Don't really use CarPlay on my 2018 B9 but on the odd occasion I've tried it, it worked fine with my iPhone X running iOS 11.

However after I updated my iPhone X to iOS 12 yesterday thought I would fire up CarPlay again to see how Google Maps looks. But I cannot seem to connect my iphone. I've got Siri enabled and when I go to the CarPlay menu on my iphone, the 'available cars' bar just spins and spins.... Anyone else experiencing the same? If not, I might do a full erase and reset on my iphone to see if that cures it.

Cheers

I tried it first thing this morning and had no issues with CarPlay on iOS12.

One thing to note is that although Google Earth and Waze have now been enabled for use, the apps haven't been updated to make use of it. So they don't appear on CarPlay yet anyway... So you're not missing out on anything. Haha.

Ok got it working in the end, it seems I had disabled CarPlay in the MMI 'Connection Manager' previously.

There was a iOS 'Google Maps' app update today which enables it in Carplay in iOS 12 so got that working, no problems. I was hoping you could also switch on the satellite imagery in google maps (like you can do on the smartphone app itself) but no, its only standard mapping. I think i will stick to the standard Audi Navigation :)

If you close it down and have the iPhone screen on the mmi it will also continue to warn you about speed cameras in a notification pop up
I’ve found it very accurate.

You can actually overlay the satellite imagery, just rotate your MMI dial to bring up the menu bar at the top while you're using it and there's a settings (cog) icon that you can go into and activate it there. :)

Tried enabling CarPlay again yesterday to try out Google Maps.

Don't bother. The interface is terrible. Might work on a touch-screen, but not with a rotary controller.

And, if you've got Virtual Cockpit, it won't let you show it on there (I tend to have the main screen on a zoomed-out view and the VC on a zoomed-in view) - you just get a compass. And it still blocks you from making calls via VC as well, and still doesn't show album art.

So after about 2 minutes I disabled it again. Carplay in an Audi is pointless IMHO.

So mine doesn’t work with my new iPhone XS Max with iOS12. Basically looks like it’s connected but shows a black screen?! Everything else works fine with the MMI, so very weird

I second this. It just doesn’t work with the Audi controls/interface. The only thing I hate on the Audi Sat Nav is the voice! Is there a way to change it?

Waze is now available on CarPlay. Tested it out today and thought it was pretty good, can’t wait for my BMW to arrive so I can use it wirelessly instead of having to plug in every time

Carplay never worked for me in the S4.... just crashes approx 30 seconds after it starts... Given up.

I’ve used CarPlay for ages. Works perfectly . Especially the voice command for making calls or sending texts... it’s strange there is such a variance between connection / Interop on something that should be pretty straight forward.

Mine works randomly about 50% of the time. When it won't work, usually needs both the phone and MMI to be rebooted to get things going. I only use it for listening to podcasts though, it gets unplugged the rest of the time so I can use the better telephone functionality via MMI. Am on iOS12

CarPlay is one of the best things about my A4. Podcast, Spotify and now google maps!

The audi mapping isn’t as good as google maps and I find the system plans the most bizzare routes sometimes. There’s a huge A road leading 90% of the way to your destination, but audi will plan your route via B roads because technically it is 0.1 miles less distance. Madness. Yes you can ask for multiple routes and choose one but even then it’s harder work than just hitting “go” and knowing you probably have a sensible route in.

Plus... for those of us god foresaken non tech pack people who don’t get map updates, there is NO way I’m paying audi £400 for maps when the google maps platform is so good. Even satellite overlay now. And the auto zoom is perfectly fine for most of the time.

Can’t see me ever going back to a car without CarPlay now.
