BlowOff

S3's do not like these bov's. Stick with a oem one they are good enough.Get a come filter and oversized tip and you will hear it all loud enough.

Don’t put a dump valve on a 1.8t, diverter valve (recirc) only. As mentioned if you’re after noise, you’ll hear it with a cone filter. The ECU will be much happier.

I put one of these on my S3 also put these on at the same time & it seems O.K.

So wrong on so many levels...

TIP is just a silicon version of OE and no performance gains... should have got an 80mm one... HKS filter is gimmiky at best... split R should go straight in the bin...sorry :/

Really dislike these pearls of wisdom without explanation....
Unfortunately they aren't very productive as without explanation they just come across as arrogant & patronising.

Stock intake was perished & split in several places. The one I bought is Silicone & is a direct replacement ! The B.O.V. can be used as atmospheric blow off or Simply as an adjustable recirculation valve (which is how it will now be used ) again pretty much a direct replacement ! The Filter I've used the same on other car's I've owned & found them to be fine not too loud & easy to clean.
This isn't my first Quattro however I should have learn from my prior mistake. I bought a 2.0L 10v UR Quattro around 20yrs ago & that was also an unreliable money pit much the same as this S3 has been up until now.
I'm a mechanic by trade with almost 30yrs on the tools not a kid looking for gimmick's.
I joined up here for info / help & advice as I'm not too familiar with the pros n cons of the 18t-20v engine never had much to do with them.

Ok... Silicone TIP based on the std shape is flow restricted... have seen nearly 20hp gains using an 80mm one

VAG ECU's are MAF based... the charge system is designed to be a sealed system (so leak free) a BOV/Atmos valve is essentially an air leak... the ECU then has to try and adapt the air leak out but then will have to readapt when the valve is closed... this gives the ECU a bit more work than is needed to get the fuelling correct under all circumstances... issues from 'airleaks' can vary but hesitancy, stalling and even missfires can happen...

The Split-r is essentially neither a good BOV or a good DV... it does neither very well at all... a brand new OE one will hold 30psi no probs or try something like the Forge 008... you may have gathered I am not a massive fan of them...

The filter is obviously a personal choice... if it works for you then all good :)

Appreciate that thank you. I can now get my head around your previous reply. You say 80mm tip i'm assuming your talking about the intake ? As this is 76mm at the MAF end & as i said purchased as a fit for purpose replacement as the original had split on a few of the off-shots plus it had gone soft & would i suspect been proned to collaps under induction ?

The Turbo inlet pipe (TIP) that you want for performance is a badger 5 one. They’re 80mm all the way to the turbo and don’t taper in like most “performance” pipes. They’re completely plug and play exactly the same as the one you’ve got. The OEM ones are prone to collapsing at high rpm which is what causes the restriction as well as their size, but yeah if it’s gone soft it’s just strangling the engine.

Yeah... OE ones are prone to collapse once they get warm and can cavitate if the engines been mapped and boost request is a little high (silicon ones based on OE shape can suffer cavitation too)

Silicone replacements were the defacto choice some years back (I had one myself) but the 80mm TIP was developed by Bill at Badger5 (and copied by others) and nets decent results... even on a std car they make a difference as it just makes things breath more easily...

MAF being 76mm won't matter... silicon will clamp down fine...

80mm TIP, cone airfilter, 3" downpipe and a decent FMIC are generally the best things you can do to an S3 before stuff gets more pricey lol

1.8t's have their own sets of issues but once you have a handle on them they are the same sorta issues for any 1.8t engine car VAG make.... :)

I have been tinkering with a idea of putting kind of a whistle to pipe, what connects DV outlet to TIP :D
Dunno would it work and what kind of noise it would make if any at all. It might be little restrictive but not much if done right.

Just buy an electric supercharger and be done with all your performance woes.

This forum had changed, i thought split-r fans were ip banned with no appeal :D

Half put my s3 welly cooler on said TT today, the crash bar is sort of squashed already with enough space. What I want to also do is add my posh spacers, change the front wheel speed sensors and change the dog bone mount ready for my DP.

Typical Audi showed me 'a leaking flange' sounds sexual, must be related to jacking or it up somehow !!!@ and a fricken ripped inner drive shaft boot!!

I only had wheel bearings changed last week, they didn't say anything?!@# (Did they cause this somehow?)

Has anyone put a 'glue together' CV boot on one of these cars.
