A3 8P Clutch & DMF replacement advice

Hey all, i've recently bought a 09 Audi A3 1.9 eco, i've noticed that as i press in my clutch there is a rattling noise that comes and goes and i am almost sure that this is the same sound that my previous car used to make and i had to get both the above replaced and the noise went away.

I wanted to know if this job requires a specialized mechanic to carry it out, i have a polish mechanic that is pretty good at fixing cars and i'm pretty sure he will say yes he can do it but i don't know if on these cars they require some rocket science behind it.

As long as he can get the gearbox off and away from the engine he should be able to manage it.
Mine has been done on the driveway using axle stands and trolley jacks and the S3 is a bit more complicated. If he is a qualified mechanic then it shouldn't be too much effort for him.

ok great, i've got a quote from a place called mike smith cars in leicester, quick google search on them seems to come up with mscbmw that seem to have a good rep on bmw forums, their quote i think is extremely competitive, genuine luk clutch & dmf, labour & vat coming in at £630. I did ask if they could quote on an audi clutch but they only keep LUK, Midland VW came in at £750 but i was disappointed with them when i gave them the car for a major service as i requested they change brake fluid to uprated stuff (they said sorry we forgot to do it) & i got them to change my headbulbs but they didn't align them after changing, guys on the front desk seem very friendly though and perhaps next service i'd give them a go again just to see if they were having a bad day.....

Audi use LUK clutches anyway, so you are getting the same parts.
That sounds like a pretty good price IMO.

Anything under £700 is a good price for all that lot and OE parts aswell.

Would cost about £900 plus down south.

i was actually shocked with the quote when i read it , i emailed them again to confirm that they would be using genuine LUK stuff & they said yes, so fingers crossed they aren't pulling a blinder like in my boy racer years with my gti when i requested a luk clutch but then they fitted some dodgy clutch that packed up in 3 months

Whilst we're on the subject of my car and rather than start a new thread, should i go for genuine audi brakes & discs all round? Creweparts comes in at £276 & i got a quote from ECP £182 for Brembo pads & discs allround.

If you can get Brembo kit for less than OEM, then get the Brembo kit.
Standard kit is fine, but Brembo should be better and you save a few quid. No brainer.

Get Brembo's disc's textar pads they stop you quickly but controlled quickly . I have just had them fitted all round on my S3

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to ch1z64 for the recommendation of brembo discs and textar pads!! The combo works amazingly well & even the garage mechanic asked how i came up with the combo because he was so impressed with the stopping!
