Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting my 2016 3.0 tdi quattro remapped but have been told by 2 different company's that it's not possible on my car as it has a new Audi ecu that hasn't been cracked yet, and it's still being developed.

Quite a few remapping websites give me the figures on what it would be once it's remapped, but when i actually book it in they then tell me it's not possible.

Was just wondering if anyone else has had it done to there one?

Cheers

Barrie

I don’t know about remaps but you could always go the route that S4 and RS4 owners have gone and get a tuning box while proper maps are being created and the ECU cracked? I have one and they’re pretty good to be honest, also had one on my 3.0tdi 245PS B8.5 A4 and it worked well there as well.

If you want info, DTUK is really good and easy to get hold of as well as ask questions. Andrew is the owner and will happily chat with you and explain things if you want. I’m pretty sure they also offer discounts to forum members if I remember rightly.

Thanks for the quick response, i did look at the the tuning boxes but rejected it when i read about how it actually works. But if other people have used it and it works i might look at it again.

Just out of interest, have you had it on a rolling road to see what the actual gains were from a tuning box?

Cheers

Yeah, they can sound a bit iffy but the tech has changed enough that they work well these days.

I haven’t been on a dyno with mine but Andrew has, as well as a couple others and it puts out the quoted figures (as long as you allow for normal tolerances). More people have done quarter miles than dynos in a WhatsApp chat group we have for it and the results show good gains. I can’t remember the exact figures off the top of my head for that but someone tested the 0-60 the other day and got 3.5s with a Racelogic box so that’s almost a second faster than without it.

Yeah, you can get them on the website chat or just give them a shout and they’ll be happy to talk!

Did you go for the tuning box because you couldn’t have a remap or just as an alternative way of doing it?

A little bit of both to be honest. Since my car is still in warranty for the next couple years it means that I can remove it if I need to take it in (as I've already had to do once), and they haven't been able to see it was on there. Obviously I'm limited since the ECU is still locked but I don't know if I'd go for a full remap or not until warranty is up anyway.

Not sure why you've been told this https://www.celtictuning.co.uk/serv...tdi-268-bhp-2015-ECU-remap-chiptuning/stage-1

Cheers, I guess it’s an option and gives you the best of both worlds.

To be fair, my car is no slouch. But when I had a race with a new bmw 335d and I was only just off of his rear bumper it got me thinking. Just that little more power and I would have had him! Should have got an S4!

There are a number of tuners that advertise being able to do the B9 S4 as well but when you actually contact them they tell you that they actually aren't able yet, this could well be the same thing. If it's not then great, but it's just something to be aware of.

Though I would go for a tuning box as well, as Daggerit has suggested, whilst the car is under warranty..

You could be right as they advertise tuning for the s4 b9 as well

Yeah, and that's not even the right engine as it's the output from the B8 supercharged one...

The DTUK boxes are getting around 400-410PS and 610Nm and running about 3.5-3.8s to 60mph anyway, so not worth a remap yet I don't think.

Just spoke to the bloke that come to look at mine and he said the ecu is called an MD1. He said the 2015 b9 had a Bosch ecu but then Audi changed it from 2016 to make it harder to tinker with.

Some BMW’s have the same ecu.

That could explain things...

Don't quote me because it's second hand information, but I've been told that the M140i runs the same ECU and it's just been cracked. If that's true then it means that we should be able to see some remaps coming sooner rather than later hopefully.

Some info on the Bosch MD1 https://www.bosch-mobility-solution...system/engine-control-unit-for-large-engines/ If it's the right version.

Some BMW chat about cracking the MD1 http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/130938-re-mapping-g31g32/

I'll have to take a look and see what ECU is in mine when I'm next under the bonnet then. I assume it's the MG1 and if so that means that it's been cracked in BMW guise.

Matt from https://www.maprotuning.co.uk/# said he’d let me know once it can be done, should be in the next few months. He was also the only one that come out and looked at the car to see if it could be done.

Also confirmed that the BMW M140i has only been cracked in the last couple of weeks.

I was looking into this again last week. Spoke to a few companies and all said it won’t be till next year, possibly spring time.

Have a word with @Rick @ Unicorn Motor Dev. Unicorn Motor Developments in Stockport. He is a forum sponsor and a regular genius. He's usually one of the first to be able to map new cars and is mapping the new BMW140 240 with the new ECU's now.
