Ibis White Cleaning Advice

Hi Guys,

I have a 8V black edition S3 in Ibis White, exactly as below, just looking for some cleaning advice from fellow white car owners.

Not looking to spend a fortune on products, £100 max.

Currently I have just been jet washing the car and the only products I have are Meguiars Hot Rims for the wheels and every now and then I give the paint a once over with Ultimate Quick Detailer and I have been using Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner on the windows (which is great in the shade, but a streaky nightmare when applied in sunlight). Oh and I have some Autosol for the tail pipes but that's about it!

I do have a Nilfisk jetwash so I could always buy a foam adapter if that's the way to go..

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.
 
Go with dodo juice lime prime and soft 99 Fusso coat light..... Both excellent products all for under £40

Any advice on how best to apply these products and how often to use?
I'm guessing these are both for bodywork only? (sorry, detailing newbie here)

The lime prime is to prep the paint its a cleanser basically, apply with a microfibre pad one panel at a time, buff off one panel at a time,until you've done at least 50% of the car, then apply the Fusso coat light to one panel at a time let it cure according to the manufacturer instructions and buff off, its a Sealant for light coloured cars mate with great water repellency and it's also very very durable

I'm guessing I don't need to use these products for every clean? What would you recommend for in-between clean/wax?

The products l mentioned are low maintenance once applied should last 3/4 months
Buy some bilt hamber snow foam and a lance 2 drying towels and a quick detailer of your choice l prefer Done and Dusted after a wash also car shampoo, all you need really barring a glass cleaner Angelwax vision, have a look at in2detailing.co.uk for all of products mentioned mate

Now there's a can of worms you've opened...! :)

As Jassyo06 has said BH auto foam, but you can use this from a pump sprayer rather than a lance if you want as it's a little cheaper that way and the mix is easier to get right. This helps to lift the crap of the paintwork before you go near it with a mitt. Then jet wash it off with the Nilfisk

I like the 2 bucket method, some will agree some won't. You don't have to have fancy buckets if you don't want to as 2 from halfords or b&q will work fine.

You need a good quality shampoo and this is where there's loads of choices. I use Gtechniq Gwash as I know it's safe on the coatings I have, it works really well and smells nice, but this is good as well Auto Wash.

You need a good wash mitt and preferably one that will last a while. Go for one of these and I know Jassy will agree- Incredimitt

You also need a good drying towel, I use Fecks Professor Plush towels but these are cheaper and get good reviews.

Basically, you are trying to prevent as much slight surface marring as possible while washing the car as you can. Anything that helps to do this is a good thing. From then you are protecting that shine with a sealant of some sort so it is easier to clean in the future. For a white car you want a sealant rather than a wax as you want the sharpness from a white car rather than a deep wet look of a wax (unfortunately white cars don't have the depth of shine compared to other colours). Jassy's suggestion of lime prime is good one to really get the surface clean and prepped for Fusso. I've used this in the past but it was on a black car and I did have a few smearing issues but I think that was my over usage of the product and poor technique. White should be a lot easier and for the money is an excellent shout.

Detailingworld is a great resource but there is lots to read with hundreds of opinions for absolutely everything so it will take a bit of reading. There is also a good section that lists all the discount codes for online stores so you can save a bit of money as as well. :)

So are you suggesting snow foam and then also shampoo or is that unnecessary and best to just go with one or the other?
 
Snow foam first as this helps to move the bigger particles away as they get trapped in the foam. Then jet wash it off, then shampoo. The idea is by the time you get to the shampoo all the bits that could scratch the car have been washed away and all you are left with is the grime. :)

Got it, so if I'm going to use the lime prime I guess I should foam and shampoo first and then begin the lime and fusso application?

I had a rummage around last night in my parents garage and what do you know, a full bottle of lime prime! I must have bought this years ago for my last S3.

I'll order some Fusso now, cheers!

Great mate remember, remember don't leave the lime prime on too long apply leave 30 secs and buff off it leaves a stunning glossy smooth finish

I've never used Lime Prime, but would you need to do a full decon first i.e tar and fallout removal? I guess it depends on the age of the car and when it was last done. Saying that I'm always surprised how much rubbish sticks to the car in a short amount of time.

1 year old, 1 previous owner so I'm guessing it hasn't ever been done.
 
Well it's up to you of course but I'd be looking at a full decon as well then. So that's tar remover, I like Auto Finesse obliterate but Tardis is supposed to be very good, fallout remover BH Korrosol is the best I've used so far (AG Magma was pretty good as well and easy to get from Halfords), then it's claying time. For ease of use the G3 clay mitt is good (bed it in on the windscreen first) or BH soft clay as all this needs is water. Once again have a look on youtube or detailingworld for full decontamination.

The easy way to tell is if you run your fingers over the paint (roof and bonnet are best) and you can feel stuff stuck to the paint then it needs it. The paint should be as smooth as glass before sealing it. Please only do this when it's been washed otherwise you'll be scratching your paint...! :)

Jassy might be able to offer advice as to whether lime prime would do any of this or not. :)

Lime prime will remove all the products previously applied but won't remove fall out etc, it's all really about the paints condition to be honest fallout and tar spots are easily noticed on a white car... Play it by ear as they say, budget is a considering factor as well

I do 2-3 non touch washes and then one full hand wash!

For the hand wash I use snow foam, rinse, hand wash using a MF cloth, rinse, dry, and then QD to finish.

You wash yer car with a cloth and snowfoam? Would like to see the results of this over a period of 3 months on a dark paint, l think looking at all the swirls on the paint would make you feel dizzy

No, snow foam, rinse, hand wash using a MF cloth.

My black car did OK over 2.5 years, you don't get much darker than that ;)
