New stereo with Bose system help

Hi All,

New to the forum and hope this is the correct way to get the answer/advice. Did a search but it bought up all kinds of ***** but not what I needed.

I'm in the process of getting a A3 black edition so has the Bose sound system as standard, went to an ICE shop to find out about getting a new double din stereo fitted as I want DAB, screen for kids to watch stuff and phone connectivity and android play as a nice to have.

The guy in the shop said as I have the Bose speaker system I'd need an additional adapter that is about £80 and also another costly adapter for the steering controls to work as they should with the new stereo.

Is the above correct? Also if you guys could share some of your double din set ups with the above in mind as looking for ideas on which stereo is best to go for and which looks best in the car. I'm not interested in have one with Satnav as with android play I suppose I could use google maps or Waze.

Also if anything else I should keep in mind or be wary of, your information and help would be greatly appreciated.

Back in 2013 I bought a Chinese 7" Android unit for my previous 8P and it came with something labeled CAN-BUS decoder and as soon as I connected it, my steering wheel controls and DIS worked like a charm in pair with the headunit. Just a heads up that some units come with this thing.

As for Bose, I've heard you need an adapter indeed.

Quite a few of us asking the same questions here... again I have just picked up a 2011 a3 blackline that I'm wanting to swap the stereo but I can't find a clear cut answer.... plus most replies are a few years old and I'd have thought technology/cables/harness would have moved on
