So I thought I’d post up the events of yesterday.

Bit of background, my car is Stage 1 mapped with a crackle map but with a non sports exhaust. Ever since I’d been in my mate’s Stage 1 FL with a sports exhaust I’d hankered after the sound. None the less the car I bought and the deal I got was too good to turn down.

I’ve seen a few posts regarding PCW and my mate has a B9 RS4 and he was after it sounding better too. So we popped down there yesterday.

For those of you interested in the differences in the Sports and non-Sports exhaust, it’s simply the length of the silencers before the backbox. Paul modifies these and the backbox and after speaking with him, he’s said that now mine is exactly the same as a modified Sports exhaust. I think the pre-silencers are more or less gutted now.

In sport it’s savage, it sounds epic and my does it bark and crack when the ignition cuts on gearchanges. Hot startup is even more amusing in petrol stations! I drove it back to Leeds mainly in ‘Sport’ because I’m a child and enjoyed firing cannons at unsuspecting drivers. As a side note it can be droney at 2,000rpm, only if you load it with torque.

However, switch it to comfort and all is calm, perfectly acceptable for a baby to fall asleep in the back I reckon.

For those who don’t have a sports exhaust and want one but a bit louder, absolutely do this mod, it’s now exactly the same for a fraction of the cost and with running additional boost it brings that 5 pot alive. At least it’s OEM too and there’s also no risk of ***** fitment. Paul’s welding is also second to none and with the exhaust all mounted up you can’t even tell.

Big thumbs up from me and thanks to Paul at PCW, now where’s my car keys?!

I think I’ve started a bit of a trend with my aftermarket droning exhaust bodge ;)

Glad to see somebody else has had it done. @Callump01 had his done yesterday right after you!

Paul is a saviour! :)

Paul is sat on a little gold mine there. He’s done all sorts and being able to tailor an exhaust to your liking is a massive bonus.

Oh he is for sure, £300 a go... 3 in one day, unreal.

To be honest though, it’s a proper sh1tty job. Stuck under cars all day welding and scraping your ar5e on the floor. Hang on, Thayer called mechanics aren’t they?! :whistle2:

£900 per day, 260 working days per year...getting on for £250k per year. Not a bad earner. Of course, he won't be fully booked permanently, but even so...

Get on his Instagram mate: PCW Exhausts, there are loads of videos there and a few RS3's.

Does anyone that has had this done and has the sports exhaust have a before and after? video? it's clearly worth it if you have the standard exhaust, but is it worth it if you have sports exhaust?

Surly there must be other engineers able to do this mod, no?

@jaysrs4 what did your mate think of the 4 afterwards? Asking for a friend

I have the sports Exhaust and had the PCW mod done, big difference in sound and considerably better...
Video just after I got it done. Only short but the tone is sweet lol

Ah, so it was you that I saw pulling out just as I arrived!

I had the quieter option (at least, in comparison) that he offers as I was slightly concerned about drone and I can say that there's absolutely zero drone for me, or at least no more than when I had my valves unplugged... the only caveat is that when in auto and flooring it, I don't think the valves are opening quick enough and you can hear a very loud whoosh from the rear of the car which doesn't stop until the car shoots forward. Not sure if I should be concerned about this? Something to do with back pressure maybe? I'll see if I can capture the sound on video shortly.

Here's how mine sounds, there's still a very clear difference between comfort and dynamic which I love. The video doesn't do it justice, it sounds absolutely brutal! Much deeper and throatier, pops are far louder.

I'll be at Forge Action Day if anyone wants to meet up and hear it in person.

@zaka7 I have the sports exhaust and it's still well worth doing mate! Far louder and throatier sounding.

And you have no other mods or maps that would contribute to the noise? I'm sold lol!

I got mine done in February/March time so it couldn’t of been me you seen mate.

This mod is a fantastic on these cars.

Getting my exhaust shipped to him, anyone know any good companies for sending an exhaust down south/back to Edinburgh?

I’m getting the option that is not the loudest as I’m wanting to keep use of my comfort/dynamic function and have the car quiet when I’m not in the mood.

But with having a decat Downpipe fitted it should hopefully still be loud like the Milltek.

Mate I had the “loud” option done to my exhaust and when in comfort it’s absolutely fine, I occasionally have my little boy in the back and the mrs in the car and it’s spot on, if it was to loud when driving around normally my mrs would be the first to tell me believe me lol

He’s actually going back as at motorway speeds it’s very droney. Paul is going to have a play and see what he can do to sort it.

Have you got a sports exhaust mate? Once modified they sound exactly the same.

Exactly as me. It’s not that bad and in comfort it’s perfect if you want it ‘quiet’.

I’m not that bothered anyway as I work from home and it’s not used daily.

I do mate, Almost wishing I hadn't bothered specifying it now knowing they're the same once modified, but still it should be even louder from the videos I have seen :D
That said mine is at 8500 miles now and it proper pops like a good'un just getting better and better!

Yeah mines a weekend car so I’m not too bothered either, but it’s good to know that I’m this car in comfort the mrs won’t moan about it!
In the M3 Comp it’s completely different, full Decat and PCW mod = absolute madness, like Thor throwing Superwoman around whilst being bummed by Heman lol

Get the loud option bud, honestly it’s amazing! Don’t worry about it being too loud it’s spot on.

I do love it being loud for me as I did get with the Milltek decat and Milltek non resonated catback. But the girlfriend hated the sound so it was always in comfort for her haha. Just Paul said there is not much difference with the loudest between valves open and closed. So basically sounds like your losing use of the valves.

Has anyone with this exhaust mod got a decat Downpipe fitted?
