The 5500rpm cold start warning.

Well in the first place I think for the same reason why people want to change the comfort indicator cycle from 3 to 4.
Because it's possible.
Propably.

This yellow beep tone at startup is quite annoying like "wtf is wrong, engine broken" but nothing is actually wrong ;)
Imagine your horn would give a sound every time you change gears.

@hadez16 changing indicator flashes is hardly a fair comparison to make now is it ?

For one....its a well documented viable working change

As for the cold start warning......you get in press the button car beeps but so what ? it's lost / forgotten about when the 5 pot barks over it.

One beep is hardly an issue.

But as Leo says it highlights this to not so savvy owners.

It helps to give people an awareness of some mechanical sympathy, because everything is cold.....

If i had my way it would stay on until the car is ready for some proper action......

I offer codings for other people.
One says "Holy shh I want that needle sweep"
Next says "wtf is this sshhh. Nonsense"

It is very hard to judge in general as everyone has personal preferences. Like 3 indicator flashes or 4.

Thats actually a bit of a bad example. Many people actually want to change the comfort indicator cycle for good reason: 2 flashes to warn people about your wanting to change lane, 3 flashes to then complete your move :)

The "Rev Limiting" is actually a function of the ECU's firmware, which has actually already ben mapped out by some much like the "rattle" on cold start can be also, however "mapping" is the issue here as people do not want to use any warranty issues.

Only thing I don't understand with this is that the cold start reve limiter goes up to 7k before the engine oil is even above 70deg which I've never understood. I thought around 75-80 is usually the oil temp required before thrashing it? So what's the point of limiting it in the first place if it doesn't do it properly

Maybe Audi know something we ‘experts’ don’t

I imagine it is the usual fight between Engineers and Marketing. Have it a lot within the automotive industry.

Engineers may want a limit until 80degC but marketing dont want to limit a customers ability to drive hard should they wish.

WHY does it beep every time to warn me about this rpm limit on cold start?
Drives me f-n crazy!

Is there a way to shut the beep of and just have the warning message in the display?
Or shut of both and just have the rpm limit there?
Thanks for this post, I thought my new Rs3 was broke the morning after I bought it, was one minute from telling the dealer to collect it, after my focus rs experience I thought *** not again lol so I thank you all.

Absolutely agree, it’s only a fricking beep and a yellow icon for a few minutes.

I don’t think I even noticed it until I read this thread. :)

But I always keep an eye on my guages to make sure that oil and coolant are up to temp. But its the gearbox that takes a long time to get to temp. Dual clutch boxes are notoriously slow to come to temp.
