Hello - I have just on Saturday ordered my Q5 S-line Tdi.

I have specified the Sun-roof as I want a lighter interior and had one on a X5 I had before and loved it. I have also specified the Comfort and Sound pack.

I appreciate that the car comes with Apple Carplay so will be able to listen to my music and stream as required.

What I have not specified is the Tech pack. I looked for used ones and demonstrators without and they all seem to have the Tech Pack. This is a 5 year car for me (or longer if the wife insists) so I want to get it right. I am missing something or do you only really get a flashy virtual screen and a slight upgrade to the sat nav for £1400?

Thanks in advance for your help

John

Congrats John. I have a 2018 Q5 without Tech pack, and I too thought the same as you...only flash virtual screen, upgraded satnav but I do wish I had gone for it tbh. I have managed to get some things coded in, like maps on central small colour screen, but tech pack gives access to more stuff. Would also say if a 5 year car, load it up...easy to say when not my cash

Hello q5man. Thanks for the reply. A query then, as you say that you had to get the maps on the central colour screen coded in. I thought you got a simplified instruction already supplied as standard. The dealer could only show me an A5 with the normal display so I don't know what I will get. I have been to Oxford, Newbury and Reading and none have non-Tech pack cars.

@Q5-John Congratulations on your purchase. How long before it arrives?
I have a very low mileage ex dealer management 67 plate Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI S line 252 BHP with full Tech pack. It still looks and smells brand new. I live local (12 miles) to Marshalls of Oxford and looked at the non Tech Pack cars and I am glad mine came with it. I too will keep mine for 4 to 5 years and would say if you can change the order, it would be money well spent. I used to have a sunroof on my BMW X3 xDrive 30d M Sport and I liked it, but do not have it on my Q5. I am local to the Oxford area, so if you are near me and able, you can call in, and get an idea at what the VCD screen looks like. See attached photos:

Hi @Q5-John. You do get the simplified instructions on the central DIS screen, but I wanted the option for the below:

8caf812002d66687eea260886e9245f5.jpg

Which I got coded in by @DJAlix from vagcarcoding. So made the best of what I could get. He was surprised I could get it, but seems even the “standard” 2018 sline comes with the high gen2 radio.

I was also kind of talked out of the VC when I was looking by the Sales Manager (no jokes). He said looking at a screen all day would I want to look at the digital dash. Anyway, he was wrong.

Seriously, I love my Q5, and not going to change for awhile, but next time will go Tech assuming it is an Audi

The above along with other “activations” by @DJAlix have given me:

- safety cameras
- alarm chirp on lock/unlock
- ability to lock car whilst engine running (useful for icy mornings)
- lane assist
- lap timer and oil temp and boost
- needle sweep
- ability to have 2 x phones paired at same time.
- high beam assist

Others I can’t think of. All for the cost of a drive down and small coding fee

Peter123,quick question. I have the tech pack in mine but have the ''flat bottom'' steering wheel, is the ''full round'' steering wheel heated like in some other Audi's?.

Mine is not heated. I do not know if that would be an option on the round one. I do not see why not.

Have a funny feeling they stopped heated steering wheel options awhile back, but stand to be corrected

...............arrrr right. I was looking at the ''new'' RS4 Avant a while back & noticed that the ''full round'' was a heated option.:thumbs up:

@Peter123 . Thanks for the offer. I have test drove a Tech Pack Q5 S line so I know what the additional features are. It is very impressive and I wanted to confirm it was not just a gimmick.

I have now gone back to Oxford Audi to add the Tech Pack to the specification. The delivery is scheduled for the end of February early March and is a 2019 car with folding mirrors as standard and tested to the new WLTP emissions regulations.

No heated steering wheel option available for the Q5 at present. I drove the Q5 and another vehicle with the flat steering wheel and decided again it.

Does the coding carried out by @DJAlix affect warranty?

Thanks for your help. I will be back with more questions, no doubt.

Nice one, and good shout adding
@DJAlix does a lot of work for dealers retrofitting for example options missed at factory, so no, he is fully authorised but best to speak directly to him for any more questions or queries. He does have a blog on this forum and is a site sponsor too.

1. For future reference, what part of the country is @DJAlix located in? North, South, East or West, or the midlands somewhere? Purchasers do not realise that Audi Dealers do not do any coding changes, but as stated by a previous post they have Auto electricians who do the work for them.

2. I ask because I have had has some work done on mine over the past few months and the guy who did it comes the Swindon area (just 30 miles from me). His name was given to me by the Audi dealership (Marshall''s Oxford) who employ him for items or coding that were missed off the original builds for cars. He does hardware fitting also. He is used by the Audi/VW dealerships, a lot in my area, including Oxford, Reading, Newbury and Swindon to name a few. He also does work for JLR dealerships. He has continuous work and does not need to advertise anywhere.

3. Recently he carried out the following to my Q5 S line 2.0 TFSI:
a. Rewired my Qvia AR790 front and rear dash cams (I removed from my 63 plate X3 xDrive 30d M Sport) (See picture in previous post).
b. Rewired my Cheetah 550 speed camera kit (again removed from my X3) (as above, see picture in previous post).
c. Fitted front and rear reversing cameras with a SMART interface that are considerably cheaper than audi's and does not need to be coded because the SMART interface plugs directly into the MMI. It uses the return arrow on the steering wheel for switching. Also the front camera (Kenwood CMOS-320) is 4 view switchable. Excellent addition. The SMART interface is made for 2017 onwards Audi A4/A5/A6/Q5/Q7 with complete instructions.
d. Coded in HBA.
e. Fitted the continental Aspherical Glass to my passenger door mirror giving me a wider field of view. I can see more whilst overtaking.

4. He also fitted parking beepers to my wife's little Suzuki Celerio shopping car.

Naturally everything is guaranteed. It is best to contact direct otherwise if arranged and done through a dealership it costs more money.

Can i ask, what was the reason for going TDI?

With all the uncertainty about taxation and emissions, the environmental damage, the fact that petrol models are getting very good mpg these days and the increased cost of purchasing a diesel car, I’d be interested to understand the rationale behind it.

Just out of interest...?

Sounds similar to @DJAlix who is based in North London, but also travels all over the place to dealers and clients. Even done remote coding of R8’s based in US.

Hi q5man,
I have a new Q5 3.0tdi Sline and would be interested to have the safety cameras on the Sat Nav. I subscribe to Pocketworldgps for my Garmin SatNav but would like to install them on my Q5 SatNav but I understand from Audi UK that Audi have now removed the option to send poi's to the car from a pc, not sure though whether that is a temporary omission.
Where do you get the data from for the safety cameras and how do you update them?

Hi mate, mine was done by @DJAlix as mentioned above. There are threads on here about updating satnav

Thanks Q5man. I did a search on here and found a thread but as I suspected I don't think you can currently add you own poi's or special destinations to the Audi MMI. Hopefully Audi will reinstate that feature in the new year.

Agree, with the change over of the Apps from the MMiConnect to MyAudi...all the functionality is not quite there/working on MyAudi...yet
I had the latest Cameras added by @DJAlix when he did the coding for me
