Happy days. Did they offer anything else for the hassle?
Lets hope it is permanent...WooHoo it appears it’s been fixed, I’ve driven from Newcastle to Oxford with the radio turned off the whole way.
1. The sound didn’t come on at all.
2. Zero rattles from the dash.

Yup, text book answer. So they went down the cheapest route to start and probably spent a small fortune before finally biting the bullet and replacing the box, go figure. The gearbox.
They said it's the 1st one that's been replaced due to internal issues, I'm not sure how true that is, I suspect it's ******** though.
It's great news they have got it sorted for you. Have you checked the VIN number still matches your V5C?!

Pleased it's sorted for you mate and hopefully trouble free from now on.
But the dealers only make 50% of the labour charge and surely Audi would want to see faulty items. A friend of mine took his 17 plate Ateca to a dealer for a headlight fault (beam kept dropping), but because they could not replicate the fault (via diagnostic either), the dealer couldn't help because Seat refused to replace it as the item was not indicting as faulty.Usual warranty way of doing things, when will they learn, but the dealers make good money out of it I suppose. I used to run a VX Cav GSI 2000 16V 4X4 - a 1991 car, when it was still in warranty it had an ABS failure:- VISIT 1 - replaced N/S/F sensor, 100 yards later fault returned! VISIT 2 - replaced O/S/F sensor, 100 yards later fault returned and the senior tech had checked it this time on a road test! VISIT 3 was booked but I scoped the sensor signals at the ABS controller which indicated that while it was an issue with the N/S/F input, that input channel was dead inside the controller, at that visit they ignored me and replaced both rear sensors, 100 yards later fault returned. VISIT 4 still ignoring what I was telling them, all four sensors were replaced, 100 yards later fault returned, I demanded to face to face the service manager, eventually they agreed to order in a new ABS controller. VISIT 5 when it arrived I stayed with the car as it was only a 5 minute swop over - problem solved! Luckily I worked within walking distance to that dealership, 2 years later when the next sensor failed - they had binned the plastic sleeves from the original ABS sensors so dissimilar metal corrosion(forged steel and aluminium alloy) was quickly killing the new sensors causing the cans to implode into the coil windings - I was told by a Bosch diagnostics place that that car did not have a smart version of an ABS controller, so all this talk about the original dealership's equipment telling them exactly what was faulty was rubbish, they were guessing and guessing badly!
As you might remember mine had a parking brake solenoid failure within the first 1500 miles. Ok not a new gearbox but still an issue that totally immobilised the car.The gearbox.
