I’ve had my car a week now.
I thought it was quick coming from an A3 8v diesel...
But never felt like it was ridiculously quick!
Ran some 0-60’s on gps and obd gauge and got 4.5/5 seconds
My friend drove it and said it was slower than his s3...
even putting my foot down taking off it just revs up much slower than expected... no throw back in the seat etc...
took the battery off for a night and went out in it today and nothing has changed, I’ve rang Audi and they’re coming back to me on Monday to see when they can get it in...
Just wondering if anyone has any idea of what it could be?
Anything I should check other than the standard common things..
any help is appreciated!
Good job it’s got warranty I guess.

My PFL was timed at Rockingham to 60 in 3.6s so yours is well out I'd say. Perhaps someone has transplanted a tdi engine in there ;)

When I had my PFL RS3 I got to drive a friends FL S3. Was so disappointed. My RS3 was massively quicker and OUTRAGEOUSLY louder. If your RS3 doesn't feel like a massive step up then something is wrong.

FYI, the friend with the S3 sold his car within a month he was that disappointed with his car vs my RS3.

The face lift s3 and pfl rs3 big difference in power and noise, my brother has the s3 and He says it is very noticeable the difference in both

Yeah, this is the worrying thing. Me an the lads have s3,m135I,m140i etc... it’s quite clear mines the slowest and on paper should be the quickest:blownose:

Having came from a MK7 Golf R dsg so basically the same as S3 this is what I found.
Both cars standard RS3 is night and day quicker.
Golf R Apr stage 1 very similar performance to pfl RS3 standard until very high speed
Golf Apr stage 2 much quicker than standard RS3.

So unless the S3 is modified you should be wiping the floor with it.
But does sound like you have a problem, has the car had it’s spark plugs changed ?
Should be done every 19k

It’s from used approved Audi. I should really ask but coming from Audi I didn’t... it just had full service history and 1 owner... I might take out a spark plug and check the condition of them.

On another note the mag ride is very Bangy an even the mother said it sounds like the shocks had gone...

My 65 plate banged from the rear on uneven ground and had the rear top mounts replaced under warranty which cured the noise.
How many miles has your car done?

Sounds like you've picked up one that might have been abused. Might be worth paying for a full independent check. Anything that is found should be rectified by Audi.

I’ll speak to Audi about that cheers!
So I’ve been driving the car an when I get to about 4/5k a hissing starts to happen as if a valve or something has opened and boost is leaking.
How good are the DV valves? That’s all I can think off when it’s whilsting away...

They do tend to make a bit of a hiss when on full boost cause the dv opens to regulate the boost pressure which is the noise you hear.
I done a little video of mine last week and you can hear that as the revs increase you can hear the turbo more.

Yeah it does sound a little like that but mines much more loud. Really don’t have a clue what it could be... the car is so slow

What I will say is that it’s a difficult car to compare to the S3 due to the totally different driving style needed.
The S3 has basically no turbo lag and pulls well from low down although not much happens after 5k.
The RS3 feels more laggy low down so needs to be worked harder to get the power but when you do it’s very rewarding, 4K onwards it pulls very hard and would be much much stronger than the S3.

I’ll do some videos tomorrow!
See that’s where the rs3 dies off mate... I only have a bit of fun low end then nothing... so as you can tell I’ve probably not had the deal an rs3 has to offer... waited 2.5 years for this since I was 20!

It’d be good to see/hear a video.
Is the car under warranty and how many miles has it done?
If it’s not under warranty then a dv probably would be the first thing to try, they’re about £50 and pretty easy to replace if your not shy of tackling it.

The stock DV valve is pretty flimsy compared to an uprated one. The pic below is the OEM unit removed from my car, it has a grey plastic end which presses up against a hole inside the throttle body and is controlled by an internal solenoid which is housed in the black box bit. The OEM units have been known to leak boost or stick partially open especially on cars that have been tuned.

There are a few aftermarket upgrade alternatives, Forge do a kit but the pic below is the DV+ valve (part number T9351 for those who may be interested) from Go Fast Bits (GFB). It is fairly easy to fit (with the right tools) and is much more of a robust design than the OEM part. The orange coloured part at the back is the sealing face which covers the same aperture as the grey plastic stock item in the picture above. Its a good idea to slightly lubricate the brass body (engine oil) before assembling the part and fitting it onto the car as it can also stick open if not lubricated.

I would definitely be checking DV and boost pipes as first port of call! :(

Update!
Car has been at Audi for 2 weeks now.
First thoughts were mechatronics unit,
The car popped out of gear a few times when driving along and would go back in (or clutch released) with a neck snap and would continue to drive.
Since then they’be said they don’t think it’s that. They thought the power and gearbox problem was linked... not sure how but.

I’m ringing them tomorrow to see what’s going on.
I’ve had an 18 plate TT 1.8t without have but had virtual cockpit (if anyone was wondering, think it’s pointless having VC without nav).

Read top mounts have been replaced, top mounts on mag ride making noises are classed as a TPI.
Technicial part something... in English I think Audi know about the problem and it’s a common one and new top mounts are fitted which are better...

Anyone have any other opinions on this other than slow?:wtf:

I had a 17 plate facelift before my rs and I loved it and the little touches in the cabin on the facelift make it night and day over the pre but as said the rs is a different league slough having had a few fast Audi’s I didn’t find the standard performance ground breaking

The only other thing that affects launch control is if you have got the hill assist option (the button next to the electric handbrake button) and have left it switched on when launching. It makes the car a fair bit slower off the line. It needs to be switched off for the full launch.
Has anyone done a leak test on it yet to to see if boost is getting bled off somewhere? This can be split/loose intercooler hoses, maybe a damaged intercooler (hole in it), or maybe the DV valve partially sticking open (mentioned in post above).

Is this true? I have hill hold assist on mine. Very handy little option to have but never realised it ******* the launch control slightly.

It does even Audi recommend turning it off.

If you read the Audi handbook you will see that it recommends switching off the hill hold assist when launching the car.
It makes a significant difference to the launch times (at least half a second). There are also two stages to using the launch control feature. The quick press which engages 'Sport mode' and the longer five second press which switches everything off for full launch. If you have tuned the car and use the the latter option it tends to give the drive-train a hard time.

I'm not sure if my dump valve intermittently sticks open, it went to Audi and they said its bearing noise and needed to drive it 'as required' until they found the issue, it never went in.
Maybe once every couple of weeks I get a really loud whistling sound, clear as day when on half to full boost.
Rather than letting Audi have their way with it, I am waiting after some advice off of here until the car decides there is an issue with it all being monitored.

I will have to try this now.....

I was always under the impression that when you load the engine, the hill hold releases anyway (I was sure I've seen the light go off, must just be me).

The car launches way better with the hold assist turned off.

When you say giving the drive train a hard time, can it develop any problems?

What car are we talking about? PFL RS3?

What fuel is in the car? What is the official Audi 0-62 time? 4.3?

Pfl 65 plate... launch control was used to get this time. Pretty sure hill assist was off.
On paper time should be 4.3.
May I add this is the best time out of 3... worst was 5 seconds dead.
Currently in Audi, they’ve had it a week and I’ve been away so going to have a chat with them tomorrow see whats going on, id have hoped they have done leak tests on it!

Every PFL I've seen has been 3.6-3.8s go 60mph.
