My car has a slight miss (momentary power cut) when accelerating medium to full throttle in 1st gear. It seems fine on light throttle and in comfort mode. If feels like you’ve backed off the accelerator momentarily.

Any idea what this could be, has anyone had this issue.

Might be traction control kicking in, do you see a yellow icon light up in the driver's display?

I was thinking it may be traction control related. Don’t remember seeing the light come on but I’m new to the car so may have missed it. I guess the way to test it would be to turn traction control off?

Is this when accelerating hard from a stop? They are all really lumpy on times if you boot it from the line without launch, it’s rubbish.

It's most likely traction control. I never the drive the car without traction in sport mode, it's even kicking in in 3rd gear for me now I'm running 500bhp.

Mine will kick in whenever, 4th / 5th year even in the right conditions. It never ever loses traction though, if I know I’m driving it quickly it goes into sport like you.

What do you mean by going into sport. I’m still a little confused with the modes. As it seems you can be in any of the three modes + sport if you pop the lever back.

I’ll usualy pick a mode and then switch between D & S depending how relaxed or agro I need the car to respond.

We mean Traction Control mode, the ESC button on the dash... press it once quickly and it will show on the dash you are in sport, long press and hold and it will some up “ESC OFF” and is supposed to be totally off then, but some have said it is still in the background.

Traction control in sport will stop any unwelcome traction control intervention in my experience and will only then work as it should do.

I do the same as you, drive in individual with the gearbox in D. If I’m driving fast, it’s normally in manual but occasionally sport.

If it’s onlt taking off from a stop we all have it, the car violently pulls back like it’s a loss of power.. not sure why it does it. I normally go somewhat easy on the accelerator until I’m in 2nd gear to stop it. No TC light when it happens, just the gearbox having a hissy with all that torque.

I’ve had exactly this, used to get it in my 8p S3 also

The dealer had a look but would have been better asking next doors cat to diagnose

The problem is unless it can be replicated the dealer isn’t interested

Maybe it is TC activating

Thanks audinutta, I'll have a play with the traction control button.

Behind bins, my issue is fairly consistent. I'll hit up the dealer if the traction button doesn't solve it.

Mine does the same, bogs down from a standstill out of junctions when trying to exit quickly.

I am now convinced there is slip in the AWD system. It is taking longer to get all 4 tyres hooking up and this momentary loss of traction is confusing the TC.

I was actually thinking the same thing, it feels like the car is trying to hook up when max torque kicks in.

Let us know how you get on, I’ve had no complaints since putting the TC into sport... I can’t feel any intervention myself.

Mine does the same . Actually bit disconcerting when you hit the gas hard when overtaking and it feels like the fuels being starved . Dosent feel like traction c intervention to me at least not in the usual sense . Almost like you are catching the transmission out from idle , don’t have the issue when I’m in full motion as it were .

I have this same issue with my FL car. It is really noticeable when pulling away 'enthusiastically' with the hold assist switched on (that's if you have this option - its the button next to the auto handbrake). When the TC is switched off it's much less noticeable, but still not as smooth as when pulling away quickly from standstill in my old PFL car. The traction control on the FL car also seems to be super sensitive, weird and slightly annoying but at least I now know that it appears to be a common trait of the car.

Is this also true in S mode?
To everyone who experiences this, which size of tires do you have in front?

Just an update on this one.

I noticed that the problem did go away with traction control off. However when it happens the traction control light doesn’t come on. It also happens very early before car starts to build any significant boost. It will happen when you press throttle pedal quickly but even with a light press. So car is not developing any power at that stage. It will do it in any mode and it’s actually more noticeable in comfort.

I went in to Audi to have it looked at. I also mentioned that the car was shifting very hard under full throttle, ie. like your slamming the clutch.

I took the tech for a drive (fortunately the problem is reasonably consistent) and he acknowledged that it was a definite fault. However he see to think it was gear box related.

When I picked up the car they said problem solved by doing a reset/ re calibration on the transmission. The first couple of times I took off it seemed ok but then it wasn’t!! The problem is still there and it can be quite a violent jerk at times, you wouldn’t want to be holding a drink.

I’d suspect it must be a traction control fault of some sort. I’ll have to book another visit when I get a chance.

The good news is that gear changes are now super smooth.

A couple of times I’ve had that really hard change from 1st to 2nd only in manual and usually dynamic.
It was so noisy I was sure something had broken.
Heard others mention this too so deemed it normal.

Is it like a loud thud when it changes to 2nd gear? I have this and still trying to figure out what is causing it. There is a chance it could be the haldex rather than the gearbox if wheel speeds aren't as they should.

I get this too, totally normal nothing to worry about

I get this too on occasions, most likely the box gets confused with all the power the car tries to put down. Hopefully an update comes soon!

Definately not normal, at least on the facelift. No one that I have spoke to who owns a facelift has said they experience the same thud as mine. And my tuner says this is the first they have come across (fl) that's doing this.

I have the PFL and experienced this quite a few times, just the characteristics of the gearbox I think.

I am 95% certain the issue is due to a little slack or lag in the AWD system. The TC system is detecting a little slip before power is distributed to the correct wheels.

Most likely a downside of a Haldex setup. Never had the problem with torsen AWD Audi's.

I had exactly the slight loss in power symptom (PFL) but it got worse and worse and would happen in 1st, 2nd and 3rd if you suddenly booted it. If you went flat out from stand still up through the box it didnt appear.

The dealer had my car for Six (6) weeks trying to resolve it and eventually found a dodgy intermittent fault on one of the spark plugs! Six f-ing weeks for a slight miss. The spark plugs should have been st port of call....

When I booked it in, I said it feels like a dodgy plug or coil pack on the way out - idiots.
