Noisy/tick/tapping bitdi engine???

After reading about the cams issues on someone else's thread I think my car is quite loud ticking knocking on tick over. Worse when cold.
Could anyone tell me if my car sounds normal or not please

I can go and take a video of mine now for you, but I only got back in it 2-3 hours ago. Would it be cool enough yet, or does it need more time to cool down first? And did you need the engine in any particular mode?

Mine was just in normal drive mode and it was the first start in the morning but it was already 16 degrees so I would think your oil should be cooled down enough to get a good comparison.

It was still showing as 80 degrees, so I can do another tomorrow when properly cool.

I took the video, but it won’t let me share. Cropped it to 14 seconds in case the file was too large, but then it was the wrong format.

I did think diesels sound like this but after reading horror stories of cam issues and chain tensioners etc I did worry when I noticed mine was quite loud

No problem - mine was ice cold and sounded similar to yours. All 3 engines sound about the same, so we should be good!
DonkeyIce - if you could upload a video when you have a minute that would be much appreciated. I doubt all 4 would have cam issues.....

What have I started ^^ , I've listened to both your videos and they both sound fine. Before mine was done, trust me it's way way noisier than either of your cars. The ticking you can here is the injectors, if your touch them you will actually feel them ticking because they're electronic solenoids.
All sounds good to me

My 2013 Bitdi sounds the same... No problems here.

My previous A6, 2018 272 allroad, sounded like that, dealer diagnosed timing chain tensioner fault, a known issue apparently. was replaced under the warranty - its engine out job for a part that costs less than £20! its not likely to cause any issue in the long term though. On its return it was quieter but not by much. My Current 2017 BiTDi Allroad is quieter but will keep and eye (or ear!!) on it.
