alloy sizes

Hi,
im about to order some new alloys for rs3 saloon. Cos they are coming from quite away, im trying to confirm the fitting and I want to avoid returns etc. The store themselves dont have much of a clue but can you advise if these will fit all round
19" X 8.5J 5X112 ET40

im also wanting to know what mix of tyre sizes is recommended by forum members. ie. wider at back

I'd keep tyres the same size all round, unless you match Audi's set up with the wider fronts. If your rolling radius is out front to back, it'll play hell with the 4x4. I've also never been comfortable with an offset too far off standard as it messes with the steering geometry. ET40 shouldn't be too bad, I think standard is ET44. I've had alloys machined before to adjust the offset and it surprised me how much difference it made.

I too always believed that on a 4wd, tyres should be the same all round, I guess the ‘unusual’ fitting on the saloon is due to its makeup...
I agree with ET fittings, I was told as a rule of thumb not to go over + or - 5mm, but even that seems quite generous to me..lol

Do you have the standard alloys or the staggered ones mate? On the saloon the sizes are... if it helps...

With an “et” less than the standards it will push the alloy wider so should fit... that said, it’s also down to the shape of the alloy and the angle of the spokes etc, are they concaved?

Another thing to consider is if they'll fit over the brakes.

Personally if the wheel manufacturer/supplier can't guarantee fitment, I'd steer clear.

Yes i have the boring standard setup with same tyres all round and what makes it worse is that I have the silver finish alloys. no disrespect to anyone else who may have them, they just dont suit me.

Im going for the r8 replicas see pic. oem are way too costly...

Ps: your right about the brakes, but i guess getting small et than standard 42 will push them away further from brakes.

Ill have re evaluate the supplier as theres not many who have these in grey at mo..

That would be me, and I have to agree with you. Standard alloys are meh. I prefer the alloys off my old S3, they were at least diamond cut. I've been considering going for 20" when I need some new tyres. Only problem is I'm very conscious of adding too much extra unsprung mass, and it's a pain trying to get weights of some of the wheels on the market. Quite like the AEZ raize in 20"x8", with 235 30 r20 rubber. Otherwise it will be OZ leggera HLT, which are only 10Kg each.

Ideally I'd like something like on the A3 clubsport, but finding something that will fit properly and doesn't weigh a ton is a nightmare!

yep the A3 clubsport alloys are nice..
Would be great to hear what aftermarket configurations people have got away with if any.

With 20s... tyre prices/ london potholes deter me from going that route..

I’m looking at wheels myself and I would like to have atleast a 255 tyre all round.

Has anyone checked clearances at the rear? With the right offset I’m hoping there should be room for more tyre.

I’m planning to try my front 255’s on the rear to see how they fit, that should give me an idea on clearance. I’ll put some heavy guys in the back and hit some corners to see if there is any rubbing.
