Hello All,

So day one with the UTR (front & rear) installed in my lovely new SQ5 and I already have a problem...

On first connection using the app to connect to the WiFi AP on the device it prompts me to change the SSID, encryption type and password. So I duly change the SSID from AUDIUTR to the snappy UTR18, security type to WPA2-PSK and the password to the 7 character registration of my vehicle. The gem I missed here is that a WiFi password must be at least 8 characters :( So I now have a UTR with a WiFi AP I can't connect to due to a lack of validation in the app, not an issue I say to myself, I'll just use the reset button to reset back to the default and go again...Now six attempts later I'm stumped as to the exact sequence needed to reset the SSID and password. The manual helpfully says the reset button should do this but alas after pressing for anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds I seem to end up back with my modified SSID.

Has anyone successfuly reset their device??? If the dumb software had not presented the SSID/password change screen or done some password validation I would not be in this silly position. Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Did you get this fixed?
I have the same problem.
Thanks

No, waiting for courtesy car slot as they want to try and fix it one more time. Will demand replacement if they can’t reset the wifi at the second attempt.

How did you break your unit, 7 character wifi password?

Just bought a ex demo from the audi garage and they are not sure who set the password on the camera unit. I will let you know if they get it fixed.

Thanks, will be interested if they work out how to reset it...

Just remove the SD card, plug it into your PC and find the config file. Open it up in a text editor like Notepad and see if you can find the WiFi password and edit it.

If not, try deleting the config file (save a copy to your desktop first) and then plug it back into your UTR and see if that helps.

Good idea @“Evil Derboy” I didn’t figure that the device would store it’s settings on SD card, but I’m not 100% sure this will fix the issue as I did switch between two SD cards and the wifi settings appeared to be maintained.

Will give it a go tonight

The configuration file on the SD card has a lot of options (including some that I plan to tweak while my WiFi is not working) but it does not have the SSID or the WiFi password.

I bought a 32GB Samsung Evo Plus (class 10 / U1) which works well. As the camera needs a FAT32 formatted micro SD cards, I don’t know if bigger would work.

Bummer!

Hello,
I had this exact issue and had it fixed yesterday.
In order to reset your WiFi passord you have to "kill" the camera as it was said to me.
To achieve this press and hold the power button for 22-30 seconds and release. This apparently resets the entire camera. However this DOES delete everything on the camera memory card.
If you take the card out and plug it into a computer you can get off what you need but will reformat the card when you put it back into the camera again deleting everything off it.
Hope this helps.

Hello @Bob2018,

So do you hold down the power button for 30 seconds when it’s already on, as after 3 seconds it turns off? When you hold it down for 30+ seconds when it is off, the power light flashed while I was holding the button, but my camera did not reset. Also, did only your password reset to 1234567890 or did your SSID also revert to the default AUDIUTR?

Thanks.

Hello,
I don't remember if it was on or off when they started doing it sorry. Maybe try both. It reset it back to factory settings fully as I was totally locked out of the camera unit now it works perfectly.

Maybe also try the 22 seconds. As one guy said 22 the other said 30 seconds.

Do you recall if the SSID was changed?

I honestly don't know. Mine is now audiutr but don't know if was ever changed from that. Sorry

Is your UTR all working again now @mxnrg?

No. I will have to send a pointy email this week as the service department still haven't conceded that they need to replace the main unit. Sales guy is on my side but I've not had time to give them grief...

My UTR is all working well but came with an 8gb card from Audi. It works fine but overwrites it’s files very quickly so I want a bigger memory card now.

Did you have to format this card or does it self format when you first insert the card?

Default FAT32 format worked, but the UTR software can also be used to format a microSD card.

So this issue was sorted when the service department at my dealer finally talked to the right folks at Audi technical Basically I needed a blank microSD with two files on it as below:

AUDIUTR.BRN
SSID_PW.CFG

These were downloaded from a dropsite that I won’t share here as I think it is internal to the tech dept (DM me if you want these). The first file is some kind of binary file that I guess reflashes the camera, the second file is just a text file with the SSID and password.

When I inserted this card into the turned off camera and turned it on, it made a beeping sound and both on/off and WiFi LEDs flashed. I gave it a couple of minutes and then turned the camera off. I then re-inserted a blank microSD card and turned the device back on. After this the SSID was set back to AUDIUTR and the password to 1234567890.

I won’t be changing SSID/password or updating the firmware for a while as I’d like it to just work, tinkering is what broke it first time!!!

Wow, took some time but glad it is sorted. How are you enjoying your car? How are you finding maintaining after coating? Easy isn’t it.

I’m going in to Chingford Audi to buy full set if rubber matts for the car, I’ll see if I can get some goodwill after it took them so long to get back to me with the fix. Audi technical emailed the solution on July 3rd and I had to poke the service dept. to remind them I was still waiting.

My sales guy Nick Payne was quality throughout. Service guys dragged their feet a bit.

Happy now though.

Not washed it since I picked it up :O Need to complete that basic wash purchase list soon!

Only done 430 miles in 7 weeks since pickup. Absolutely love the air ride in comfort while running it in and the refinement is superb. Gotta find a reason to put another 570 miles on before I have some fun :p

A bit late to this thread but might be of some use to somebody. I also have an Audi UTR and I use the iPhone UTR app. When you first connect to the UTR via the app it insists on the password being changed from the default. However, there is only one password box so if you make a typo there is no opportunity to spot it (like when you have to type the password again in a second confirmation box). After I had changed my password I was locked out like the OP was. For some bizarre reason (on the iPhone app at least) the password is all in capitals whether you typed it that way or not. No idea why. Anyway, I typed the password all in capitals and it worked.

Regarding which larger micro sd cards work, the SanDisk Ultra 64gb microSDXC works fine in mine and there is another post somewhere where other people report that particular card works for them too. I also tried a 64gb SanDisk "high endurance" card (designed for dash cams etc) and this worked until the UTR firmware update and which point it refused to work even after formatting on a computer. The SanDisk Ultra is fine even after the UTR firmware update. It's really irritating that devices are so picky about which card will work but a friend of mine who works in IT tells me this is a common thing across many devices so it isn't by any means unique to the UTR.

Hi,

Can anyone please advise if they've managed to install the Front & Rear UTR to an Audi A7 2018 onwards? Thanks.

Hello !

I just wondered whether you had got anywhere with your UTR problem. I recently bought an S5 from Audi Cambridge with a UTR fitted by the previous owner. I also cannot access the UTR as I don't know the password and can't seem to reset the unit. Every time I go over a bump or brake sharply, it registers this as an "event" and beeps loudly three times which is very annoying. I can't change the sensitivity as I can't access the UTR with the app.

Audi Cambridge have been less than helpful, at one point even telling me that once the password has been set, it can't easily be changed ! In other words every time the password is forgotten or the car changes owners the UTR would have to be replaced with a new one!! This is obviously ludicrous and there has to be a way of resetting. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated

UPDATE: I just realised there was a later post with (hopefully) the solution which was to insert a new SD card with the correct install files. I will talk to Audi again and maybe I might get somewhere....

Many thanks to mxnrg for the help with my password issue. I can now access the UTR via the app and change settings, sensitivity etc. I needed a blank micro SD card with the 2 files on (see previous post)

Hi,

I have purchased my Audi UTR around 2 years ago, but until now I had no time at all to install it. Finally I was tearing down my A6 Avant's interior to be able to install my front and rear cameras properly as its mentioned in the instruction. On end of installation I have faced with the same issue like above: Im unable to connect my smartphone to Audi UTR. I have tried a several way with no luck. Because my camera is 2 years old and even in a meantime I have moved to different country there is no chance to solve my issue only on one way: if you can help me and share the mentioned .brn and .cfg files. Could you please help?

Thanks in advance
Best regards
Frank

Hi Sherro,

I have installed my UTR couple of days ago into my Audi A6 Avant 4G/C7 2017 facelifted modell.
The installation instruction is stated several models from A4 to A8 almost all modells (please see attached picture), but as I understood you are talking about Audi A7 4K8 from 2018 onward not about Audi A7 4G 2010-2018 which has a same instruction like for my 2017 A6.
Btw these models from Audi looks very similiar, so I expect also the similar way to install this UTR kit into your car.

If you need the instruction in pdf file just let me know.
Good luck.

Regards,
Frank

wow sorry about this i did not even realise that there was a thread for ADUI UTR - better late than never - Yes I got My dealer to install the UTR front and rear to my 2nd Gen A7 - lots o f niggles but looks nice although probably get better value from other makes of dashcam.

After having the UTR for almost 18months, and several firmware updates, and iphone app updates, I thought it was getting better.
Just wondered what size sdcard most folks are using - I thought my 256GB Samsung EVO was good until I noticed issues access the footage on the app and also file dates do not match the footage date? Any one else experienced similar?

I use a 32gb card in mine. To be honest, the UTR is garbage. Had I known what it was like I would have gone for something else.

I had the same feelings about, and asked for it to be removed but they said I would need to drop it off for a couple of days and decided it was just too much hassle, as I would then have to source a Dashcam and fit it myself. The car had already been in and out if the workshop several times and i just got fed up.

Anyway i wanted to review some footage over the weekend, copied it onto a pc and found that files dated for the last few weeks appear to show video from last month so not sure if the dashcam or faulty memory caused it. Reformatted and tried again, so far so good.
