Hi All,

Does anyone here have PLA (Auto Parking) on an A5/S5 and if so can you tell me when you have the parking sensor graphic on do you also get side graphic warnings?

I have retrofitted the PLA (with some help) and its working fine but I don't get any extra sensors showing on the graphic, on the Land Rover I used to but not sure if this is something thats not on the Audi or not.

Cheers, Andy

Actually, I think I answered my own question from a video, I think this is what I am missing

PLA

Although it could be that its not visible when using the camera overview, I will have to go check

Have a look at this vid it shows the side sensors on MMI

Yeah, the side sensors work perfectly for parking, they just don't show on the graphic, I thought it might of been the cameras affecting the display but I don't get it on the graphic either, just some coding missing :)

@rasA4 I normally use VCDS but Dave's borrowed my cable to try and sort his seats out, so on this occasion, yes, it was OBD11 and it was a missing adaption setting

Dave has just had a crash course in VCDS but had to have help from the master :)
Thanks for all your help tonight, and i think obdeleven is more my level :):):)

Oh come on, you found it and figured it out. I just agreed :icon thumright:

:readit: Note to self, next time I add something do more research :redface new:

@RJ-8V Its waiting for a new calibration file from VCP, it was working till we pushed a default A5 calibration at it and then it, well, broke. Complaining about no basic settings or calibration at present :sob:

For anyone considering it though, PLA and 360 Camera are AWESOME!!!!!

Check VCP file manager, they released it :) and no basic setting means often calibration by the dealership...

I think that's probably the one which broke mine last week! They asked for a bit more time today in fixing a new file, unless that's a new file from today?

The file we tried to load is the factory standard calibration rather than custom, so no dealer trip needed.

No probably the same file

That file needs a good thrashing, my Side Assist was fine before that file abused it!

How's you anyway mate? Retrofitted anything interesting recently? We had fun with the 360 camera when we realised we had to cut two sections of the front grille out for the camera, made Andy somewhat nervous

I never updated my side assist as it was working directly (like yours was). I know that updating and parametrising side assist always gives problems.

I'm thinking about a front camera (module a5) retrofit but then i need a new windshield, steering handles etc. Maybe something for the future.

I thought about PLA but i screwed a fixing bolt of the rear bumper to tight, now it won't get loose anymore :(

So whats left...electric seats is a nice option but it has to be the facelift s-line seats. Those are hard to find with heated seats etc

Shame as I have a full set of S line alcantara/ leather, fully electric and heated but A5 coupe shame as they are like new.

Might be a squeeze to get the in an A3 Dave :)

On the A5 the extra sensors for the PLA sit pretty much on the wheel arches, it would be a squeeze but I think you can get under the bumper / wheel arch and drill a small pilot hole from the back of the bumper on the cross hair which shows where it goes, you can then drill the bigger hole from the front to allow the bolt of the punch tool to go through, then punch the hole, clean the rear and stick it in place

The only other project I have considered is ACC, will be a PITA the sort the ABS pump though

@RJ-8V As you have ACC don't you already have the front camera?

No, ACC on the 8V works with one radar in the center of the grill. Only the C7/4G uses two radars AND a camera.

Thats a shame mate, ours uses the two radars and the front camera. Was looking to add it to mine till I realised I would need to change the ABS Pump and the seat belt pre tensioners at least

Abs pump? Where did you read that? It should not be neccessary.

Multiple sources unfortunately, extra sensors needed on the ABS on ours. Ross-Tech Forums, ETKA and a direct chat with HazzyDayz (one of the directors added it to his A5 as a project for something they could sell) confirmed it.

Still not totally off the radar, a hell of a lot more expensive if I do continue with it though, already got the radars and stalks, the replacement air vent grilles are expensive too.

Hmm thats a bummer.

If anyone watching this does have PLA how sensitive are your side sensors? Mine go nuts when reversing around a corner or anything slightly fast, work fine when slow or driving through a McD's drive through etc though.

Its really annoying and very distracting when reversing, makes you think your about to hit something. Wondering if its to do with parameterisation or something....

Hello Andy,

was wondering if you can share the VCDS coding to activate the additional graphic on MMI of the PLA sensors :)
thanks!

Hello Andy,

was wondering if you can share the VCDS coding to activate the additional graphic on MMI of the PLA sensors :)
thanks!

I found it in VCDS :)

Long Coding [09] Byte 38, Bit 0=0 & Bit 1=1 -> Or choose from the drag menu "OPS 360 Installed" ...Use at your own risk

After finishing retrofitting the 4 sensors and did the coding, I am running with a couple of concerns/issues:

1- the shop have mistakenly installed the front bracket upwards, which means the PLA sensor plug is pointing towards up rather than from the inner side of the bumper..
Does the orientation of the sensor bracket make a difference for the object detection ? The shop said it's ultrasonic, and the orientation of the bracket isnt doesnt play a role in object detection. anyone can confirm ?

2- Most of the time the Park Assist works like a charm in indoor parkings, but when i attempt to use park assist for parallel park on the street, it always ends halfway because it is detecting objects that dont exists from the side where there is no sidewalk! I am convinced it is the paint markings on the street. Does it happen with anyone who retrofitted Park assist ?

Any reasons why the side sensors go crazy and becomes red on the graphic on the side of the street where there is no side walk ?

thank you for your help!
