So I’ve pulled the plug and getting a Wagner intercooler, filter and remap to stage 1 on Thursday so I’ll see what all the fuse is about.

Planning on induction kit but they don’t have any in stock so I’ll fit at a later date.

Where are you getting it done? Awesome? £1,140?

Seen a post by APR where they overlay a competitor car and the figures off of Awesome’s dynojet are seriously low.

Hold on a minute, I’ll dig it out.

Well not seriously low but 466bhp at flywheel from a 416bhp start point. Beats the competitor whoever that was (Litchfield probably).

May have just been a hot day when they done it but only 50bhp jump there above. May need an intercooler to get the most out of it.

No Ecotune Glasgow should be a nice drive out on Thursday

Ecotune is close to me to do very interested to see how this goes for you:)
I fancy new intercooler to keep it cool

Hoping its similar size and type to oem but better performing /deeper maybe

For info, this was my Dragy time last night after having an APR Stage 1 map done on Friday. Very pleased with the increase in power! I made 3.61 on the same road in stock.

98 Ron or E85?

That is damn quick either way

You can’t readily purchase E85 here in the U.K. E85 only comes from 2 specialist suppliers in the country and it costs around £5.25 a litre ($7 a litre) - It’s also a nightmare to run as you can’t mix E85 with unleaded, you need to practically run the car until it’s choking and spluttering on normal pump fuel, add in the E85, drive around 5 miles or so more so that it’s only E85 going through the pump and fuel lines, and then switch the map over. Fuel consumption it’s about 30% more than normal pump fuel also.

I used to run my Evo X on E85, on a spirited drive I’d be lucky to get 200 km out OF a tank. While E85 is reasonably accessible in Australia where I’m located, I still had to carry an extra jerry can on club drives or have my PC in the car so I can switch maps and fill with 98. It was a pain in the AR...
I did eventually get a map which would self adjust parameters in ECU depending on the mix of fuel in the tank. But I was over the car by then. :)
Smelly stuff the E85 and it makes your engine oil look crap.

FYI my old PFL RS3 got to 60 in 3.6s and the RS4 does it in 3.28s so down at 3.15s you are bloomin quick!

3.2s to 60mph for a stock RS4 is mighty impressive!!

Would love to know what your 0-100mph is... 7.5s perhaps?

Imho it is the extra torque helping it as almost 500ft2 at less than 3k as dyno'd recently. At Rockingham the car was trapped at 93mph at end of 200m strip and 7.4s (a good second quicker than PFL RS3 last year); low 8 I'd say to 100mph. Weight starting to bog it down a bit at that speed ...

Dont mean to pi*s on your chips TX but the timing equipment at GTI international (If that's the event you are referring too) has always been very dodgy. This years was pretty much the worst set of results I have ever seen from the event. There were cars there a good half a second quicker than vbox and Dragy timing equipment. Dave's RS3 for example hitting 2.58secs but on Dragy, he's well over 3secs. There was a Golf R there with a 1.92 0-60 time and an RS7 with a 2.2 0-60, never in a month of sundays are those times possible on those cars. Lots of cars were timing under 3secs.

Pinch of salt I would say, not your own figures but that of GTI international. No idea if an RS4 will legitimately do a 3.2 0-60 out the box. Perhaps on a vbox with 1ft rollout switched on but cant see the big heavy brute managing it on a Dragy though? Audi quote 4.1 to 62 so 3.9 to 60. Audi always conservative, I reckon 3.6-3.7 would be more likely for an RS4/5.

Edit...

0-160 in 8.5

So yeah you're pretty much bang on at mid 8's for the ton. Mid 3's for the 60. Would say very similarly paced to the FL RS3's, pretty much neck and neck.

Coincidentally, Carwow's Mat Watson has just released a video of him timing his own RS4.

Vbox came back with 0-60 in 3.5s and 0-100 in 8.8s. He had 45 miles of fuel range left so was fairly empty. I obviously can't comment on how flat the road was or other conditions but seems about right.

Saw that. He launched in ESC sport, surely needs to be ESC off for the best launch?

I've done all my launches in ESC sport and not fully off, never actually tried with fully off.

lol other way about for me, only ever launched with it completely off. Thought it had to be to work. Need to try with ESC sport then

The Golf R running sub 2 second 0-60 had an RS3 lump in it running over 700bhp with drag slicks. Not exactly a standard Golf R. Ran 9.7s at 143mph at Santa Pod.

The timing gear at GTI international has the potential to be very accurate but relies on the car being staged in exactly the same place each time as far as I can see. If the car had more of a roll out before it hit the timing beam it would certainly set a faster 1/8 mile time. They use radar speed guns to measure the speed but if the 0-60 timing starts when the car breaks the beam and the ends when the radar gun sees the car at 60 again the roll out will help that.

Last year in the RS3 it was 3.6s to 60 and this year in the 4 it was 3.28s to 60. Terminal speed at 200m was a good 10mph higher too. Nay bad for a barge!

Not bad at all when you consider the extra weight against it and little extra power, but then you have that torque. The torque that really took me by surprise on my drive!

So I’ve pulled the plug and getting a Wagner intercooler, filter and remap to stage 1 on Thursday so I’ll see what all the fuse is about.

Planning on induction kit but they don’t have any in stock so I’ll fit at a later date.

Do they have to fit the FMIC tomorrow morning followed by the tune? Wonder if they will do a before FMIC dyno, after FMIC dyno, then Stage 1?

The only nuisance you are going to have tomorrow is the heatwave. FMIC fitting is about 3hrs then your tune and dyno, it’s going to be about 1-2pm by the time it’s run on dyno.

Weather tomorrow in Glasgow is going to top at 32c, it will be even warmer in the workshop. Crazy temperatures for Glasgow. I believe their dyno reads as it measures rather than using a correction factor on the reading for temperature/humidity. You’ll be on the dyno at the hottest part of the day too.

You’ll need to go back for a run in November to get a cold figure ;)

Yep temps aren’t good tomoz but as long as it feels fast I’m cool with that, plus it’s going stage 2 as soon as Apr do the downpipe.
Not sure if they will do the dyno run yet will find out more when I get there.

Std 426.6 bhp 413.9ftlbs
Stage 1 490.6 bhp 490.9 ftlbs
Suffered from the heat with colder temps it would be over 500bhp

Apr filter and Wagner Intercooler
Apr Stage 1 I also have the E85 map too just incase I want to get it a go been seeing as high as 560bhp on E85

Either way, nice result. As you say, colder temps with a remap and intercooler should should see around the 500bp mark. Car must feel rapid now

Nice figures bud, my business is 2 streets down from ecotune so will keep a lookout for your car, Stan is a good lad

Did Ecotune install the IC and filter before mapping the car or did you do this before visiting them?

Very interested to know how you find the car now...

Glasgow was the 2nd hottest place in Britain yesterday with temps peaking at 32c. Yours was run around 2-3pm so pretty much at the hottest time of day too. Believe the temps peaked around 4-5pm.

However, the figures do have a correction factor applied, you’ll see the CF column showing on both runs at 1.04.

This means the figures have had a 4% correction factor applied due to the temperature and humidity conditions in order to normalise the readings. The dyno software does this automatically, it’s not operator induced.

The measured values on the day would have been 410hp (x1.04) = 426.4hp standard and 472hp (x1.04) = 490.8hp tuned.

As the correction factor has already been applied to normalise the temperature, it’s likely that the same setup in winter would also display around 490hp.

This to be honest is pretty much in line with what you would expect from a Stage 1 with intercooler. Add in the DP and Stage 2 and you’ll probably get a standardised figure of around 510-520hp.

Dyno’s are a bit of a minefield, best dyno is the ar*e dyno and that of before and after timing log runs. (Vbox, Dragy)

What fuel were you using? Momentum, Vpower, BP Ultimate?

Actually I got 492.3 bhp but lower ftlbs at 489.8.
It goes like a rocket now and was in well over 40 degree heat.
Intercooler and filter was done before the Dyno run.
