagine any old ladies in the post code.

I love the sound though when you just boot it. I'll get some proper vids this weekend as I'm out in the hills with mates on @Fuelled_Adventures

Well. This little project is complete. Been quite interesting actually.

The car has some inherent creaks and road noise and when I got the @millteksport Non Res exhaust installed, it prompted me to try some vibration and sound deadening.

When you start peeling things back, you see how little insulation there is in places. Used Noico aluminium covered Butyl rubber for the vibration and closed cell foam for the sound deadening/insulation. The load tray custom sound matts are easily removable. Just lift out and fold away. So ideal for longer journeys.

Road/wind/tyre noise is heavily reduced now and that smidgeon of drone at 2k rpm is much much better. Ain't nothing stopping the sound with valves open though! Haha. But that's reserved for harder driving.

First decibel test was valves closed on dual carriageway at 50-70mph. Air con off. Today's test was up and down hills, twisty roads and town driving. Air con on. Booted it a few times too. So both extremes and results speak for themselves. Phew! Haven't wasted hours of my life then For £40, I'm well happy with the outcome. I'm just a few steps off of going to @DeanoC levels here in this thread haha. I wish. The foam between door cars and speakers though is such a good fix. Cheers Dean.

You went for it bud??

Was that the one they were going to send to auction and possible DRC issue?

What happened then? Oh, where are my manners...congratulations! It's a stonker of a car mate! Hope it's issue free and you have as much fun as I'm having. It has its foibles and flaws but it's an honest brute.

One of the best bits of advice I've had for day to day driving and spirited driving is from Sam on rs246.com forums. Honestly, go join that forum. Great info and folk there too. I was finding Dynamic near impossible to live with on my roads. Just too twitchy in the suspension. And comfort was too soft. No roll but just less focussed.

Sam said "ahhhhhh, you've fallen into the Comfort/Dynamic trap. Stick it in Auto!"

Mate, it's perfection. For this car anyway. I thought Auto would switch between dynamic and comfort but it sits about half way apparently and it's spot on

That was my setting until I got the Milltek. Engine sound is in Auto now. Start a thread mate. Be great to see how find the car. If you need any advice etc, just give us a shout. If I can't help, I'll try find someone that can

Yeah I did in the end, the dealership have been great and I have well lets say not the best luck with our S3. However, I know the dealer very well and have some good contacts that came out of the S3 buy back. Thankfully, Audi have been excellent and why I can't move away. In short, the dealer, serviced and checked everything and gave me full assurance that the DRC was checked and fine. That being said if it goes wrong I will have support. But 4 individual master techs looked at the car without any prior knowledge and all said its fine. They've done a lot of work on it to get it right and they know I expect the best and treat my cars the same way. Joys of OCD.. OR well car love!

This is a video of the car when it was sold last year to give you an idea of what its like. Almost identical to yours! Just sadly no Miltek.

HB14 lovely looking motor bud, welcome to the joys off ownership of the RS4 B8.5 :thumbs up:

Thundercliffe yours is coming along nicely and it sounds mental now with the Miltek.
I like what you’ve done with the sound deading, you can see you have a passion for this car and long may it continue mate.

Me I’ve not done anything yet as just to busy with work and moving house and that, Ghost am Tracker and that’s about it, I’ve got the led lights to fit inside the cabin but not got round to it. 8000 miles in it already and it brings a grin to my face every time I use it, except when I curbed it mind, or the car that flung a stone up and cracked my windscreen, but all fixed now.

Ahhhh I feel for ya man. Curbing is a blow to the gut haha. I got my alignment sorted after I did that. Really made a difference. It's a project alright. On going. I'm what...coming up 5k miles in mine. Got to sort the door creaks out. Sorted everything else. But these creaks are breaking me haha. Just open the valves and it goes away mind you got winter boots on yet?

This thing just puts the power down with ease. My mate has just got a stage 1 remap on his PP C63. No winter tyres. Should be alright for next couple of weeks but in the ice...I'm worried for him. 546bhp through summer RWD. Yikes. It virtually spun out in the summer with a bit of rain. He's a good driver though so hopefully he'll be fine.

You get the lights that Deano got? It's a pack isn't it? TRL the name? Pretty decent price.

Upcoming items:

Sound deaden doors

Fit new gearbox undertray

Canyon Run strut brace

Internal air filters

Do that in next 3 months. Then might look at the internal lights like yourself. Be good if you done some fitting write up mate.

Would appreciate more information on the interior lights. Coming from a new model that has them as standard it will be weird. But, I have heard, that they are causing numerous fault code problems?

Also, have either of you done door lights either (RS4) ones from Ebay?

If you buy the kit from Trupps at EM Tuning you won't have any issues.

Hi Mate,

Can you put any pictures up, the LED front indicators seem a nice idea. Coming from the fancy Matrix sweeping indicators is going to be as shock.

Also saw Trupps sells the reversing LED's. Anyone fitted this yet?

Here you go. It's difficult to capture how much difference these LEDs make without a before and after but trust me they are good. They indicator is brighter and very crisp as it turns on and off, if you get what I mean?

Easier to take the headlights out as they are a pig to get to.

Well, picked up the car. What can I say, the sound is like nothing I've ever heard before! Truly impressive and disappointing to say the B9 didn't retain the engine. Managed to even get 26mpg on way home which was spirited motorway miles. Only downside is the brand new parcel shelf was rattling, but we have a dog, so I've removed it anyway.
I have to admit I can't stop looking at it and can't wait to have it detailed then I'll post pictures. My only concern I've noticed is a rattle coming from the centre dash around the MMI housing. From previous knowledge of a MY16 Q5, the plastic housing gets warmed by the heater matrix and plastic then flexes. Is this true? I have to admit its something I will want sorting but would rather better understand rattles first.

Oh, lastly Merry Christmas!

Glad you're loving it. Rattles. Yes...I empathise. I'm sorting the doors on Wednesday mate as got a long journey ahead and it'll do my head in.

Cheers mate, I have noticed more and more rattles and only 48 hours in. Got a very distinctive one coming from rear seat even after removing parcel shelf that I noticed this morning after a spirited drive home from work. Out of interest, have you noticed the steering wheel heavy even in Comfort mode? Very odd compared to my S3. Its like driving a car without power steering. Ha! I also noticed the steering wheel always feels a bit to the right, might just be my imagination, but keen to hear if you felt the same.

I must say, its a beast, I really hope I don't get any major problems, I'm going to get Audi to sort out rattles ASAP and also look at gearbox as coming to a stop, it lunges into gear 1 while in 'Individual' in the setup you recommended.

Hey bud.

Gearbox in comfort, it should be fine. When car is started up and first pulling away, there's a slight mechanical clunk from 1st to second then smooth from that point on mine. I had all transmission services done before collection.

It's a Dual clutch so, it's never gonna be as smooth as the ZF etc but shouldn't be feeling rough. When the car is still cold, comfort steering is a bit stiff then fine when warmed up. Compared to my B9 S4 before, it feels like an old bus until warm just pop it in Dynamic for 5 mins and go back to comfort. It'll feel loose as a goose after that haha.

If you have the rear sun blind, remove that. It's over 5kg and just another rattler. My rattles are from speaker housings and memory seat module in the door cards. I took the car to Bradford Sytner and the guy said he couldn't hear a thing. Waste of ****** time and was clearly lying. Unless he's deaf.

Let me know how you get on!

I'll change that up to comfort and see if it helps. I get the lunge on downshifts while gearbox is in dynamic, from 2nd to 1st. It might be nothing, but coming from the same gearbox in the S3, although it was newer, I never had that. Do you find every time you start the car its on overrun, like a choke? I've even noticed after driving some 50 miles, the car is still smoking away at traffic lights, which I guess is condensation from the monster engine! Steering is definitely, still very weighted in comfort, something ill have to monitor unless I can find what would be the cause and ask the stealer to look at it. No rear sun blind, I was thinking about it, but from what you say, I'll take a rain check.

The rattles for me are the MMI housing, rear parcel, rear speaker housing I believe, I did think it was the seat belt but I've checked it and its not. And, I did notice a lot of flex in the windows which made and odd sound. In short, its the experience of owning a used car and what a wonderful one it is. But I must admit the quality has certainly got better, our loan MY19 A6 we had was leaps and bounds ahead in tech.

Lastly, I didn't think my car had adaptive lights, but I get a cornering/kerb light when I turn. Is this something all RS4's have?

Yes I believe all RS4s had adaptive and cornering lights. At lower speeds the lights will swivel and follow the road.

Yeah as No Idea says, it's standard. Pretty decent. I've got mainbeam assist which, in this and coming from B9 Matrix, is actually pretty decent . I'm gonna try listen into MMI housing before I tackle the next creak sound deadening.

As you say mate, mine is a 4 year old car. Part of used car ownership. 'Quirks'! Haha.
