So my car got nicked in 2016, then new orders stopped and so I couldnt get my old for new order through insurance, then I got loads of flack here when asking about if fl would ever happen ...

Now 2 years later, fully recovered I called my dealer. They say no new orders now :(

Whats happening

WLTP is so frustrating, spoke with a dealer yesterday and they confirmed that due to emission changes the new S3 will have power reduced from 310ps to 300 to meet emission regulations.

What knock on effect will this have to the RS brand? In a typical Audi fashion they have bad pr communication so we are left in lurch until Audi feel the need to communicate.

If it’s another SB you are after I think you will find plenty in the UK dealer network , delivery miles. Presume the new one post WLTP will be somewhat different.

plenty new cars in dealer network that they will want to shift ahead of Sept, so could get great deal, but clearly "new" A3/S3 coming, but not in 2019

Yep, plenty of SB and saloons at dealers with great discounts at the momont. You need to call around the dealers though to find the stock...

Dealer says opposite, they are saying this WLTP thing and the way it is affecting new orders has driven demand up so discounts are low on stock

Totally agree, there are less RS3s for sale now than for as long as I can remember. Given the order book has been closed for a while now I can't see there being any sort of fire sale at the end of the month.

I think if you don't buy now you'll be in for a long wait to get a brand new 2109 model year car and who know's what that will sound like :tearsofjoy:

New Rs5 and RS4 are both already compliant and it wont affect new versions of other RS cars when they come out. The reason for the power decrease on existing models is down to the GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filters) being put into the exhaust system to make them WTLP compliant. This is having an effect on all manufacturers as the GPF (much like the DPF on diesel cars) is reducing the free flow of the exhaust system and so the result is a small drop in power. Noise regs are coming into force as well which is why cars like the new RS4/RS5 are much quieter than their V8 predecessors. In summary we can all look forward to less powerful cars with higher CO2 figures, lower MPG figures and that sound like sh1t.

Seems to help pave the way for all electric cars in future...

This is my concern, no mention if the revised 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine is also compliant. However I can't see Audi investing a lot of time and money revising this engine set up to suddenly be scrapped.

Is there a revised 2.5? If so what’s different about it?

You can still get new pre wlpt cars after the 1st of September at your Audi dealer, it’s the manufacture that has to build and register them for sale with the EU by the 1st of September not the dealer with the DVLA

Thanks for this. looks like with weight being reduced and power increased that would offset any reduction in power caused by a GPF being introduced.

What do you think about the RS5? I checked their sub forum and its dead.

Didn't it come out before the FL RS3? I think it's not had much demand because of the weak exhaust sound, which is why I've seen big discounts on them.

The fact they have to be pre-registered on any existing stock cars means they have an owner already (in the dealer) which means they are worth less.

So I would use that to your advantage- but it may just be better to wait until the 1st September then get it at a lower price. But I don’t know which tactic works better.

Maybe look at the Audi online cars available and see how they are selling (or not).

UPDATE: Interesting - no RS3 models at all on approved used audi listings. Maybe they are going fast!

Loads on the UK site and I would guess more in the system not showing . The new legislation only means the manufacturers need to register production by a certain date the vehicles don’t need to be delivered or road registered in country of use by the same date . If they are in production or built they are good to go . That is my understanding at least .

Not what press are saying:

Car buyers can snap up bargains in August and it's all because of WLTP

As of last week Sytner Audi had quite a few FL RS3 in group stock that were brand new with 0 miles or very few miles on them, quite a few highly spec’d and seemingly discounted from standard RRP. More importantly they had months against date registered, most in June so come Sept they’ll be on the old reg 18 plate.

An exception can be made to allow a limited number of unsold vehicles in stock that were approved under the old NEDC test to be sold with a final cut off date of sep 2019 .
I have no idea if VAG will apply for the A3 or any other models , or if an application will be approved.
Given the manufactures have known about this longer than the press and public I would assume the ones already built can be sold .
Or maybe they have whittled the stock down and the remaining ones will indeed be pre registered .
Makes a good story for the rags though I admit . Loads of cars going to waste on the dock side or fire sales at dealers .
For the OP I hope I’m wrong and he picks up a bargain !!

Jonny if that were the case why aren't Audi still merrily producing cars? Afaik all production has stopped until they can get their cars through the test?

Not sure exactly. Last summer sometime. It's also in a higher price bracket so volume demand isn't the same. They're are very good deals on the BMW M4 at the moment at 0% and big discounts as the model approaches end-of-life so it has to contend with those. As for the weak exhaust note it's the first of VAGs new engines to be compliant with new EU noise regs (and is easily fixed if need be). This is going to affect all cars across the board. As I said in another post we're all being primed to drive petrol cars that sound sh1t and have worse Co2 and MPG figures. Total coincidence that all cars will be electric in 2040 of course...

Anyway, sorry, I'm taking this thread off topic.

The order stop came during the holiday because the production line had to be adjusted in order by the European WLTP standard that also includes the GPF exhaust that starts in September 2018.

Does this mean that our PFL cars will need to be fitted with this GPF that is going on the new ones?
