Opinions on Sportback in Ara Blue (chrome)?

Gonna give my dealer a call tomorrow and change the spec to Ara although I reckon it could be too late.

Ordered it back on 4th August, how long do you usually get before its too late to change spec?

Haven't even been contacted from the dealer since I ordered it.

There is no set time, just depends on when the car is committed to build then it cannot be changed.
A car is typically fully assembled in under a day.

I would have any colour in the A3/S3 rather than black, of the standard colour options Daytona suits Chrome the best, there was a Daytona sportback behind me for awhile yesterday morning it looked stunning especially with the matte aluminium roof rails again its all down personal taste but cancel that black one you have on order lol

I like the combo....the sunroof does look a tad better with the BE but IMO the benefits of having the s/r outweigh the difference in appearance.

+1. I've been to the dealer this morning and saw a Daytona PFL RS3 with matte aluminium trims. Looked stunning.

That's a pity, but just out of curiosity did they clarify that for you? If you have genuinely missed the deadline by only a week then your car has either already been built, or will be built in the next day or two, so you should now have an estimated delivery date.
The way it normally works at least with other manufacturers - an order is allocated a build slot, and prior to this(usually no more than a week) the parts are picked and then the order cannot be changed.
I'm sure you will be delighted with your car once it arrives. :)

Yeah he said its too late to change the spec, I could change the colour just not the options. So I just stuck with black, not too bothered in the end though cant wait to finally get it. Could be here next fabuary.

Surely chrome vs black is more obvious though compared to the condition of your paint work.

I'm still not convinced on this detailing stuff. If you had two identical cars, one with swirls and not great paint and another with excellent paint. Put them next to each other, both were cleaned. From a few metres distance is there really going to be any noticeable difference. Or do you have to go with a bright torch up close...

In theory the one with swirl marks would be a lot muted, as they're "blocking" the true paint colour. So the one without should shine and be a truer colour

You've a lot to learn or in your case won't learn you can spot a well detailed from more than a few metres away easily

I'd rather not though lol. Although I have a DA polisher, not going to spend hours making it look perfect. It annoys me to have stone chips and noticeable scratches, but everything else, whatever - its going to happen and I'd rather spend the time driving the car in all weather than trying to make it look good lol.

I am of the same mind....but luckily my work is only 8 miles from my house.
Of course the perfect situation would be that I am financially comfortable and have no need to work. :D
I would shoot the people who win the lottery then keep on working! :rage:

I am 50 miles a day since June = 6k miles in 5 months one of reasons l didn't buy a RS3 was because of my place of work can vary through the year.

8 miles to work now that's a Carlsberg commute lol

I know what you mean, and I quite often think that.. most of my 8 mile commute is traffic, taking a good 45 minutes at the moment... suppose I'm sat in a nice interior with a good sound system that I wouldn't have in a van.. but could have a cheaper car with a reasonable interior, better economy... but when I'm in the mood, the weather is right and I'm on the right roads with no traffic (this is 1% of the time lol), then I remember why I bought the S3!

I'm assuming the only thing I could do now is order a new S3 but I'll lose my 1k deposit from the order I have now?

Also have the 8 month wait time as that doesn't look like changing any time soon.

No you wouldn't....not if you are transferring to a new order and not asking for a refund. You present order according to the information you were given will not be built before the end of the year, so I don't understand why you were told you couldn't change what options the car will come with but you are allowed to change the colour. Doesn't make sense to me....
I thought you only wanted to change the colour to Ara anyway?

He basically told me that I could still change the colour but not the options. I tried changing the colour today but it got locked in this morning so I was too late.

He said it should be built late December and delivery could be in Febuary. So if I ordered a new one I'd lose the deposit on the current?

What you are being told about not being able to change anything on the order just doesn't make sense to me given that your car is 5 or 6 weeks away from being built.
It's not a long drawn out process either, because your car will be built from scratch in under one full day.
If you cancelled your order completely you would forfeit your deposit, but there should be no problem at all in transferring to a new order.

Ok, I think I'll give him another call. If I transfer to a new order I'm assuming I'll have to restart my 8 month wait for it to be delivered?

Depends you may get lucky and get another cancelled order slot that can still be altered to your spec.

Was looking back through this thread again and noticed this. Looks amazing mate, like new again. Not that I live anywhere near you or anything, but was wondering how much do you charge? Or was it a favour for a friend or something?
