Firstly, I apologise for starting a new thread when there are already at least two which have been running for some time...

This here 2017 2.0TFSI Sportback - which I've had since December 2016 - was ordered with the Audi Sound System, but came without the subwoofer control it should have had. Over the past 18 months I've spoken to the closest dealer (and had the car in there for 'investigation') and to Audi customer services, and kept tabs on what others have had to say on the threads already in existence.

A conversation with the service manager at Hereford Audi a few minutes ago has prompted me to have another crack at sorting this out.

And this is where I'd appreciate some help from someone on here who has had their missing subwoofer control rectified by an update.

Thing is, Hereford Audi cannot find anything at all which relates to this problem on their system. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that they haven't had a proper look - it's just that they've drawn a blank.

And it wasn't just a vehicle-specific search using my car's VIN either - they looked everywhere they could think of to look.

We (the service chap and I) came to the same conclusion; if they knew the part number of the SD card that was used by other dealers to succesfully update the MMI on similarly affected cars, and the name of the dealership that performed the update, they could have another look.

Thing is, they can't find anything at all regarding B&O-equipped cars with missing subwoofer controls either.

So if anyone is able to let me know the part number of the update card - or could point me to where I might find out - then I'd be extremely grateful.

And I'm more than happy to phone the service department of any dealer who has performed this update to see if they can either tell me or tell Hereford Audi.

This isn't a massive deal in the overall scheme of things, but it really would be nice to have the knob I should have had all these months.

Thanks.

There is a service recall for it......dont know the TPI number.

Let him search for "lost B&O sound settings" . The update includes subwoofer control

There are definitely updates to add the Sub control to the B&O because I've had them, but don't know if the same updates will relate to the ***. My dealer told me it was two separate updates, one for the MMI and one for the sound system as discussed in one of the other threads.

Thanks Mr Matt and Mr RJ.

I'll relay that information and see where we get. If you don't mind me asking, who was your dealer, Matt?

And one other thing while I've got my fingers warmed up. Out of interest (because it might be relevant), is the B&O subwoofer the same item as the *** one, or is it a totally different and swankier thing altogether?

This TSB looks like its for cars with B&O, not ***, but maybe it will point your dealer in the right direction?

This bulletin contains a software update for the subwoofer adjustment that is missing in the mmi for vehicles equipped with bang & olufsen.

Correct TSB and is also for not retaining the sound settings with B&O

Thanks for that, Mr billp and Mr RJ.

Having explored this further (and with the inestimable help of a certain Mr Matt Titanium, who shall remain nameless), the TSB relating to the B&O subwoofer and its missing MMI control doesn't apply to the ***-equipped model, unfortunately.

In real terms I'm no better off, having taken one small step forward and then a similarly-sized one backwards.

The other people who have helped enormously in this are in the service department of Grimsby Audi who went above and beyond in their efforts to assist, even though my car didn't come from them.

If only all dealers were as selfless.

Unless there's someone else on here with an ***-equipped car built roughly between May 2016 and early 2017 who has had the missing subwoofer control rectified by a software update - and if there is, please. let me know - then my car will have to spend hours with a cable stuck up its bottom at the local dealership in an effort to find out what's going on.

To be honest it isn't a life or death issue, and like as not I probably wouldn't use the subwoofer control that much even if I had one, but that isn't the point.

The point is that it should be there.

Later cars have it, and the book of instructions says explicitly that I should have it.

All I can say is sub control makes a HUGE difference in sound, I have PFL S3 with ***, I updated some components and at the time, the sound was great with VERY punchy bass (Bass set at 50% and sub at 75%). I later on retrofitted VC and MMI2, and once that, the sub control is gone and the sound became crap, it's like the sub isn't even there anymore, so I know for a fact, it's firmware issue so you're not gonna be able to fix it tearing the car apart.

I doubt Audi would ever come out with a fix and I have yet to see any FL *** car with sub control (correct me if I'm wrong?) But I'd just be happy if we can find out where the value is stored with VCDS and just turn the sub volume up, I looked through 5F and couldn't find anything useful, anyone has any idea?

What coding tools do you have available?

Have you tried to get anything done about it, Chris?

If you did, what happened?

Reassuring words like 'There's nothing wrong with it, Sir. That's how it is', I'd imagine...

I have it missing on mine too. I have had it two times in different dealership; both ended up calling Audi Finland (importer) and they said: Yes, it is missing from 2017 -models and it's left out on purpose (don't know why?) by the Audi factory.

Very disappointing answer and I wasn't too happy. Let me know if there is any progress. I'm fed up dealing these little niggles with Audi, it's totally hopeless. I think these little things might get me not getting yet another Audi.

As you said it's not a massive deal, adding that to a lousy experience with 2 different main dealers (Audi Bolton + Stockport) trying to get the passenger seat bolster replaced under warranty I just haven't bothered. I've read loads of posts on this and I never really got a definitive view of whether sub volume control should be available or not. Should it definitely have it ?

The car is getting due for its first service so I will ask about it then.

My 2017 s3 with bang n oulfsen has no subwoofer control , and It sounds nowhere near as good than my 2014 tdi witch had it :blue: no booming base from the boot

Just ask for the TSB for not retaining sound settings. Then you will get subwoofer control. Voor Basic MMI systems the software version is 213 or higher. For the Plus systems (harddrive) it 's 8xx or higher.

There’s no way it was left out on purpose, B&O or ***, there’s no sub signal coming out of the woofer right now and what’s the point of even having a woofer if the sub volume is set to min? Like I said, before MMI2, my interior rear view mirror and seat shakes! Now, nothing!

Not wanting to sound like a complete thicko , but whats the TSB :relaxed:

Dealerships usually do not update the firmware unless instructed to by audi central. If the update borks the system they will not be able to claim for warranty work..

They update the firmware if there is a problem which is specifiek in the TSB. Not retaining the sound settings is a problem. The solution is a firmware update.

TSB = tecnical service bulletin

In the Netherlands they called their customers back with this problem and applied the TSB (firmware update)

Be careful with the official update, I am now having issues with terminating calls via Apple CarPlay, the MMI gets stuck on telephone with the music muted until you unplug the lightening cable and plug it back in !

That should be fixed with the next carplay update / IOS update.

Production date 06/2018, subwoofer settings availiable, Bang & Olufsen.

@Phutters did you get any further with this?
No, mate - I'm afraid I haven't.

Because I seem to have exhausted all the other options I'm resigned to taking the car to the dealer and letting them stick a computer up its back passage in another attempt to get to the bottom of it.

The difficulty is finding the time. Even if I got a courtesy car it would still involve four forty-minute trips, and that's awkward to organise if you work for yourself.

Not having the control is. a pain, but because it's not quite as high a priority as a rod through the block I keep booting it into the long grass.

I promise I will report back when I get round to it.

Until then I have to make do with listening to a George Formby cassette on one of these.

Ah cassettes, I remember them C60, C90, C120. If you were feeling flush you bought chrome for the enhanced playback performance.

What ever happened to mini discs?

If you've mentioned it previously then I apologise for not having noticed, but is this to rectify the missing sub control on an ***-equipped car or a B&O one?

I hope it's the former rather than the latter, because if it is, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel that isn't a train coming the other way.
