Now I know we don't buy these cars to bother too much about MPG but .....

I went on a 90 mile drive (each way) at the weekend to a theme park and was lead car of a convoy of two.

Family member was following us behind and I told them to follow me as they did not know the way or have sat nav. I also took it steady and obeyed all of the speed limits (as always of course).

We left fairly early in the morning and traffic was light and free flowing and going steady I was not accelerating at my usual "RS" pace shall we say.

Anyway ... to my astonishment, I checked the mpg and saw I was achieving 35 mpg, then 36, then 37, then 38, then 39 ! Got all the way up to 39.8 mpg ... although I really wanted to get into the 40's lol :)

I dodn't set out to get amazing mpg, I just found it interesting when I did check it.

Now come on Guys that is impressive from a car which is supercar quick :icon thumright:

Anyone ever got into the 40's ? :tearsofjoy:

I usually get 34mpg on way to work and about 18mpg on the way back.

Not been able to do a long run and resist making some noise so best Ive had is 32mpg

The best I ever had was 35mpg, but my average is 24mpg.

Doesn’t sound like you guys get drastically less than the S3.

I had a Golf R before, my average was 25 mpg, so 1 mpg difference between the Golf R and the RS3, which is good given that it weighs 100kg more, and has a bigger/more powerful engine.

The RS3 is faster, I hit 176mph this weekend and it was still pulling.

40.3mpg indicated over a 4:14hr, 223 mile trip up the motorway while sitting in some M25 traffic.

(Return leg reset on the short-term computer) On the way back I sat in a good 2 and a half hours of London traffic both in central and on the M4, by the time I got back to Wales I had an average of 36.8mpg for 5:56hr and 209 miles.

Full tank to 0 miles of V Power was 434 miles. Could have been better, air con was pumping out for the full 10 hours, sound system up... didn’t go over 70, but lorry speeds would see a lot better. When refilled, it gave me 405 miles range and I’ve seen 400 a few times since.

Calculated MPG was 36.96mpg.

Diesel RS3?

Ah no maths there, all in pictures of the dash and in my fuel app ;)

My average over 8,500 miles is 24.11, majority of that is local driving but a good few couple hundred mile long trips.

In the S3 over 11,800 miles in its life I got 25.11 average, but I had a 26 mile round trip commute every day so I had better economy.... pretty much exactly the same to run.

7000 miles and 25.1mpg average. Regularly seen high teens, rarely 30+

Crikey do you lot live in the middle of Scotland or some other place with near zero traffic - around Reading I get about 25-27mpg for a 20 mile run each way to work, most of it in heavy traffic. I usually got around 32-34mpg out of the S3 - once 42mpg driving like a nun at max 60mph 90 miles to longleat as wife and kids were sleeping.

How are you finding the modified exhaust Matt?

I’ve only had 2 days with it before it got parked up at the detailers to be stored while I’m away ;)

Sounds incredible but too loud on the motorway, when I go back I’m plugging the valves in to see what difference it makes and the long term plan is to get a remote for them.

3500 miles so far.
Average is 27.3mpg with the best and worst at 35.5 and 23.4 (tank full to tank full - not individual journeys).
On a recent run up to the lakes with an average speed of 60 over 290 miles, I managed 38mpg - I did see over 40mpg but got stuck in traffic and was going to be late - so had to increase speed (somewhat).

For reference, my 8v S3 over 19500 miles averaged 29.2mpg with a best and worst of 40.1 and 22.4. So, not too much difference.

7000 miles. Average is 22.2mpg since new.
Best I have is 34.8 on motorway miles,
Worst is 6.9 (not a typo) in stop start traffic on a short journey
Have to think of it as smiles per gallon!

Easily achieve 35-37 on long journeys without hitting traffic, 18mpg around MK, I've had it 40+ on airport journeys (motorway crusing at 50-60mph as very early for flight)

My record is 42,5 mpg over a 220km distance.. Im impressed with how low it gets when driving normally on a trip. But in the city I don't look at it ;)

I am getting more MPG in my FL RS3 than the daughter in her FL S3, we do almost the same driving each day as well.

I guess the 7th gear helps when cruising ... & light foot when accelerating.

Quite amazing though that you can get into the 40’s mpg with these cars ... & single digits at the other end when giving it some :)

37.6 over a 150 mile drive back from mid-wales to South Yorkshire at the weekend, most of the time pretty steady on A-roads on cruise between 50-60 - it was sitting just over 40mpg until I got to the M56 where i upped it to 80 and brought the average down slightly - proper surprised.

On a usual day I'll get 33-35 on the way to work and 30 on the way back, but normally it's around 20-25 around town/usual trips
