Hi All,

I'm just wondering if there are any old wife's tails on how to clean chrome exhaust tips? Mine are have layer of black stuff followed by a layer of dirt.

I quite fancy trying to make them silver again!

Car

Autosol. Apply with a sponge. Any leftover marks, apply with a white scourer (white!, not green).

I have heard of people cleaning the inside with a toilet brush, which made me laugh.

I wouldn't personally use a scourer as surely this would scratch and cause problems down the line.

The tips on my S3 became pitted within the first year and I was always cleaning them, very disappointing, I hope the S4 tips hold up better.

Autosol is good with said elbow grease and then I apply a protective coating after each clean to create a barrier for easy cleaning next time round.

Another vote for autosol. You would just need a cloth for application and wiping down as the stuff is brilliant

Hitting them with fallout remover first greatly helps then makes the autosol polish much easier

Autosol very good product, I use microfibre cloths

Jetwash - Fallout remover - Jetwash - Shampoo and thoroughly clean with Microfiber Mitt - Autosol Polish with Applicator pad - Apply a protection if you can.. (Cermaic Coating in my case) makes its so much easier to clean in the future and to maintain.

Thanks for the tips! I'll maybe add a picture once it's clean.

I take it @Splodgeit is still trying to clean it as we haven’t seen a picture. He did say maybe he’ll add a picture though

Still removing those needles from that Christmas tree I reckon :confounded:

Wonder how his tips are holding up to and the dreaded corrosion?

If I remember correctly, the tips on the S3 are removable. S4 tips, which are cheap chrome on cheap steel, are welded top & bottom to the s/steel pipe.
If you go back there have been threads on this subject. Good luck.
Actually, I can't remember any other country/region with this problem, and Oz certainly has rust.

Trivia: Rust is the Aussie slang for cancer.

Rust? I would have thought more Dust.

Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner did the trick on mines.
Sprayed it on and left it to soak for few minutes. Sprayed another layer and gave it a good scrub.
Polished out and they were shiny again

Gtechniq metal polish and a decent microfibre, came up like new.

Personally I use autosol and a polishing cone from fleabay on a battery drill. Panel wipe it clean then I coated it with KKD R-evolve which I had done my wheels with.(can be any coating ie. g techniq c5, c quartz, Gyeon etc)
All the exhaust needs is a quick clean with soap same as the wheels for the next year
