Roof rails

I don’t think the aftermarket ones are designed to hold stuff like bike racks and roof boxes. Just for aesthetics.
The factory ones are bolted through the roof so makes it a risky to try to retrofit cause it involves drilling the roof.

The proper way to fit the roof rails is the only way they should be done and that is to fit the genuine ones and drill through the roof.
Even if they were well stuck on and for aesthetics only,. would you really remove them when you sell the car?

I agree the proper way to fit them would be to bolt through the roof, but I can't find any after market ones that fit this way, and as far as I can make out, Audi don't sell them.

Just buy them from eBay, that's what I did both for my 8P and my 8V.
They do come up from time to time and if you need the fixings, they cost about £35 from Audi

Think that’s the part number you need for the rails. Not cheap from Audi, think it’s arounv £5-600 possibly more. There’s chrome, black and silver and possibly other colours that has extra letters after the part number.

Would be a huge job to retro fit to factory spec!!!!. Don't think i would want to half strip the car to do it?.

Don't fancy drilling holes in the roof of my car..... Only want to fit them for cosmetic reasons..... Think they look nice.

Think the problem is when you sell the car on and forget to take them off and someone mounts a roof box to it and it rockets off at 60-70mph.

Still trying to get my head around the concept of adhesive roof rails

I was surprised when I saw that the rails I was looking at were fixed purely by adhesive tape, that's why I asked if anyone had any experience of them.
Don't fancy having them peel off at 70 on the motorway!!!!!Lol

I doubt they will peel off. There are spoilers nowadays held on by adhesive and they are designed to break the air where as the rails will be more aerodynamic.
