Woke up and noticed the boot was open this morning. Ahh the joys of having the boot open when you don’t want it too. Let’s just say I’m not happy at all. Any recommendations to dry it out. I was thinking some of those humidity containers.

This is probably due to the button on the key being pressed by mistake. You can change how long the button needs to be held before the boot opens with vcds or obd11. Seems worthwhile to prevent future recurrence

I asked the dealer to reprogram the boot key press to the longest possible which is 3.5seconds. Seems to have reduced my accidental occurrences, but takes ages when I have an armful of shopping!

Might be worth investing in a signal blocker pouch for your keys like this. I have one for both sets of keys.

Just tested it outside. I pressed my boot button with my key in this pouch, whilst being stood right next to my car and it didn’t open. It’ll also stop car thief’s trying to relay your key from outside the house. Think I got two for less than £10. Obviously it won’t stop it happening with the key in a pocket and it being inadvertently pressed. But it could stop it being inadvertently pressed in the house or a draw.

Likewise. Never happened to me in both my A4’s either.

However if someone is having an issue with their boot randomly opening it might be worth keeping their key (even in their pocket) for a week or two in one of these pouches. If the boot does reopen randomly then it’s nothing to do with the key, it’ll be the car (if there is a fault).

May not be caused by accidental pressing of the key, i had a Mercedes ML where the tailgate occasionally would be open in the morning despite being closed when i retired for the night, i would check. Ended up being an issue will the car electronics but i can't remember what it was exactly.

Its done it once to me (whilst putting air in the tyres ...
In answer to the OP, a friend of mine recommends cat litter as a cheap way of soaking up the moisture

I'm sure mine was accidental, typically happened in office or customer visits when my wallet and keys in same trouser pocket, the delay and some care has solved it for me.

I almost have paranoia over this - hasn't happened on the RS4 yet - but for the previous car it happened a couple of times (keys in pocket always). Hearing the open tailgate catching every slat in the electric roller garage door as it opens is aural agony. So I too have a Faraday pouch and the keys go straight in at home.

We each have had a Faraday pouch for some time.
Have been bending down to open the carport wrought iron gates with key in pocket (but not in pouch) and have either locked or unlocked it, or opened the boot. Also dropped all 4 windows down half-way, but never been able to replicate standing up.

This happened to me all of the time when I first got it. The dealer changed the timing to 4 seconds which though is quite long, it’s never happened again.

Uncooked rice is supposed to be good at getting rid of moisture. However, I'm not sure how you would get rid of the rice, once it's done it's job?

This boot opening thing may well affect Avant owners more than it does the saloon..

I think the thread I linked to has a majority of Avant owners that have the electric tailgate release.
Of course it could be 2+2=5...

I had the same happen. Realised it was because I had the key in my pocket and by pulling the hose under the rear bumper I'd activated the 'kick to open' tailgate. Oops. Haha.
