But do you have a MMI Plus? Then it can be enabled with vcds.

Video in motion is possible, but you need an AMI cable with video capabilities.

You have RMC system, not a "full mmi" .

I have touch pad and large screen with SIM card for data. My A6 is the 2015 facelift.

A friend has Vcds.

Any tips on where to enable video in motion?

Yes however the RMC systems will only play video via an AMI connected device and not from the DVD drive or SD card slots. What does this mean? Using an iPhone with a lightning connector as as example, in order to view video media you would need the following:
  • AMI (audi music interface) to RCA Cable
  • Male to Male RCA adaptors
  • RCA to HDMI convertor box
  • HDMI cable
  • Apple lighting to AV cable
You would then also need a 12v to USB x2 socket so you can pour the HDMI box and the Apple Lighting to AV cable.

Basically, in this example, Apple devices with lightning connectors only output digital video. Audi does not make a digital video cable or interface so you need to add the smarts and convertors in the middle. Seems like a faff but all the above should only cost you £80 max (without the cost of the VIM activation from me) and it will allow you to play video and even mirror your devices screen so you can use youtube etc. The main benefit of doing this however is that you could mirror apple / google maps or WAZE to your MMI screen and get cheap and up to date navigation :)

Ok gota sorce these from ebay i suppose nd den you jst need to activate it?

Correct. You can source from eBay / amazon and once everything is connected you will; be able to video media which the vehicle is stationary. You will need the Video in Motion activation in order to video while the car is moving. Just a note, some of my customers opt to use a google chrome cast or amazon fire stick so they can stream wireless :)

Ok nice mate i will order these tonight but again where does the ami cable slot into cause i cant remember seeing anything in the glove box

You should have an AMI socket in either the glovebox or in the armrest.

Even though I have google earth and 2018 maps on my MMI plus I’d still like to get Google maps from iPhone working on the screen

I’ll check out this solution

Thanks

You might only have USB ports with your system as opposed to an AMI port. If this is the case then the above will not work.

Just noticed i dont have an ami insert is that possible?

Totally possible, not common but I do come across systems which have not been spec’d with an Ami port.

Well thats out the window is there a fix?

Might be possible to retrofit the AMI. RMC is different to MMI for retrofits and I would need to do some research in order to know what’s possible. Someone else might know different.
