Was just about to say that, had to be stolen to order but this is going to add extra to our insurance premiums.
Had GTR’s for almost 20 years and even parked them on the road some nights and never a problem but these RS3’s seem to be getting taken every month.

Not sure if linked but my RS3 was debadged and I had not one single issue in the 2.5 years I had it. Same with the RS4, 9 months in and nowt. Down South though so perhaps still a Northern thing ...

Mine is also debadged for this very reason. My previous car was an A45 and that got stolen by way of masked guys snatching my wife's handbag when she was getting her nails done! So decided to go badge-less with the RS3. Down in Windsor so it does happen down south.

A minor payback of sorts.

Any pics of them debadged?

Really sorry to hear another one has gone :(

I think debadging must be a coincidence though, the kind of people going to these lengths are organised criminals and I would say are 99% of the time not going to be fooled by removing the badges!

The only people you will potentially fool are the opportunistic door handle triers, and lets face it most of these don't have a brain cell between them so probably wouldn't get very far anyway.

For me de-badging is completely pointless. The only people it'll fool are those who don't care about cars.

Your average ******* car thief or organised gang, won't suddenly walk past your RS3 thinking it's a 2.0 S-Line.

Cars like the RS3 should be kept in garages overnight. While I appreciate not everyone has a garage, for me at least, if I could only park on the driveway or on the street, I wouldn't buy a car like the RS3. It's just waiting to be stolen. I don't even like paring my S3 on the driveway (on the odd occasion) as it's a target too.

Things are going back to the 90's. You couldn't own anything with either a XR, RS, SRI, GTI badge without it getting stolen. Manufacturers beefed up security, and it seamed to work. Now with Keyless go, it feels like the manufacturers have decided to let the car thieves have free reign again. Sad thing is, is some cars now only come with keyless go. Might as well just leave the car unlocked and the keyless system in the armrest.

If keyless is an option you've got to be either a poser with no brain and a garage or a complete idiot to option it.

I doubt keyless played any part in the OP's loss.

Most RS3's I have seen unfortunately get stolen have been stolen WITH THE KEYS being stolen from the house, that means keyless or not the car has gone.

I understand keyless causes issues whereby people can mirror signals or boost them from your front door (unless you use a faraday) but these cars are prestigious and sought after and stolen to order with the keys, this great key vs keyless debate is completely irrelevant when people break into your house and threaten you with hammers...

You will have those along now saying why this is equally as dangerous if not more, I’d rather take the chance.

I love the idea of the Ghost, steering lock only goes on if leaving the car for extended periods of time because even with the keys it isn’t budging.

Honestly who gives a damn, car is insured, it gets nicked get another one, I leave mine at the station every day, and I disagree to most it just looks like yet another A3 with big wheels :)

What a complete load of tosh.....I must be either a poser or an idiot then as I'm looking for an RS Q3 atm and advanced key is right at the top of my wants list, it's also on my current S3.
All the thefts that I've read about have involved the keys and breaking into your house to get them, nothing to do with keyless

I'm assuming you have a company car scheme then? Not many people I know who pay for their own cars, and own insurance would ever have that attitude. But when it's someone else paying the bills, it's easy to think like that.

I have my opinion you have yours.

I think keyless is not just pointless is dam right stupid.
Worse in fact than stop start, another complete waste of a button and function.

Unless the stop/start button is on your steering wheel, where it looks awesome ;)

I have keyless (it came with the car). I love it. Car is parked away from house and keys are kept in a proper pouch at night so they can't use signal boosters to unlock the car. Ultimately though, if they want a car, they'll get it. Stories like above where they are willing to walk into people's houses in broad daylight with bats, shotguns and machetes...what can you do? These scum are usually high as a kite before they do things like this so they are buzzing and up for it.

Edit for the first part. Thought you were on about the button to start the car. Completely agree re the stop/start function...I turn it off immediately when I get into the car.

Since the change in the VED system, again, its kinda made stop/start redundant IMHO

Its the worst single thing on any new cars I've had TBH

On my old S4 I was, via the Carista app, able to make the SS switch have a memory function. So once its switched off the switch remembers the setting, permanently

Where as on my Cupra the Carista app switches SS off permanently

More on Carista for the 8V's here -

I meant the auto stop start, not the engine start button.
I think they are very cool.

Nope my cars, but it not worth the worry about it, enjoy the car, ensure you have insurance, GAP whatever in place... And as to the comment about only buying if you have a garage et el, madness, enjoy the car for what it is, dont worry about what either people think or if someone is going to steal it...

Just put an extra switch in to disable the start button if it won’t start it can’t go anywhere or disconnect the throttle pedal

To be honest I’d be more worried about parking dings than it being stolen. I’ve got GAP to cover my losses if the worst happened and my car got stolen. With the GAP I’d be about £6k better off because of the discount I got when I ordered too.

I agree a garage is good but if it’s an organised gang it’ll only deter them so much. My S3 is always on the driveway as the garage isn’t wide enough but touch wood no issues in 2 years, a large part is where you live.

And potentially wake up to a knife or baseball bat pointed at you I’d rather not personally. This is why I don’t see the point of Ghost etc being fitted.

Barnt Green, a very smart area south of Birmingham had 38 cars stolen over a weekend the other week. Nice areas are being targeted.

Yeah I appreciate that all areas have their problems to a certain extent, but I would’ve thought the closer to a larger city you are the more likely the crime, more gangs organised crime etc.
