Are there any must have non standard additions to add to S4

For some reason most of the audi approved s4 out there do not have the adaptive suspension which I though most people would have specced.

Also is the virtual cockpit a must have or not.

I can't see any videos of the s4 standard dash and how it looks My current BMW has a black panel display which shows media on it. Does the s4 have that as standard

I believe the standard one does have that but if I were you I’d hold out for one with a VC. It’s just a really good thing to look at and gives you more information at once as well.

I’d agree, you don’t buy an S4 for a super plush ride. It’s not super crash or anything like that but it’s understandably stiffer than a model with the SE or sports suspension.

I got it because I like having a little more flexibility with a family to worry about.

I think VC is a must have but it is something else to go wrong. Sports diff is a good option to look for as well.

VC is well worth having and a 'MUST HAVE' for me, very versatile what you can display on it as well as the other screen on dash. very pleasing to look at too! oh ands matrix LED are witch craft! and worth having IMHO too!

Agreed. I didn't spec them and have been pleasantly surprised by the ride, which is no worse than my old A6 S-Line. Definately softer than the wife's S3, which is a good thing for normal driving.

A lot of people like the sports diff but it depends how you drive IMO. Unless you're pushing the limits of the car, I would have thought the standard diff is more than sufficient.

VC is lovely, though the standard dash will display the same information, you just miss out on the flexibility and full screen nav.

And Matrix lights are awesome

+1 for VC it just adds to the specialness inside that you expect with a higher model.

Given BMW have some of the worst dials screen and info wise, even the standard S4 dials will trump them, It has full colour 7” screen that displays Nav, Media etc..

Im about to put a deposit down on a new S4. On the spec is:

Virtual Cockpit - I have the standard one in my S-Line now which although it is great and can display the map etc in the middle, the information that can be displayed at once on the VC is so much better.

Adaptive Suspension - this isn't about having a 'super plush ride'. Given the state of the roads, this is money well spent. I test drove an S4 at Northampton Audi without it and one at Milton Keynes with and you can tell the difference!

I wouldn't bother with a sports diff. I had a LSD on my M3 but unless you plan on giving it the beans everywhere or doing trackways you wouldn't really see the benefits in my opinion.

I had the same issue with the approved used, I was after the comfort and sound and tour packs as I want the adaptive cruise control. Most on the approved are basic spec. I decided to put a bit more away for a few months and will be getting my spec built. I figured that this is a real treat for me (always promised myself a performance car for my 40th) and I'm not going to compromise.

I had mag ride on previous RS3 and dynamic ride is too stiff for road use imho. Don't have it on the 4 which just rides really well in all situations.

Just bear in mind that the sports diff isn't an LSD, it's an electronically controlled differential that can change the distribution to suit a range of things. If the car thinks you're understeering it might alter the distribution between the rear wheels to push you round a corner more, whereas an LSD would need actual slip before it started acting. It really is a good bit of kit and you can feel it working without being at any kinds of silly speeds, like tucking you in around roundabouts and things.

I had the same experience in a Porsche Cayman when I tried the adaptive suspension. The front wheels felt like they were skipping in corners on anything other than perfectly flat tarmac.

The S4 isn't mag ride though, it's valves dampers (as far as I'm aware), so the ride is never harsh or too stiff for actual road driving I wouldn't say.

If you have the luxury of choice and there's cars with VC, adaptive etc for a small outlay more than one without then fill your boots, however - I have got an S4 with no options because it's a PCH and I went as cheap as possible (3+23, £399 a month, 11K p/a). I came from a 64 plate 335d GT M-Sport with LOADS of options (inc. adaptive - which the BMW needed badly because it wasn't a well sorted car in the first place!) and I am not disappointed in the S4 at all. Sure I'd love the Matrix lights, window tints, B&O but do I ever yearn for them? No. And the standard dash is night and day better than the BMWs.

I'd honestly say the S4 packs a lovely punch with its standard spec and then it all comes down to how much you value the options.

Fair enough! I like it because it can be a little more comfy on a dual carriageway or something and then get less roll on a back road if I'm out for a Sunday blast.

Totally agree about sports diff, you can feel it working from my experience without giving it full beans and stupid speeds round corners, just seems to help with any undesteer from what I’ve felt, would recommend if you can stretch to it.
