Hi I'm new to this forum so here goes, a spark plug recently sheared off in my head!! (NGK) Nightmare! I have removed the head to find out that 2 of the valve seats have cracked it cylinders 1 and 2!! So I'm going to replace my head, my question is what other head from the 1.8t other than the BEX will fit.

Cheers any help would be much appreciated

Most of the 1.8t heads will fit, older ones like AEB will fit but don't have the secondary air injection port. The newer heads are known as small port and the older ones are large port. I have an ARY head on my BFB bottom end, ARY is from 1,8t Audi TT 180hp.

Hi I recently purchased a 2004 A4 Quattro Avant 1.8t 190bhp. Was very excited purchasing the car and all I wanted to do was just jump in and drive, unfortunately I didn't do the proper checks and after some inspection I notice that the cylinder head stamp is AUM. My question is, is it compatible with a bex block or would it be a complete AUM engine in my new Audi? What are the pros and cons of any? Car is running fine at the moment just not sure if this work was done recently or not and if my engine is a ticking time bomb, I'm not very mechanically minded so I'd appreciate some advice please

Don't worry the heads are interchangeable between all the 1.8t's except the older large port heads (AEB) because they don't have the Saip port (for emissions)
I have an ARY head from an Audi TT on my BFB engined A4.

Cheers for the quick reply mate and what about bhp? Would there be any difference? And where would I locate the engine number on the block to see if it's still a BEX?

No difference at all, it's the ECU that determines power output. I don't know where the engine number is stamped. Pretty common to have the head changed.

What kind of damage would have to be done in the first place to change the head and is it possible that there is in fact a complete AUM engine in my car?

Maybe the timing belt snapped and bent all the valves, it's usually cheaper to use a second hand head rather than replace all valves etc.
It is possible that it's a complete engine.

I'll get someone to have a look it's killing me just not knowing, I'm a bit relieved to hear that the heads areally interchangeable and I may not have been totally ripped off. One more thing mate theres a leak in the coolant system somewhere I know it could be anywhere but if it's a common problem in a particular area of the cooling system where should I be looking?

Most common are the rear coolant flange on the back of the cylinder head and the "j plug" that's behind the thermostat housing below the inlet manifold near the front of the block. I would change the j plug anyway.

Just out of curiosity what kind of price would you put on my car. 2004 b6 quattro Avant S line, Daytona Grey in mint condition with service history , sun roof, Bose sound system standard, rs6 genuine alloys

And for oil change should I use 0w 30 or 5 w 30
Sorry I have no idea on value.
Use Castrol Edge Professional 5w30, 5 litres on Ebay for around £30 delivered also make sure you get the large oil filter.
