Already posted in the tech forum but no response.

Has anyone suffered a noisey top end after replacing their PCV? Replaced mine last weekend and now the engine sounds very tappety.
I have carried out an oil change on no difference.
I’ve also just spotted that my crank pulley is on its way out, what are the symptoms from this?
Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

I have not read any reports of cam/cam follower problems on this engine - are you sure its not the timing chains rattling?

If the crank pulley polymer is degrading then the belts might not be running true and this might be putting stress on the supercharger and ancillaries. I wouldn't risk leaving it too long - if that stress causes wear then it could get expensive (new supercharger?).

Assuming the PCV was the only thing you changed/ disturbed, I'd be looking formly at it as the source of the noise. Did you replace it with a genuine Audi part?

Do you have the old PCV to re-fit, to see if the noise goes away?

There's no direct relationship between the valve lifters and the PCV, so if the 'tappets' have become noisy all of a sudden, it's purely coincidental.

Thanks for the reply. I’m hoping it’s not the chains.
I can see the pulley wobbling on tickover so I guess it’s shot.

It was replaced with a genuine part from TPS. It’s the only part to do with the oil system that I disturbed.

I do still have the old 1 but didn’t look after it after removal so it could be contaminated now.

Note that the crank pulley is literally two lumps of metal stuck together with a polymer. Only one piece of metal is bolted to the crankshaft so if the polymer fails completely then the part which drives the belts can detach completely. If you are unlucky this could cause collateral damage.

I see you’re MRC stage 2, is that crank pulley a complete replacement for the OE pulley?

If the timing chain tensioner/s were shot would I get any fault codes?

Lawyers in Australia and the USA are examining claims against Audi that several of their cars have been fitted with defective timing chains and tensioners, resulting in early engine failure and unsafe vehicles. Is anything being pursued in the UK about this issue?

Vehicles affected are: 2008 - 2012 A3, A4, A5, Q3, Q5, TT

My granddaughter’s A3 timing chain slipped and wrecked the engine at 88,000 miles.

I'd think that in Europe, VW Group can walk away from all their issues that they handed out or sold to customers!

Which engines are you referring to, or which engine does your grand daughter's A3 have?
