As the title suggests I’m thinking of doing a retrofit for folding mirrors. I can handle the install but don’t have a vagcom is there anyone that can do this for me at some point? I’m in the northwest and have some spare beer tokens?! :)

Hi Dannyboy1985, I was looking at getting the folding mirrors retrofitted on my A7 and was given two quotes but found it hard to get something solid arranged. How did you get your parts, how did you know what modules you needed (internal and new switches)? I have the VCDS software and I've managed to recode some functions on the car but coding the car to have totally new equipment might not be as simple as it sounds. If you can share details of the hardware and what you paid, it could point me in the right direction.

Have not purchased anything yet but there are several mirror and module sets on the popular auction site. That should do the job... only need the trim and mirror switch then to complete. I’ve found the codes needed that in theory should be the easy bit.

I have just bought a pair of folding mirrors. I know my modules are good to go as they've already been checked. I plan on fitting without the four position switch for now but have the menus for auto fold already enabled and showing in the MMI. This should allow 'fold on lock'

What’s the parts list that’s needed?
I always thought that you just the motor/frame, switch and some coding and reuse all bits from the non folding mirrors like glass, cover etc

not sure if you need different door modules too? does anybody know the part numbers that support them? (its too cold n dark to take my vcds out to car to check if i've the option to code lol)

I've been trying to pin down the parts required but those who do the retro fitting keep it close to their chests and if you call Audi parts, they just laugh at you..!

All I know is, one retro fitter confirmed he would have to scan the car prior to doing any fitting to see what modules are installed first - I guess that's to determine what additional parts are needed.

I would guess, as my car doesn't have the folding mirrors (should be standard in my eyes) it would need the modules, motors and new door switch and trim. To date, I've been quoted £1,600 which is pretty steep!

seems i've a James Bond option :whistle2:

Basically my mirrors will sell for 150 and breakers set with module are 300. I’m not bothered about the switch so may leave that for now... hadn’t thought about not changing it! So I’m £150 for folding mirrors not too bad. Just need to sort a vcds now and should be good to go! All I’m bothered about is folding upon lock.

Would the module looks for or need that switch for it to work?

I don’t know I’ll update once further along it may well need it..

Is the wing mirrors exactly the same across the hatch, sportback and saloon?

As far as I can tell. I’m just going like for like to eliminate problems. Plenty of a3 sport backs breaking.

Might be something I will try over the festive period. There’s kits available on aliexpress but not sure of the quality.

Found this in the search as well which might help.

Yes, I want Audi parts and as it’s a used car I don’t mind buying used. Cheaper as well as being able to get the modules off the same car so I know the parts are right from the start.

The thread above is where I have started from seems most bits are in there regards coding although it’s always a bit of trial and error.

It could be a cheap retrofit if I don’t need the modules and reuse parts from my non folding mirrors. I have vcds and obd11 so coding part shouldn’t be an issue.

Was looking at Carista but not sure it will be able to do the door modules especially if it actually needs the code changing.

Obd11 should be able to do it if you get the pro version. My preference is always vcds but it’s so expensive now for the new one. Obd11 is convenient but labels could be wrong.

Just had a read through the other thread and looks like it is possible with obd11 although potentially needs the long coding entered. I may give that a go first! Ross tec is expensive and I think value for money you would have to go for an unlimited vin version...

vcds Is a bit expensive as a hobby/diy type tool more aimed at garages. Think this is where obd11 and Carista comes in.

Well jumping in with both feet here... have got a 3vin vcds £200... was going to be £100 for obd11 so rather a proper one for £100 different. The breakers that has my mirrors also has the dynamic tails so £500 all in for mirrors modules and tails! So... lol

How do you know your modules are
Good? Are there certain modules that will accept it?

I’ve got the modules and mirrors off the same car so if mine are not the right ones I can use the other that were on the car with folding mirrors.

You will need 2 folding mirror bases, 2 door modules if you don’t already have high line door modules, a folding mirror switch, mirror optics (graphics to show the folding mirror position and the driver door handle with the holes for folding mirrors. Then a few bits of coding to get it all working.
It you could just send us an email for a quote and let us handle everything!

Personally I’d rather do it myself, I’ve VCDS to code it, and a snap on box under the stairs. I’m just looking for part numbers for the door modules tbh, the rest is pretty straight Forward.

So, is anyone willing to give up the information?

I don't know off the top of my head, but ill do you some pictures when I get the door cards off.

For those who managed this retrofit do you guys have any part numbers?

I’m looking for the part numbers for wing mirror base with the folding motors on a RHD.
I think I found the numbers for the switch door trim so will post it once I confirm it’s right.

The ones I have here off an s3 are part number 021262. The modules are 5Q0 959 593 E

Cheers
Those are the modules I have in my car so hopefully don’t need the modules but that part number for the mirror looks like it’s missing a few digits.

Sorry, E1 021262. I’ve not checked my modules yet hopefully get this done this weekend if the weather cooperates!

Just checked my modules and they can accept the coding for folding mirrors so hopefully don’t need modules.
Let’s see if I can get the bits together and do this retrofit over the festive period since I’m off till mid jan.
