I've entered Vmax200 event to try out my 2016 RS3 with a Revo Stage 1.
I can see from the results on their website that a few people have done the event with an RS3.

I checked with Revo and they said that the 155 mph is not disabled with stage 1 tune so I was wondering is it worth getting the limiter removed? Past results show between 152 and 162 mph is reached with an RS3.

Also how many runs will a full tank of fuel last?

This is my first runway/track event I've done so if there are any tips or information that could be useful for me to get the best out of the day please let me know.

Might not be of any help at all, but PPF is pretty much a must. Lots of loose gravel on circuits like this.

If limited to 155 why go along, you need limit removed surely.

Apparently the limiter is only there in 7th gear.

If you pass 155 in 5th or 6th gear I believe its not there.

I did notice that some of the cars were really taped up to prevent stone chips

I was wanting to do this aswell but just too far away for me.

How long is the runway?
If it is at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome then the full length runway is 3 km or nearly 2 miles. Looking at google earth the end of the runway is used for storage so I'm not really sure of the length of the runway they can use for the event.

I thought the Stage 1 would remove the speed limiter I checked the Revo website and I thought it was an over site on their website so I emailed them and they confirmed it was only delimited on Stage 2.

I looked into this and was shocked at the £395 price tag to enter. But then seeing the type of cars that owners take so I suppose money is no object then :tearsofjoy:

They also have an event where you drive cars that will break the 200 mph mark. That one is a bit pricier at £3,750 per person.

My Revo stage 1 has limiter removed... perhaps for PFL it is different.

I do wonder what my vmax would be in the TTRS now it has stage 1. I'm guessing 190mph+ for the fact it's running similar power and weight to cars that can also go that far. Not sure I'd want to try it, though!

On the Revo website Stage 1 removes the speed limiter for the 8P (335ps) and face-lift 8V(400ps) but not the pre-face-lift 8V(367ps) for some reason.

Got to be around that. The heavier and chunkier RS3 will be around the 180mph mark as stock. Obviously gets harder at higher speeds and is diminishing gains with Aero, but the old 997 turbo with 480bhp was 196!

I used to have a 450hp impreza that got stuck at 168 GPS verified mph at Marham. Truly frightening in a 1200kg car!

I thought 175 was the 3’s limit.
Limiter can be optionally raised by Audi to 174mph/280kmh. Would probably have a few more mph to go. FL obviously a little more powerful so should in theory go to 180mph. Stage 1...anyone's guess!

A speed not to be sniffed at especially in a 5 door hatch

In this pic it can do 174mph at 6220rpm in 6th so should hit 185 plus at 7000 in 7th and with more power easy.
I’ve seen just over 170mph but not really pushed it yet but I am stage 1 APR.

This did 291kph which is 180.82mph in 6th so 190 would be easy with enough power

I’ve got a friend who hit 191mph with a Stage 1 map in a PFL.

Try approx 150mph on the clock (so prob nearer 145) in an 170bhp peugeot 205 1.9gti. In a 890kg car, now that's terrifying. I say approx. as the speedo only went up to 140 mph, but the needle was waaaayy past that

I am sure the ratios in 7th are 70mph for every 2000rpm so 7000 in 7th should equate to a theoretical 245mph. Of course aero, drag, power wont get you anywhere near that but the gearbox is definitely not a limiting factor of speed in these cars.

Any ideas what a stage 1 or 2 car should be maxing out at with say 480-520hp?

Yes, 520hp in the 8J TTRS was good enough for 200mph on the clocks. There are a few videos of the TTShop TTRS running 200mph at Bruntingthorpe vmax back in 2011/12 with 520hp. 200mph on clocks was a GPS 189mph.

So 520hp would be good for 200 on clocks and 190mph on a GPS.

480hp about 5 mph off those speeds.

That’s if a Stage 1 is 480hp when it’s being pushed at 160mph+. Standard cooler I suspect will be responsible for robbing some power as the engine will be working hard and hot to propel it through 160/170. In turn, the lower available power would ultimately lower the top speed.

Not sure I would be 100% confident running a tune only car at indicated 170+ repeatedly at a vmax type event. Although the ecu will pull everything out to protect itself, it will still be pushing the car to the max and it will still be running extremely hot.

What's involved in removing the speed limiter?
With Audi charging £1000 on top of the Dynamic Pack (£1495) at the time to remove the limiter I'm guessing it wont cost anywhere near that to implement.

Does it mean a re-flash of the ECU with a new map that has the limiter removed or can it be done using Vag-Com?
I'm happy with Revo Stage 1 and don't really want to go to the expense of Revo Stage 2 or paying for another map just to get the limiter removed.

Afaik it's just a box ticked or un ticked but @DJAlix will know.

Shame in Audi

When I bought speed limit increase to 174mph was £1600, Audi recommended spec in 1st issued FL cars included this

As I previously posted, shame on Audi. I feel the same about the aluminium styling pack. £800 for 6 pieces of plastic painted silver instead of body colour

The car should be 174mph or higher anyway. This 155 nonsense has been going on years.

Focus RS has a 165mph top speed
Civic Type R has a 169mph top speed

The 155 is some sort of German agreement between the big manufacturers (Audi/BMW/Mercedes) but strangely does not apply to Porsche. If you want to go quicker then you need to pay for the additional speed limit removal. Bigger con than the dieselgate scam they had running.

155mph doesn’t apply to the R8 though but RS6/7 does even when the cars have pretty much identical power. Some dodgy handshakes going on over in Germany but no idea why they force it on the rest of world. The reason can only be down to £££, pay us some more and we will remove this unnecessary limiter for you.

Yep all the rubbish spec demo’s had it, as well as Extended Leather and electric seats I believe? There were lots of cars with the stock exhaust and the speed limiter increase, I drove one.

Funny how Audi decided themselves to add an option that cost £1600 for them to tick a box on install, crafty feckers

The 155mph limit is just a voluntary gentlemens' agreement AFAIK.

Whilst not warrantied, I'd rather spend £6-800 on a stage 1 remap which completely removes the limiter - none of this 174mph nonsense.

In my stock RS3 PFL bought without the 250km/h I have achieved 288km/h.
