Windscreen condensation

Morning all I'm after some advice regarding the above

Now I rarely get any condensation on the inside of the glass ( probably only 4-6 times in the 2 years I've had the car but even then it was sharp removed with the ac) but Last night after finishing work my windscreen was heavily condensed, back was also quite bad although not as bad.

Air con is always on. I generally always switch from windscreen to face before shutting off.

Checked mats and carpets all seem dry. Checked polling filter again bone dry. Havnt checked in the boot yet but I will before I leave for work today. Drain holes seem clear aswell

This is by far the worst I've had and we've had colder nights. It was 4-5degree outside but quite a dense night

Only thing I can think of at the moment is I cleaned the windows inside with auto finesse crystal glass cleaner and maybe I didn't remove any reside properly,
I always turn heaters/aircon to forward before turning the heating off

Door seals should be ok it's only a 2014 registered car and theree no extra wind noise that I've noticed. but I'm going to try some of the gummi pflege as I've read good things about it, plus after I left the car last night about half 11 after wiping the rear window with a window vac and tower. I went out about half 7 and they were clear. I'd have though if any seals were shot it would have returned ?? Outsides covered in dew and it was a very cold dense night

i shall give the screen a wiper over with a dry cloth and hope to remove any residue.

Sorry for the long post and hopfully someone can give me some other pointers as to what to check before seeking help from a garage.

Here's a couple pics to show the back window. The last pic is after going over with a towel. Looks like it's smearing. That's why I think residue. But could also be the cheap tea towel lol

There are very humid conditions around at the moment, if the inside of the car is dry, and the cc not set to recircuation then it is normal for this time of year.
Threads start up like this, or 'steam' coming out of exhausts at this point of the year because of the humidity..

Ok thanks bud. I've just never seen it as bad as it was. I think it was around 94% humidity last night. Hopfully it was just my mistake why it got so bad. Just noticed that the sun blind for the little one was slightly high so may have caused the seal not to seal correctly on the window.

Will moniter it and report back

Mine was quite bad last few days but my car is just parked up at the moment waiting for insurance to fix it. Annoying thing on mine is when it condeses up I can see where the suckers and factory labels are. To the point I can almost read what was on the labels. Tried alcohol cleaners and all sorts to clear it but still appears. Trying to avoid polishes in case it seals in those marks.
Anyway back on topic. Used to use these on my old cars and it works a treat in the winter months.

My front window used to condense pretty bad but was trapped moisture due to having RainX on the screen. I've since removed using glass polish and it's been a lot better, so could be your glass polish hasn't been removed and is trapping the moisture.

...............mine was the same & it's a very common problem thats been commented on, on various forums. Golf GTI mk5,6 & 7 all suffer it.

Had the humidity sensor replaced under warranty. And low and behold, it now heavily mists over. I've had the car just over a year and not once has it misted up. Audi change the sensor and my screen is just a blanket of white. Takes an age to clear it too. May just be the time of year but strange how it's now just started doing it. Will give it a week or so to see if it improves and see where we go from here.

I've found in the mornings mine does mist up, takes a while to demist even with heat on full and pointed at windows.

It must be the time of year as like i said mines never done it this bad. It was literally dripping down the windscreen took about 10 mile to fully clear. It's misted up a couple of times but normally clears very quickly.

I've wiped the screen down with a dry clean cloth hopfully it would have removed anything it could cling to. Humidity isn't as bad today but I shall see come 21:30 what it's like

After I'd got home last night and removed the water from the rear screen that was around 23:30 and I checked at 07:30 and the inside hadn't fogged up again so hopfully it happened because of me.

I'm actually thinking of swapping my 2.0 tdi for a 1.4 tsfi as I had a little bit of fun with one today and it seemed a quick car. I believe there about the same bhp 148 and same tax band

Any of yous own the 1.4 on here ?? If so what are they like

Mine used to mist up instantly when recirculate was clicked. Turn that off and it was fine. No reason for it. Car totally fine, I just put it down to a characteristic of my particular A3. never bothered me and never clicked that button again. As a first point I would clean the windows properly just before you drive it and then put the air con on to dry it all out. try the turning off the recirculate button, worth a try!

Pollen filter may be dry, but I've seen a few cases where a partially blocked pollen filter is the cause of the windows misting up. It's a cheap item, so I'd certainly try changing it.

The button which has a picture of a car (side profile) and an arrow rotating inside the car. Off the top of my head, on the air con panel, it's on the left side and second button in from the left.
It basically just keeps recycling the air in your car, and doesn't allow any air from outside in, useful if you're going through smoke say, or the cat in front is putting out nasty smoke.

There's not really a correct option, having it on means your air con won't be working as hard as the air is just being renewed, rather than cooled/heated constantly.
I don't have it on, unless there's (as I mentioned) bad smoke or equivalent up in front.

My car has been bad due to the weather of late, everything feels dry but I have had wet feet constantly. Took my drivers side mat out and kept in the warm and all is now good.

The filter is only 8 month old so shouldn't be blocked or anything but who knows. Worth a try I guess. Still looked Pritty new to be honest but will wack a new one in tomorrow

I never really use the air recirculate button, only when driving though a smokey area or when it's really cold to warm the inside up faster.

I shall take all the matts out and stick them over the radiators for a couple hours although to be honest I think we missed the worst of the rain this week we had a small amount on sat but I wasn't at work while it was raining so I don't think it will be this but I will give it ago


Also gonna buy a de humidifier and stick it on the parcel shelf for a couple weeks to hopfully help sort it out

I'm not really fussed about the rear window, what worries me is where will the water off the glass go ?? as we all know water falls so it can only go down to the bottom of the glass and god knows where that goes to on the saloons.


Finished work half 9. Front screen was no where near as bad as last night. Had some but I could actually see out of it and the screen fully cleared in a mile but the back was covered still maybe not as bad but the bottom of the rear screen is quite thick see pics

I've checked inside the boot and it's bone dry under so it's not a water problem inside there

I've some g6 perfect glass left. Think I will go over the glass with some of that as I used that before last winter and got nothing as bad as this.

Hopfully resolves it

stupid question but how much water should come from the air con drain ?? I know it prbz won't be as much as there is during the summer months. I've just been out this afternoon left aircon running for a little. Could see a few drops ready to fall from the plastic under the car. Went into smiths toys and come out maybe 20 minutes later and there was a small patch of water but not not a massive amount

Drove to Asda picked up a de humidifier for the car and drove home. Still no drop on the floor at home but can see there's a little dampness on the plastic.

Do you guys think this would be a ok amount and I should be able to rule out a blocked aircon drain plug ??

Humid levels are 60% according to my phone app

I know it's suppose to drip. But today there just didn't seem much. But I've just ran my car for 3-5 minutes and it was dripping like mad so I know th tube isn't blocked as I know if it does get blocked it finds it way inside. Just ruling it out that's all buddy.

I've bought a de humidyer. Hopfully help ease the problem. I'm washing the car tomorrow so will go over the windows with some g6 perfect glass incase it was the auto finesse crystal glass that's giving the moisture something to hold onto.
