Hi Everyone,

I have recently picked up quite a good condition S3, which was pretty difficult to find!

It is a 2002 with the BAM, with 113,000 miles on it.

It is completely standard apart from the Airtec Intercooler, and Badger5 TIP which I have just installed.

Basically, the car always has a rough idle from cold until the revs settle. When driving, say you come off a roundabout in 3rd, foot flat, the turbo spools as it should at around 2.5k, then when it hits peak, it drops off, then comes back in even stronger at about 4.5 - 5k. I'm sure it could be a whole host of different things, but maybe someone has had / or knows of a similar situation and what solved it.

I've had numerous cars in the past and I'd say the car feels like it has about 190hp, not 225! BUt as I said when the turbo kicks in for the second time higher up the revs, it feels as fast as I think it should, but it doesn't give me it from the start...

Thanks in advance.

Matt

The 4wd makes the s3 heavy they are not really that fast as standard and a lighter less powered will feel quicker, even with no faults
One of the best things to invest in isa vcds cable scanning the car when you have a issue should be the 1st port of call, have you checked all hoses are tight ? Could be an air leak

Sorry I did forget to mention it has been scanned and it's showing zero fault codes! However there is definitely something a miss with there being a massive flat spot between 3-4.5k! I'll probably get a boost leak check done and go from there. Cheers

Did you have the problems before you fitted the tip and fmic?

Yes I did, my hope was fitting those may help but no. I'm not that bothered as I have plans for a 400hp build soon, but until then it would be nice to know it is running right!

What you planning to get 400bhp ?

Head refresh, supertech valves, JE pistons, IE Rods, 2.0 TFSI crank, injectors, K04 hybrid / manifold, Ext wastegate, and any other ancillaries as needed! That should just about do it I think

400 on a hybrid will be pushing it most seem to be high 300
I’ve only seen 1 400bhp ko4 hybrid and that’s badger5’s lupo

I Agree with TJ, if your 400bhp is a approximation then Hybrid will net you just below that. I’m going the hybrid route and a few other have already or in the process of doing it. But if your determined for 400bhp then you’ll need a bigger turbo and even bigger pockets.

If just stick to your hybrid turbo for the sake of 20/30 Bhp is not worth the extra thousands you need to spend anything over 350 will still be quick

If you are having a total engine rebuild why are you worried about some leaks, dodgy sensor or whatever now?

What did you scan your car with to get zero faults? I have never got zero faults in 3 years of ownership on two separate cars using vcds

Well that won't be until early next year probably, so I would like it to be running fine until then.

It was VCDS, there were a couple of codes for radio and alarm, but nothing to do with engine etc suprisingly!

Cheers

Lol stop making one statement out of two unrelated paragraphs.

You are #fakenews :D
