Every day when I get to the gym I see people opening doors on others cars all the time, Last night I watched as some family pull up and opens all 4 doors on other peoples cars. This happens so much now days. I was in Waitroses car park the other day waiting to pick up some friends, Then some old beater pulls up next to me. too close to my passenger door. with like 30cm between us. the woman then went to open the door and stopped when she noticed me sitting there staring at her. she shuts the door and I flung my car in reverse and was out of that situation.... but she would have totally rubbed up my car with her door if i was not present....

Rant over, This really annoys me.

glad to get this out my system

Cars have grown 25% larger since the 1980/90's standardised parking space dimensions , unless its disabled bay size it'll get dinged .

I understand this but when theirs enough room for Me to open my door without colliding with others cars with ease then they shouldn't have a problem ether man.

Plus the spaces are of a generous size at the gym

Blame the bench press or tricep extensions for the doors being flung open .

similar thing happened to me the other day, park far away from everything, a family of 6+ pull up too close, I don't wait for them to open doors onto my car, just moved, but as you say, if I wasn't in the car, they would have opened onto my car.....makes me fume, especially when there are loads of spaces way closer anyway

Well the most common offenders are on a Friday nights roller disco event for kiddies, I haven't witnessed any gym goers doing it... Not saying that doesn't happen however. i have a reserved spot at the gym anyway so it docent effect me in this instance. But seeing it happen to others annoys me just as much

I have two kids car seats in the car and “kids on board” sticker on the rear window so even if driving alone, I always choose parents parking bay.

If not available and there’s loads of disable ones free, those ones.

I’m not parking like an idiot, at an angle or across two spots or leave my wheels sticking out of the wheel arch with full steering lock. Absolutely hate that lack of cooperation.

I am considerate driver/car owner to other road/parking users.

My road motto is “drive in a manner like you would’ve expect it from other divers”.
Shame only me got

Good motto, I expect the worst from other drivers so I go out of My way to avoid the situation. I'm planning on buying a big 4x4 or something (old shitbox) for the trips to the shops and other parallel parking situations, It's down to lack of caring at the end of the day. I was always thought to open doors with care. One dude had his kids open doors on cars, He got out inspected the damage and shrugged it off... some poor guy had a coin sized dent in his rear door.

Actually Sandra I think if you take into account the extras in the weekly shop, They could afford to lower 2 cars a year and end up saving money :sly:

I really cannot understand why anyone would think it’s ok to park in the parent/child bays or disabled parking, when not entitled.

The parent/child bays, were first introduced to cutdown on the number of kids getting knocked down.

These bays tend to have protective walkways to the store, which is so much safer than trying to walk through a busy car park.

Why do big shops get allowed the huge car parks that 40% never get parked in , they shpould be made make every car park space the same as a child /disabled parking sppace .
I dont know how to do a petition but it maybe would work getting it to the planners on the government.

I would sign!

so would I, but given the state of our pot-holed roads, possibly may not make it high up on the agenda :whistle2:

I have a "special" space at local supermarket with no other space on the right and you can pull over to the right to leave loads of room on the left. Car park dingers are a nightmare agreed.

The roads are a right state. The amount of road tax people pay they should be made of gold lol

I think next year I will try to get a old beater car for such trips.

Shop at ALDI, they have bigger parking spaces.

Lol wondering if there would ever be a better door design to prevent this in the future. Some real creative solutions include a rubber lining, sliding doors, etc.

Yep, I feel for you. And if you park a million miles away with empty spaces all around you, you come back to find a car either side! What's that about?

What about doors with sensors on, like reversing sensors, with a hydraulic ram in the door, that stops the door being pushed open any further if it detects an object. Very cheap to inplement I would think.

Yeah even if this becomes a standard. It would take a good 50 years to out breed current cars. Also its normaly people in old cars that have a lack of respect for others cars. The its to get me a to b mentality and i dont care about cars mindset lol
