I have an iPhone with the latest iOS, I’ve noticed that when people call me, the handset speaker rings instead of the car speakers. The phone call still comes up on the dash and I can answer it via the car etc, but the actually ringing comes out of the handset. If my handset is in silent mode the car speakers pick up the ringing, is this what others have found? I find it unusual that the phone rings on the handset and not in the car when not on silent.

Is the phone connected by Bluetooth or cable? My iPhone misbehaves sometimes if connected by cable. Usually works if unplugged and plugged back in again. Possibly dirty contacts on connector.

Are you using CarPlay or just the MMI?
Had a few annoying things with CarPlay with music and apps so stopped using all together.

Just via the Bluetooth and mmi, no cable. Do you find it rings on the mmi even when your phone is on loud (not silent mode)?

Mine rings on the MMI I’ve not changed any settings though just setup on bluetooth as I’ve got an old iPod setup in the armrest for music etc.

Mine rings on MMI with whatever ringtone is set on the iphone.

Ok thanks, must be my system having a moment :-/

Think I spoke to soon. Just updated to iOS 12.1 and MMI doesn’t ring.
All the settings is greyed out as well.

That’s quite an old thread. So what exactly is it suggesting, just turn up the volume whilst it is ringing? This won’t stop it ringing on the handset though will it?

Not sure but I reckon it will at least get the MMI ringing. Going out later so will see.

Got the MMI to ring based on the link above.
Basically when someone calls turn up the volume and this will stick.
Strange thing is both the phone and MMI rings at the same time. I’m sure it didn’t do that before.

Ok cool, yea seems strange that they both ring. At least you’ve found a half work around, cheers for that.

So just had someone ring me for the first time, and no joy. I tried turning the volume up whilst it was ringing on the centre console but this did nothing. The volume bar already showed about 50% but it definitely wasn’t ringing out of the speakers. All the mmi telephone settings are greyed out other than ‘mute telephone’. Is there anything else you were doing to get this to work? I’m running ios12.1. Thanks.

What version of MMI are you on?
Might be different to mine.

Very rarely do I receive calls when in my car so I had been wondering about it after reading this thread....
As luck would have it I received a call this afternoon on my way home from work, and just like you both ring at the same time.

Maybe it’s always been like that but we’ve never thought about it. Reason I think I’ve noticed is I’ve just got a new iPhone X and the speakers are insanely loud. Need to get mine ringing on the mmi though as it’s not, will check out what version I have tomorrow.

That’s could be it. I just changed to the Xs max and that’s stupidly loud in comparison to my old 6s plus. Will try it with my wife’s 6 and see if that rings with the MMI.

XS max nice! I moved up from a 6plus and always found it slightly too large, so I liked the idea of a bigger screen yet smaller handset so went with the X. I would have got the XS but for £300 less (discount through work) it was nowhere near worth the extra for what effectively is a slightly larger battery and newer processor chip. I was chuffed with the saving actually, love a bargain me ha.

Was good upgrade from the 6s plus. Just needed something big for my big hands. The x and small xs just didn’t feel substantial enough in my hands so went for the max. Think they are all silly money now, I’ve owned cars worth less than these phones.

Agreed on that, I can’t believe they’ve got me saying £700 for a phone is a bargain :weary:
