Guys, I've searched for threads relating to this but can't find any.

Can someone confirm if the light strip on the B&O speakers are supposed to be on permanently? Mines only comes on when the door is open and fades to off when the door is closed. I thought they were meant to stay on?

I've had a look at several settings but can't see any. My car is a my19.

Thank you in advance.

They can be adjusted along with cup holder lights etc in the MMI menu, not 100% where this minute but potentially in vehicle settings, then background lighting.

I have mine all turned down to almost minimum as is quite bright with foot wells etc .

Mine is Facelift, not sure if you are PFL or FL.

Thank for the reply mate. I have the FL my19 which was picked up yesterday and i found the settings which adjust the cup holder lights under background lighting but there is nothing for the speakers. There are three settings, one for the footwells and two others but nothing for the speakers which is annoying!

Hmm I thought was controlled in the same place, when I’m next in the car I’ll have a look if somebody else doesn’t beat me to it on here, lots of very helpful people on this forum.

2013 car and the speaker lights are illuminated all the time. From memory the brightness control controls all the interior lights as a group.

Quick thought is that they might be controlled by the small little control next to the fog lights, this controls instrument brightness etc.

Theres a couple of parts to this.
If the headlight switch is on auto and it’s daylight outside and headlights isn’t on then the b&o light strips lights up on entry and fades out.
If headlights are on then they stay lit.
If you turn the headlight on manually it will light up with the footwell lights and all the other interior lights like cup holder and MMI.
So it’s dependant on the headlight switch and if it’s on or off.

The speakers should dim with the door control. Only in the front unless they have decided to add it to the backs with the MY19 cars..........

Thank you all for all the information, very useful and is very much appreciated.

AIS3BE - I tried putting the headlight switch to on with no luck. When I went into car settings - Background Lighting - Door lights and moved it from one setting to another it does absolutely nothing. I suspect i have a strange fault somewhere and i know is only a light strip but still....I had the Audi Beam fitted by Audi so i don't know if they done something then or is a software issue.

Very annoying to be honest!

I have the same problem. Got my car since October, brand new, and the speakers lights were on all the time for a while, and then didn't want to stay on and fade off after I close the door. So I took the car back to the dealership, they kept the car the whole week and they did not find a solution to this problem. They sent a mail to the technical head office to have an answer. My concern is that it was working fine for 3 weeks... I'll let you know what solution they will bring to this.

Mines never came on from day one. The master technician had no idea what the issue was but thinks the MY19 update has something to do with it. If yours was working for 3 weeks I'd be concerned but it could be a software update that you were not aware of if you have mmi? It's really annoying as i know it would look lovely at night.... Bizarre that it fades to off when the door is closed. How did you get on??

My Audi dealership haven't contacted me back yet. I will get back to them early January. I really hope they will solve it...these ambient lights look so nice. I'll definitely post their definitive answer. Merry Christmas to you all

Hi. Just to close this off for you, I came across this thread as I've just got a MY19 S3 and the B&O lights faded on the doors - like yours, so I've been playing around to see if they can be set to "on" all the time. They can.

To make them stay on all the time (obviously also dependent on position of headlight switch) go into the MMI on the following path :

MENU//CAR//VEHICLE SETTINGS//BACKGROUND LIGHTS

You can adjust the brightness from there! :icon thumright:

I have the same problem and have the background lighting on max and even when headlights are on manual on, they don’t seem to stay on. They always fade out when door is closed. Mine is 2019 model and just picked it up 3 weeks ago. Any more ideas?

Are they all possibly wired wrong ? They seem to be behaving the same way as the puddle lights ? I have a MY17 car and they are on all the time and controlled with the backgroundnlighting dimmer in the MMI

Hi all,
I phoned my Audi dealership a couple weeks ago, tired of waiting for them to do so.
The answer I had was that they were still waiting for an answer from Audi France (I am French), and that they were going to phone them asap. And again, they are totally silent since.
For those catching up with the thread, my A3 was purchased brand new in october, is My19 and the LEDs was on all the time the first couple weeks, I still remember playing with the brightness of all the ambiant lights while driving, including the B&O ones. I am not a lunatic.

So, I just tried the dimmer on the door lights and it has no effect whatsoever. It doesn’t dim nor does it switch off. But the fronts and the footwell dim as you would expect. Sounds like this is a fault to me

Did you report the problem to your Audi dealer?
The more we are to report, the more chances we have Audi finally decides to solve it. By the way, the door setting has no effect whatsoever for me too, the door handle is not affected here.

Hi all,
Did you guys had any answer to this problem? I phoned my Audi dealer yesterday, 2 month after our last conversation, a technician was supposed to call me back cause they were busy, but they didn't... I am planning to write to Audi France to have a proper answer.
Let me know if your situation has evolved.

Hi,

Has anyone got a answer for this yet? got my audi A3 last month and this issue really bugs me.

Will be taking it down my local dealership when i get the chance but got a feeling it will lead to nothing.

Hi, I rang my local dealership 2 days ago to know about what they were actually doing to solve the problem. They told me they sent an inquiry to Audi in december, that went from level 1 to level 2 last march, meaning Audi didn't have a solution to the problem. They told me this problem was not enough reported so Audi was not providing any straight answer. So my local dealer is now looking for an A3 2019 with the b&o option to see how it works in it and maybe copy the codes if needed.
Please, do not miss talking to your local dealership, we are very few customers with this problem, if we do not report it, we'll have no chance to have it solved.

My lights have been on auto since day one and the B&O lights are on all the time, independent of the interior lighting - I also have the illuminated strips under the aluminum trim in the doors, this comes on when the headlights come on.

That was an optional extra, they stopped offering it not long after I got my car.

New meeting at my Audi Dealership. They have been contacted by Audi France, cause the technical case has been opened more than 6 months ago without results. This morning they did photos and videos of my car, showing the now useless door ambient light parameter, showing also that the led on the speaker switches off once the door is closed. Apparently this should be treated by some Audi ingeneers, probably in Germany. To be continued...

Hi Xavier.....any news from Audi France / Germany yet? I'm having no luck here in the UK! Thanks

I finally took my car in for its first service and raised this issue with the dealer. I'm in Dubai if it makes a difference. He checked several cars and told me that the 2017 model lights go on with the doors, like my 2019, but the 2018 stayed on all the time as we think they should! He said they tried to change several parameters on the coding, but couldn't change it...

Hi guys.
My Audi dealer finally got an answer from Germany. They seem to have an update for the mmi.
I will take my car to them on Monday to operate the update of the code.
If it finally work as intended, I will give you all the informations needed for you to work with your dealer.
After a year, it seems that the lights are gonna shine again on these doors at night...

Let us know how it goes! Mine does the same, open lights up when doors are opened...

Lol Hong Kong, and what's even more complicated is mine is PFL to FL but experiencing the same issue... If it's really MMI firmware then there won't be a fix for me...

Hi guys,

I just come back from Audi and the lights on the doors are bright again while driving, I can change the brightness in the ambient lights parameters (door lights).
I could also speak to the technician who followed the whole process of getting the lights back to life. He told me about how it has been difficult for him to find a solution. He told me he found a RS3 with the lights working fine, but Audi France told him that the comparaison was not right cause my car is a 1.0l, so there was no problem on my car. But this answer did not satisfied him so he decided to go further, opening a level 2 technical problem. Then the problem was sent from a place to another at Audi, to finally arrive in Germany, during more than a year. He had to reopen the case few weeks ago cause it was auto-archived in the intranet as a year had passed. He told me never a problem took him that long to be solved during his whole career.
Now, he told me he could not give me the svm code, but he was going to reply to Audi Germany, saying that the problem was solved but not isolated, that many customers around the world had the same problem. Audi is probably going to send an internal notice to their dealers around the world and add the solution to the list of technical problems in there database.
Sorry I can not help you more, it seems that the dealers have to do their job.

So if your car is still under warranty or not, do not give up, put pressure on your dealer, your car is not working the way it should. It took me over a year, it should be much quicker now, Audi in Germany is aware of the problem.

I wish I could have bring you an easy solution...

Did anyone get a final solution to this?

Realised mine go off with door closing which is crap and want to sort it.

Mine is a 2017 model S3 Saloon first reg in June 17.
