@Gazwould said.. Get yourself some Hammerite Smooth. Either spray or brush able versions. I have used both. This time I used the spray version on this car and I think it gives a better finish.
Spray version does however requires a little more prep (to mask surrounding areas and close body work) but provides a quicker and better finish as you can add additional light coats far quicker ... (about every 15 mins vs 2 hours for brush version). But depends how good you are with a paint brush. Either 4-5 light coats with a spray can or 2 coats with the paint brush version and you are done.
Here are some pics from when I did mine about 6 weeks ago. Rears after a light rub with sandpaper and a wire wool brush. You can see rust starting on the outer edge and car had only done 1,500 miles.
Mask brakes and disc.... just spray edge of the hub and the very centre hub and feather edge, not the main face that the wheel connects with or the bulk of the centre hub.
After 2 - 3 light coats...
Final 5th light coat
Fronts can just be cleaned and treated with a sealant and should be ok. You can ofcourse spray them as well if you like but a bit more fiddly. I used a wheel sealant on the front brake calipers and front hubs.
Use the 15 mins drying time between coats to clean and seal the alloy wheels. I used the same Chemical guys wheel sealant Then you are all done !
Personal preference, but I add a little bit of copper grease on edge of the hub before adding wheel. ( you do not paint that bit ) and then put wheels back on.
Then you are done for hopefully several years!
