I am thinking of changing my 2013 S3 8V so yesterday I decided to visit my local Audi dealer to get an offer.

He told me A3/S3/RS3 production has stopped for many configurations as all of you know, but he brought me some bad news regarding Audi S models.

S4 and S5 petrol engines will be discontinued, so the next S4 and S5 will go with a diesel engine. a diesel engine!!! in this case with a 3.0 TDI (Biturbo I think) 347bhp more or less.

And I think it would be the same for the S6 and S7. Only RS models will go with petrol engine.

The good news (for me) is that the S3 will keep its petrol engine, but with a power decrease to meet the new WLTP emission regulation (Euro6). The S3 MY19 will go with the same 2.0TFSI (221 instead of 228kW).

He also said that there is a rumor regarding a new facelift for the A3 in 2019. Considering that the new A1 and Q3 will go with multiple touch screens, the A3 will be behind in technology terms. What do you think?

So that's all from my knowledge for the moment. Any new information I get it I will posted here.

Thanks! :)

That clearly isn’t true mate Audi are removing the Diesel engines across many of their lineups. The S4/5/6/7 I guarantee will remain petrol.

David, I think your "dealer" has a drug problem......diesel is dead, except for commercial vehicles....dieselgate insured their demise in VAG cars

What dealer did you go to lol he's so full of.. Someone should let Winkelmann knows about the S4/5/6/7 diesel.. And there won't be anymore "facelift" for A3, it's always a one off mid life facelift for car manufacturers, the next change (besides minor option changes) would be the next gen which should due out 2020...

Even for rumours those are bizzare.... replacing petrol with diesels.... after dieselgate.. hm yeah.

They show me a Excel from Germany with all models... and I saw the same file two weeks ago in another dealer...

I know they’re bringing an sq5 diesel back as the petrol version has killed the sales since the new Mark. Running side by side though, not to replace. Not heard anything about the s4/5 etc.

Doesn't sound completely unbelievable, but it is probably unlikely. I've heard that other manufacturers are stuggling to meet the CO2 requirements of the WLTP and real-world emissions testing.

The manufacturers have to hit an average CO2 per vehicle. The fines for going over CO2 emissions are large, and will rise exponentially over the next few years. Either manufacturers cut CO2, or they will have to only produce limited numbers of higher CO2 models. As tiny engine, bottom of the range models have very little profit in them, and S models are very good for VW's wallet, it wouldn't surprise me if they are looking for any way to be able to increase sales of S models.

New model A3 due 2019 isn't it?

An Audi dealer sales rep would not be top of my list for sensible or reliable information regarding Audi long term brand strategy. If the S4 and S5 end up being diesel variants only, I will buy the biggest hat I can find, and then eat it - with lots of hot sauce.

I’ve currently got another FL S3 on order and the only changes I’m aware of is the slight drop in power and I might be getting some black 19s rather than the current BE alloys.

One thing the sales man said to me is that he doubts there will be a drop in 0-60 time, he’s got an order in for TTS and the power is also dropping but it’s quicker by 0.01secs to 60?! I very much doubt I’ll notice any difference in my current FL S3 compared to the new one, I just wanted some upgrades on a car i already love, I can’t seem to get interested in anything else on the market.

I ordered on the 13th Aug and am yet to get a BW confirmed, all ive had is “just spoke to Audi UK and they said it should get a BW 45” bit wishywashy to say the least. I work in the car manufacturing industry (brake pads, we make some MQB and PQ pads to name a couple) and this slow down is apparent in our forecasts, crazy times.

Suppose the upside is I get longer to decide if I want virtual cockpit

Don't get one without the technology package... . Av had 2 S3's one with analogue dials and now with the virtual Cockpit.... It really brings the interior bang up to date

Totally agree ... you’ve got to get the virtual cockpit - it’s the biggest update on the facelift imo and the car may feel very dated without it.

I'm not so sure about the virtual cockpit. We've got a tt with it and had a Tiguan r line with the vw version and I didn't think it was worth the cost with no residual value. I'd pay £500 for it but anymore and it wasn't worth it. After 2 weeks in my new s3 I have to say its lovely to have some proper nice quality needles again. My only annoyance is I can't get the info I want on the single screen. There is the room but the standard presets don't contain the readings I want. After using CarPlay with a touch screen I have to say it works beautifully in the s3 without that benefit. Quite surprised!!

Yeah I’m having trouble justifying the £1.3k price tag and I think it will be without the phone box thingy (discontinued my19?) so I’d be getting less for the money ? Looks ace though and will make it a touch more modern in the cabin, agreed.

I do wonder whether they will re-price the options in Q4 this year? Chance it and wait, if my car is mid build and the option gets slightly cheaper cancel order and re-order? No idea what these new alloys look like yet :0/

I think I need to have a look at the VC in the flesh lol

Personally I test drove a S3 with VC and thought it was cool but not useful to me, as I'd need the centre MMI screen for Android auto. So seems expensive for a digital screen. Imho

The virtual Cockpit/technology package will add more desirability and residual value if you sell it again l think it's worth every penny considering l paid £1795 for the technology package on my previous 2015 S3 with analogue dials

I agree the virtual cockpit will undoubtedly add more desirability(wish I had it), but wonder it will justify a price premium over an otherwise identical used model.
Traditionally the odd option or two do not increase used prices, but do make the model more likely to sell when the buyer has a choice.
Naturally a fully loaded car will command a premium, but a fraction in relation to the original cost of specifying those options.

It's down to money at the end of the day mate, l am sure you would have specced it if you didn't like changing cars as often lol l had 18 months to think about spec etc etc and initially l wasn't wanting the VC but it is what it is

Unless I kept the car until it was worth sub 15k, I’d never try selling a high value car privately so all I’d be going off is webuyanycars value and options don’t add a penny. Although s3’s do seem to be pretty desirable second hand and this car is feeling like a more than 2 year keeper so you never know. I think if I’d never had vc I’d have been more tempted but there is so little customisation I just end up with normal dials and the date and time in the centre. Audi’s execution is definately Better than vw’s but then it’s far more useful on the tt because it’s the only screen whereas I used the centre screen on the Vw

I sold my last S3 privately could have sold it ten times over because of its spec and l got way more than WBAC quoted and analogue dials in the A3 look classic at best but still ancient looking, car jumping every 2 year is way more expensive than paying for the virtual Cockpit lol

Usually do 2 year leases so 2 years is pretty normal for me. Had to buy the s3 as leasing deals are very rare on these and lead times massive because of wltp testing. Also I found a car I really wanted so thought I’d treat myself.

There would have been something seriously wrong if you couldn't sell privately for way more than WBAC offer. I like to check them now and again for the curiosity factor and some of the prices they have quoted for my cars are completely ridiculous. I would need to be backed into a corner and desperate for the money to accept it. :astonished:

If you've got the money and it makes you happy then I say go for it. :D
I have been changing at less than 2 years since I bought only my second ever brand new car in September 2012(previous one was June 1989) - I'm currently on my 5th brand new car all owned outright since then.
I would have loved Virtual Cockpit but didn't get it for 2 very important reasons.
1. My S3 was a stock unregistered car and waiting for a factory order would have meant spending considerably more money what with increased purchase price and decreased trade in....plus I didn't want to wait at least a couple of months.
2. It would have taken me well over the threshold for increased tax of £450 which I just couldn't stomach on principle.....even if I paid it only once.

I know your stance on that second point jassy. :D

P.S. Nobody needs to point out the logic in it actually costing me far more than the £310 increase in road tax by changing my cars so frequently. I already know this. :relaxed:

That’s the plan at the moment :icon thumright:

Still very happy with my RS and would sooner wait for a new platform S3 than change now into what would be a very similar car albeit facelift (& more money of course).

So yeah ... enjoy the RS and pay it off in full too and then see what the new S3 has to offer ... only other cars I would consider are new Merc A43 or A45 AMG or Golf GTI / R when they come out ... but in all honesty I think I will wait it out for the next S3 as I like Audi so much.

VC, not for me. I am one of the lonely that prefers the analogue look over a digital/graphics look. The VC has its merits...map display, but apart from that it looks cold and lacks the depth and warmth that analogue gives. I will take the looks etc. of an anlogue watch, even better if it has a mechanical movement, over any Apple abomination regardless of the features it offers.
One other bonus over VC it still looks good with the ignition off.

VC defo has the cool factor, I’m liking having it. TBF though I’ve probably had more ‘Oo that’s cool’ comments from the audi ring led floor lighting than I have the VC lol, which is slightly depressing ha. All things considered though, I’d trade me VC for my advanced key back which I had on my A3, I’m still really missing it, just cannot be doing with this key business. It’s the only part of my S3 which tbh actually sucks because it’s a backward step from my A3.
