SQ5 Collecting new SQ5 TSFI on Sunday - petrol advice please

Hi all, I'm collecting my new SQ5 TSFI on Sunday, and I'll post photos once I've had it detailed, ceramic coated and the front protected.

May I ask what, if any, of the 'superior' petrol brands people use please? I've read quite a lot about people saying you must use Shell V-Power, but is there really that much benefit in doing so, or are there better options?

Shell V Power is very good, but a lot on here go with Tesco Momentum 99. I have used both and haven't noticed any difference in performance or fuel economy between the two.

I have been consistently using Shell V Power, which is giving me somewhere in the region of 30 mpg long term average.

I was forced to use some French Supermarket Fuel a while back that, at 99 RON, gave me s surprising jump up in mpg.

Given that, where i live, V Power is now £1.44 a litre, I might be tempted to try some regular fuel for comparison.

I have used the 95 Ron and you do see a difference so I have stuck with Tescos 99. My average is now around 22mpg after 6000 miles and best I had was around 70 miles @ 35 mpg with totally clear roads 3am in the morning, can usually get 32/33 on a normal motorway run but that's keeping it under 75mph...

I'll give it a go next time i see one - we don't have one near me, only a Salisbury petrol station.

I generally drive the motorways at 74mph. There are too many averaging cameras and then just plain old speed cameras around the M25 and M3 for me to speed.

Glad other people are getting low mpg...

For sure Hamilton would prefer Shell after last weekends Spa Grand Prix...

And I/we're seriously considering an SQ5 TFSi with air suspension: the recent Stoke Audi event, thank you Sandra, allowed me/us to back-to-back over known roads with other Audi 'RS' machines and for sure the 2018 TFSi SQ5 impressed me/us most.

Anyway, we've ALWAYS feed our RS3, TT, and twin-charge A1 on Shell V-power; I've seen how Shell V-power protects the internal 'combustion' side of an Audi engine and I much prefer that to any mpg advantage it may or may not have over supermarket products. That said, Texaco Momentum is good, too; I/we just prefer Shell products - as does Hamilton, now...

Who knows...

Still enjoying the RS3, TT ragtop, and twin-charge A1 here. Each is superb doing its own thing. And each go in the garage and can be easily worked on; losing that function/facility would be like chopping off an arm or leg!!!

Which to swap for a 2018 SQ5 TFSI is the question, or why not just add? No pockets in shrouds and that's for sure; the big 'C' makes one look at Audi life, and life in general differently to what one would have 20-years previously....

At least RS3copilot is now thinking more 2018 SQ5 TFSI than S8, but man how I love that 4.2 twin-turbo V8...

But you're right, a 'slightly used' SQ5 is in view, even a diesel variant; after all, I've been attached to a diesel engine in one application or another for most of my (now past ) working life...

Funny enough, I drove the diesel SQ5 on an Audi experience day a few years back, and whilst the RS3 was wild, both wife and I preferred the SQ5 all round. Don't get me wrong, would LOVE an RS3, but SQ5 was very very capable all round, especially when you need to add teenagers to the mix.

Hi it was a brand new one, registered on 1st of September 2018, I think I got lucky as there were a few in the pipeline that fit (almost) my required spec.

I use any of the higher octane fuels - Sainsbury is nearest, Tesco is on way to motorway, it’s V Power when I visit my Mum. Also averaging about 29mpg long term average over 13700 miles - and also cruise motorways at 75ish as I like my licence clean...

@isleaiw Do you find using higher octane fuels provides better MPG? And does that out weigh the additional, albeit pence, cost. The additional performance is a given. Based on this very scientific research, I would opt for Shell v Power. Possibly

Cant say I have - think too many other variables like traffic, time of day, temp, my mood (!) have more of an influence. I think I can spot the difference between Premium and Standard octane but beyond that, havent been able to spot it. Highest ever recorded mpg came when I was using Sainsbury's but traffic light, temp ok, and me not in a hurry and chilled after a holiday!

Congratulations, not many that stick with the stock 20’s (like I did too). Looking sharp, though keeping a dark car clean and swirl free is a challenge I didn’t take up choosing Daytona!

I'm hoping the front end being PPF'd and the whole car being Gtechniq total surface protected will keep the swirling to a minimum.

It will certainly help, as long as you wash/dry really carefully, oh and don’t let Audi or anyone else wash it for you...unless a pro of course

Ha. Collected at Reep. Nice one Expensive but brilliant detailing. Ummmm. Fuel....depends on your location and how close the best fuel is. It involves math.

For eg, is it worth driving 10 miles out your way to get higher octane fuel at 5p vs stopping at a more expensive garage on your way to work? Try to be a bit dynamic like someone else has already said. If you're in the area, use the best there. Tesco 99 is great value. She'll V power better at cleaning. What does it say in the manual? I used Shell fuel save on my B9 S4 towards the end because I begrudged lots of things haha. Wouldn't use it on my RS4 because if the direct injection but I found it to be just fine. Honestly. Great mpg. 40+ driving chilled. But obviously the expensive stuff is better for the engine etc.

I use V Power in my 2018 SQ5, after using it for years in my RS3, S3 & Golf GTI's etc. Inside the fuell filler cap flap it just states to use a preminum 95 octane so is 99 ron really nessary ?. After all if that is what Audi have put inside the filler cap flap?.

Couple of tankful's of Shell ''regular'' 95 in mine & to be honest not noticed any difference?. Audi list premium 95 on the tank flap so going to try it for a bit.

I'm sticking with the premium brand 95 ron. Mostley Shell as it's closest to me but have used BP & Esso & as before not really noticed any great change after using Shell Vpower. Seem to be averaging around 32 mpg at the moment so for a V6 petrol i can live with that.
