Was chatting to the dealer this week contemplating trading in my A3 sometime in March ‘when the new model will hopefully be out’. He replied the ‘new model’ will merely be a facelift.

Anyone have any details on this? I’ve read online (Auto Express) that there will be a new generation (ie not a facelift) A3 announced later this year for release in 2019.

I suspect it was BS from the dealer as he’s likely got existing stock he wants rid of before the new tax and emissions regs potentially affect sales in September. The current model, facelift aside, is now six years old so is getting near the end of the production line I would have thought.

Which leads me nicely to the next question. Should I take advantage of the hypothetical stock car, assuming it’s loaded to the hilt with options and comes with a hefty discount or wait till next year and see what happens with the ‘new’ A3?

Can't see it will be a facelift, would be silly to have a facelift of a facelift…

I think the dealers believe we are all naïve. I was looking at a A4 TFSI quattro last year but was told that that engine setup was no longer available to buy, they then tried to talk me into a V6 diesel. The same dealership has an 18 plate TFSI quattro for sale. Feel like phoning them to make some mischief.

I was in the similar position and understand what you thinking when i brought my S3 in April should i wait see what the next a3 brings. But at the end of the day i really liked the current FL A3 especially in Saloon version so i said to myself just buy it and enjoy it and never look back since.
I will be trading in my s3 when the new S3 Black Edition arrives whenever that is i'm guessing about 3 years or more because they don''t release the Black Edition's until well after the new model's out.

I have a few friend's who works at Audi and he told me it will be a brand new model A3 not FL, but no information on it yet.

Its likely to remain on the MQB platform but its safe to say there will be a range of new engines with more emphasis on hybrid technology.

Car builders focus on brand identity so it will have a scaled down look of the new A9 which I believe is the latest car in the Audi family due for unveiling later this year at the big european motor shows. I hope to god they resist the urge to use the same bling-tastic rear light array on the latest A8.

It will have Audi nonsensical engine badge too.

maybe he was joking as Audi hardly push the limits with design!

This much is true. I think the 8V had replaced the 8P for six months before I even noticed! Although I wasn’t an Audi owner at the time so didn’t follow things as closely back then.

I’d give my left nut for those new lights on the A6/A8 though. And dynamic sweep indicators. I love all that kind of jazz even though I wouldn’t be able to see it on my own car. Call me vain but I think it adds to the four rings kudos. And it looks cool.

I believe someone has already spotted these on a truck somewhere. Novelty's definitely dead and buried now :welcoming:

Yeah I saw a Ford people carrier with them last week. Looked cheap and tacky compared to Audi’s implementation of course. Audi should have put a patent on them. Still look cool and remind me of Knight Rider back in the day. Maybe it’s my inner child that likes them so much lol.

I wouldn’t say I’m loaded but I’m reasonably well off. I also have a wife who much prefers spending money on things for the house than me spending it on a quote ‘silly car’. :-(

Although the wife also says wait for the new model as there’s not much point changing my car for an identical one in a different colour. Which is a fair point.

Same as this^. Was thinking about waiting for the all new A3 but I love the current 8V so I thought why not. Only slight difference with me is I’m going from a PFL A3 to a FL S3 so I am getting a reasonable change out of it.

I’m in the same boat! Way I saw it was that I was due a change, and the new model s3 is a good 2-2.5 years away and the fact I was going from pfl A3 to fl s3 it’s still a massive step up, especially considering I’ve got a lot more on the cars compared. By the time the new s3 is out and the stealers start doing discounts, it should marry up with the time I’ll be due to upgrade again!

Yep, I've seen them on a lorry, a Range Rover, Peugeot have them on the front so does the Citroen DS3. I'm sure there's more.

Dynamic indicators are pointless except that children might view them as cool!

If Range Rovers now have them they can't be cool ;-)

I've even seen the dynamic indicators on a bin lorry now *** lol :tearsofjoy:

They are / were cool ... but all the other car brands have copied them so they are common place and the unique-ness has been diluted now :worried:

The lights as on the A7 are the next big WOW in lights - Audi definitely lead the way in cool light design

The MK8 VW Golf is out next year. A new model, not a facelift

So stands to reason a all new A3 will be out as well.

The only thing to maybe think about now, is once these new Real world mpg / co2 figures change in September, some cars are suddenly going to find themselves in a higher Tax band. So it may make sense to change before September to avoid higher VED

Definitely a brand new car next year - we have had the facelift now already.

The new Merc A Class has just been released, with the Golf and A3 to follow early next year as noted.

The dealer mentioned this and I suspect that’s why he wants me to change now, to help shift stock they can otherwise only sell post September if they’re pre-registered the cars to themselves. I’ll wait for the new one.

Just read MK8 VW Golf production starts in June 2019, guessing the A3 won’t be too far behind.

The new GTI will be circa 250bhp standard and around 270 with the performance pack utilising hybrid tech for the extra power.

The current A3/ S3 is still a superb car so if you can get a great deal, then no reason at all not to investigate :icon thumright:

Only problem with waiting is that you won't get a good deal / discount on the new car. Just like every new car when it comes out, demand is high, so discounts and deals low.

Yes that is very true.

Early adopters always pay the price with Dealers reluctant to give big discounts on new launch cars.

It is quite simple at the moment with post April 17 cars - below 40 grand list price or above 40 grand.
Is our government planning on moving the goal posts again regarding VED?

How do you know you'll like the all new A3.... I have just watched a video of All new A1 top specced cars, one was the fully loaded launch edition and not a LOOKER at all and build quality is lower as well, the current A1 is high on build quality and didn't share any interior plastics with seat and skoda... . Again cost cutting but charging big bucks by Audi expect the same with the new A3 car, lower build quality but with fancier touchscreen ergonomics and sharing interior plastic with other vag brands, l noticed the slight drop in build quality between my PFL and my current car ie column stalks steering wheel, removal of Global opening of the pano-roof and most of all the starting price of my current car was the exact same price of my nicely specced S3 sportback 3 years ago, so expect all the desirable new A3 models to hit the higher VED .. . As others have said No discounts at all for at least the first 8 months of production
Hybrid power is minimum a 48v rechargeable battery that can run the lighting systems etc etc, it's not performance oriented

Yea control stalks etc not so good on the FL. not had pan roof before so I won’t notice the difference there. shame all of the S3 designators now only ‘S’ too. The ‘fancy’ touchscreen tech also a pet hate of mine which is another reason I went for one now; I really don’t like the new dash’s on the likes of the A7 and A6, and I also don’t like the stuck on iPhone on A4 and A5. As Goldilocks would say, the A3 is just right.

Some compelling arguments to bag an FL Black Edition or even S3 here. My PCP isn’t up till September 2019 so I may be in negative equity but I’ll have a chat as I’m in for the MOT soon anyway. If the price is right I might be tempted. If the new Golf isn’t in production until next June then the new A3 might not be available next September when I need to change - especially if there’s a waiting list. Decisions decisions.

Jassy - please post a link to new A1.

Didn't think anything official was out there yet.

A3 is the biggest car I have owned and might go smaller again.

New A1 might be on my list as it the Up GTI!

Why do they have to?

Audi seem pretty successful just design tweaking a brand image. More Audi’s and specifically A3’s/S3’s on the road than even, out selling merc and bmw. Audi not so much exclusive and aspirational these days IMHO, next version A/S3 won’t be top of my list
