Wheel Spacers worth it?

So my wheels are in getting powder coated satin black and I'm considering wheels spacers and new springs to lower the car slightly just to get rid of the arch gap.
Question is, are spacers worth the money and do they make a bug different to the look of the car?

If anyone has before and after that would really helpful.

Also where to buy them from? my car a is a 2014 avant bitdi.

Yes they are worth it imo.

Currently traveling home from working away but i have after photo’s and pretty certain i took before ones as well.

With a lowered car they are needed ti fill the arches

I've never felt the A6 needed them on OEM wheels, but they made a huge difference to my Golf and my A4, so consider them if the wheels look too tucked in - it even made the tiny alloys on my winter wheels look a lot beefier!

Just remember it's unsprung weight, so I'd recommend a good brand that does an alloy version... and try to stick to hubcentric (with the lip), so the weight of the car is on that lip, not completely on the bolts) - there's a reason they're illegal in loads of places (e.g. Australia - for safety), so don't skimp: if done properly, with good components (hubcentric and a good brand), then they should be fine.

EDIT: the ones I was most impressed with were the H&R Trak+.

EDIT2: Also - you'll need extra length bolts, be careful of various fronts:

• you'll need the correct head shape (cone / rounded, etc), so you don't damage the wheel
• you may have to change the head size, to find the right length nuts / locking nuts: make sure you have an adapter in the toolkit - otherwise you may not be able to change tyres if you get a flat!
• you'll need to get the bolt length almost perfect (painful personal experience*).

*I think I went ~4-5mm too long on the locking wheel nuts on my Golf and it ripped all the ABS sensors out - not cheap!

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing! I’ll keep you posted as to what and where I go with it.

I would avoid getting cheap spacers as you get what you pay for and it they are only slight out of balance you will notice it

For bolts you want a m14x1.5 radius seat bolt (they are a 17mm head). The standard thread length is 27mm so you need to add the width of the spacer to the length of the bolt.

So for 10mm spacers they will come with a 35mm length, for 15 mm spacers they 40mm long. (I know that is 2mm shorted but thats the size required)

Valid point, assumed he has OEM wheels in which case it is easy to work out the spacer sizes. If not give me the offset and width and I can work out what will fit.

I have the OEM 19’s and run 10mm on the front and 15mm on the rear

Only have a shot of the rears ftted; car needs a good wash before i take a photo of the fronts!!




Bought the H&R Trak spacers with longer bolts from DPM Performance

I do like a spaced wheel, but tbh with an allroad I think contact would be made somewhere plus the protectors fold under a good way but they are smaller lips at the top

Lower it and the decide. 20mm spacer’s all round will cartch the arches. Are the rims 19”son it now?

In that case. 15mm on rear and 10mm front. If you go bigger than 10mm they will catch when turning with any kind of bump

Finally a few pics showing the spacers, this is mine with 15mm spacers on the rear and 10mm spacers on the front. This is with a 25mm drop. There is no space in the rear arches to go any wider without catching and the fronts still catch occasionally when turning on fully lock into a steep driveway for example.

Hang fire before pulling the trigger as I might know someone who has a set of fronts and rears, only a couple of months old for sale and at a very reasonable price! Just need to make sure the BBS' fit first
