Judder

Hi Guys..

I’m experiencing a judder when idling... am I right in thinking this could be an engine mount? Possibly the dog bone mount? Also I was wondering what it would cost roughly to have it put right? Location West Midlands

If you have a judder on idle and not when driving then I doubt its the mount...

'judder' needs better defining tbh..

Any fault codes?

I don’t know how else to explain it other than a judder, when you are sat still it just shakes but it’s fine when you are driving, No fault codes at all which is why I’m confused

hummm... sounds more like a running issue to me... maybe an airleak...

Dog bone/engine mount issue would be more a jolting as you let off the throttle....

Are the revs fluctuating at idle? The “woo” sound, is it like a hissing? Could be quite a few things, potentially split vac pipe, could be MAF sensor. Could be both lol. I’d get it scanned for codes and put on a smoke machine to check for leaks.

Thanks for the reply, No the revs aren’t fluctuating, it idles spot on and it boosts fine too, there’s just a judder/rattle when you are stood still, it’s really annoying too lol as for the “woo’in” I think there is a slight hiss yeah, I think I need to get it scanned yeah

Obviously get it scanned like everyone’s said..... but out of curiosity, unplug the MAF and see how it runs without it. But it does sound to me like you’ve got an air leak, very very common.

Hissing, woo’ing sound would likely be air escaping or being drawn in somewhere. These engines run rough when you get a vacuum leak because it’s a sealed system. The Ecu controls various sensors to make it run correctly, soon as it starts misreading then it tries to compensate by over fuelling, etc, etc. First point of call with these cars is to get it scanned.... I’d invest in VCDS or at least an OBD2 scan tool or WiFi module and an app on your phone, to at least help point you in the right direction. The reason behind me suggesting unplugging the MAF is if it runs fine unplugged, chances are you need a new one. If it doesn’t get it smoke tested, etc like others have suggested

Thanks for the reply’s I’ve been thinking about getting one if I’m honest... I might just donso now you’ve said that, for some reason I’ve got it in my head it could be the flywheel juddering/shaking ‍ I’m probably wrong but I’ve just got a weird feeling... cheers

If it was the DMF then the juddering would worsen when you rev it and as you drive. This is because its become unbalanced, usually a collapsed spring inside. You will difinatly know when your DMF is goosed because the whole car shakes and your gearstick vibrates like a B%@CH.

I’m glad you’ve said that... put my mind at ease abit yeah the judder goes when you give it a slight rev and isn’t there at all when you are driving... it’s just when stationary... I will get it smoke tested and get a fault reader... see if anything pops up... I tired uploading a video of the noise but the page wouldn’t let me

I will try and unplug the MAF sensor like you said too... see what that does
