As per the title, i'm not looking at replacing calipers or anything more advanced, i'm after an improvement on what i would say is already a decent set up. The car is at APR Stage 1 so i defo want the brakes to match.

Should i look at S4/RS4 discs and pads upgrade all round (if they even are a straight fit) or should i look at aftermarket products?

Appreciate hearing people's experiences.

Thanks

Friend put Q5 345mm brakes front, I think the rears are 320mm (still stock on his).
Plenty stoppimg power for spiritedly driving 400hp.

Not yet, doing research currently as discs and pads are good all round.

Will look further into the S4 disc and redstuff pads, keeping the factory calipers. That's pretty much what I'm after, avoiding major work but gaining extra stopping power.

Off topic slightly, i want to paint the calipers too.

Having read around other forums, the common message appears to be that while there is a definite improvement in braking (as one would expect), the cost of it doesn't appear to be value for money. Essentially, for the cost + a bit more, you can go for a full after market set up, which i'm not really up for.

I wonder if just an upgrade in pads/aftermarket discs is something could make a difference...

In my case, i need to replace pads and disc anyway, only the caliper brackets are the extra cost to move to S4 345mm dia disc. I would probably have gone the route of new stock 320 mm discs and EBC Redstuff pads if, to upgrade, something like a caliper change was required. That’s my rationale

Which aftermarket set up was referred to in the info you had found ?

Before you start spending any money, what issues are you seeing with the stock set up and your usage?

Paul

Sorry for the massive delay!

Have a look below. It seems that you won't get much ROI on upgrading to an S4 set unless as you say, you're due an upgrade anyway and its not much more that you would have paid otherwise. Apparently the carrier is different on the S4, so that might be somethibg to look I to .

Yup, the carrier/bracket is different, I've listed, what I believe to be correct, the Audi and TRW part number for the carrier in my original thread. (3.0 Tdi Avant front brake ‘mild’ upgrade time ) Picked up Pagid discs from EuroCarParts with their 50% off discount code, will wait for a good discount to arrive to get the red stuff pads. Can't seem to find a better price on the carriers as yet, currently ( c. £75 - £80 )

Are you waiting to pick up all parts then fit?

How much extra do you think you have spent for this set up over simply changing like for like (ie sealing oem pads/disc only)

I would have gone with Pagid or O.E. discs ( see what TPS could offer ! ) and Redstuff pads had I just remained with original 320 mm dia. set up. The only extra is the carriers @ £75 - £80 a side.
The only sensible way to do this is swap all 3 components ( disc, pad & carrier ) in one go. You could, technically, put the new pads on the 320 discs - but why would you ?
