Hey Guys and Gals

I was looking into doing some internal lighting upgrades and having a look on the repair manual for the A3. Noticed it mentioned dashboard lighting, from what I gather its referring to the Aluminium inlays on the dash. Although I've never seen a lighting option for this. Has anyone else? because id be very interested.

I have the extended LED on a FL A3 , it does not include the dash and door inlay lighting or exterior door handles.

I have a saved search on eBay and have yet to see a set come up. I guess its either a fortune to order a set, though I couldn't figure out the parts numbers from the online parts catalogue and couldn't find what part of the door handle you needed to replace.

Im guessing it you got the parts it would be a matter of wiring them in with the current ambient lighting.....

It’s a weird one, maybe it never went into final production or it’s just for selected markets.

I'm sure it could be done as it looks like the same set up as the Q2 (similar dash as A3).

I still can't find any reference to the ones in the actual dashboard, where as the door ones (Alu race illuminated inlays) have been well documented. I'm interested in the dashboard ones more than anything.

As far as I understand the trim has a light pipe busily in with and led which attaches to the end ....

They are called Ali carbon according to that post !

I have bought some of this to do the dash trim and rear B&O speaker grills

https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot...&orderId=94459372444936&productId=32810627166

and use these as the LEDs

and a set of the Alu-sline trim for the dash with out and will hopefully get to the bottom of it !

This is also interesting it id Glass optic trim but it looks like it has a channel or clip for the light fiber

Personally I have never seen the dash ones even on FL with door inlays... Don't think the dash ever make it into production or at least we'll see some pics online. I just got the OEM door ones right after I got the one from China, if anyone wants the China set, it's GBP95 shipped including PayPal fees.. The quality is pretty good and it's for sedan or SB, brand new, never installed.

This is the OEM set that I just picked up, will be trimming the carbon inlay cover I did a while back and fit them..

This is the China set.. Comes with splitter to hook up to the door handle light connector, so pretty much plug n play..

And while we're at it, the latest "innovation"... They hacked the B9/4M 21 colors ambient lighting menu for 8V, it WILL have the 3 dash inlays and door inlays, cup holder, footwell as well as door storage.. 21 colors switchable from MMI...

In A3-Alu S-line Code INK I believe (This is what I have bought)

8V4867419L INK - Front left door (Illuminated)

8V4867420L INK - Right Front Door (Illuminated)

8V4867409L INK - Rear Left Door (Illuminated)

8V4867410L INK - Rear Right Door (Illuminated)

From an ebay listing though in the picture they have different Numbers

Who's "they" ?

Mine's standard brushed aluminum, part numbers 8V4867409L 03S, 8V4867410L 03S, 8V4867419L 01S, 8V4867420L 01S...

"They" as in china vendors, it's under development and will be out in a week or so.

I’m curious why do folk need their cars lit up like a Christmas tree? I find the foot wells, cup holder, door handles and b&o too much already.
My wife has the multi coloured ambient lighting in her car and it gets set a colour and not changed in 2 years.
However I do miss the led light up external door handles I had in the A6. Great in the dark.

I enjoy electronics, I enjoy cars, I work doing Film and TV lighting for a living so have an eye for it being nice (the fact that the rear B&O is not lit drives me insane !) and most importantly way car is still under warranty so so no performance or suspension stuff yet (even if i could find them for an e-tron).

The external door handles are another interesting one as they are mentioned in a brochure somewhere but i have never seen them in the flesh.....
Each to their own really =)

Rear b&o not lighting up annoys my ocd even though there’s too many lights already. If you gonna do it why don’t they make it the same as fronts.

Ive been looking at the door handles and they look and feels exactly the same as the ones in the A6. Wonder if I could make A6 handles fit.

Are they the same size there is a fair chance these things are standard parts across multiple models....

Not got an A6 to measure it but they feel the same size and shape.
Need to look into it but it’s not gonna be cheap. Paint and parts.

Will look into it when I find some funds
Ara blue can’t be cheap colour to match

Done! OEM ambient trim + carbon fiber cover.. Had to tap them to the door handle light wires, coz for whatever reason, pin 8 for ambient lighting is present on the front controller, but pin 3 is missing for the rear controller, but oh well, they're both set to max brightness anyway lol

Nice, as far as I understand you need to enable pin 3 on the rear door modules for the ambient lighting which is VCDS Voodoo, I have asked @DJAlix about this and the next time I see him this is one of the things on the list for him to do.

Were yours originally aluminium before you added the carbon ?

I have nearly got all the parts I need just received my light fibre to do the rear B&O lighting, and am trying to figure out the best way to add it to the dash trim, it is designed in such a way it could be just squashed behind it and sit underneath, but I wonder If could mill a 3mm grove into the trim to try and replicate what the factory install would of been like if it ever was manufactured .....

This is just lit from a phone flash LED but i intend to use the same part that lights the B&O trim to keep the same factory colour temperature

The other thing I noticed is the glove box light is not an LED !!! weird......

No.. The Pin #3 is PHYISCALLY not there on the rear module at all, and my glove box light is LED since the 2nd week of ownership lol

And yes, mine were aluminum before the carbon covers.

The option is more widely available for FL and the module part number is different I guess...
