Wonder if you good people on the other side of the pond know anything about this, I was reading on a different forum a post from an Audi tech that explained how the Start-Stop Feature could be turned off as default with an OBD2 scanner. Really interesting, don't have my new ride yet but plan on trying this after it arrives.

Here's a link for the original post;

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...as-Default?p=11729120&viewfull=1#post11729120

If anyone is able to try or confirm please let us know.

Here is a copy of the post;

Hey guys, was messing around with the scan tool on my car. I was able to turn off the start/stop feature (since I think it is annoying as well). It will remain off even if you press the button for start/stop. I also eliminated the seat belt warning as well since I think it is ridiculously loud on our cars. It is in OBD - ECM - ADAPTATIONS. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, seems like a lot of people are interested in having this feature off by default in North America also. Cheers.

You can do it with VCDS http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/vcds-faqs.27487/ Or there are modules that plug once only into the port that can turn it off permanantly.
This https://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/d...agen-audi/coding-interface-disable-start-stop probably not for your car as it is new.

Just wondering has anybody used the above Kufatec gadget? Their website states its A4 8W (B9) compatible but I have emailed them anyway asking if it can be used with a MY18 B9. If its compatible I'm guessing this is the cheapest way to permanently disable stop/start on my car? Going to my local indy VAG specialist is probably out of the question as they would charge me at least 50 quid to get it done via VCDS.

Cheers

Can't see why the Kufatec dongle wouodn't be compatible and yes I believe this has been used by forum contributors...

Thanks cuke, have also asked on the Carista thread as it *may* be possible to get it done via beta Carista. If so, probably works out cheaper than buying the Kufatec dongle.

Why bother recoding, just switch the damn thing off when you get in the car. I have made it part of my start up procedure, press the start/stop button, move hand a few inches to the left or right to switch off start/stop. Works for me every time.

As has been posted several times before, if you've a stronic gearbox then placing it in sport also disables it...

Or popping the transmission in manual mode too...

Especially in a 2.0 190ps diesel it’s really annoying. Quite violent restart and the delay scares me at a junction. Stopping the engine when it really shouldn’t. Our sportage was much better at judging when to turn the engine off. I never felt the need to turn it off. How Audi didn’t spot this is strange.

Yeah i know there's a hard switch for it however i've forgotten to activate the button a number of times already so would prefer a more permanent solution.

Anyway I've ordered a Carista OBD2 dongle for 15 quid, hopefully using the beta Carista app will allow me the switch the damn thing off for good. I will post back my feedback in a day or two.

Pressing the stop start button rarely stops it kicking in! Mine still kicks in sometimes with the button pressed. Done it in all the other B9’s I have driven as well.

Never happened on mine.

I'm certain mine doesn't do this and will actually turn the engine back on if the button is pressed while the engine is stopped. I think there may be a fault or you've not pushed the button properly if it's happened in other ones as well... Might as well not have the button if it doesn't do anything.

Yes no Audi, or any other car I've driven, has exhibited the start/stop button not disabling the system unless the engine it powered off then on again.

VCDS here in West Yorkshire. I can turn it off permanently.

If you switch drive select modes and it goes past/to efficiency then SS will be enabled again.

It’s definitely enabled when I’ve pressed it as the button light is on! Wish you could disable it via OBD.

Well the Carista OBD2 dongle paired with the Carista app on my iPhone turned out to be useless so thats £15 down the drain :(

I've now ordered the Kufatec dongle for £30 which *should* do the trick but at least I know I will get my money back if it doesn't work.

Aaarrrrghhhhh....Kufatec dongle doesn't work either :( I'm beginning to think perhaps the start/stop feature cannot be disabled permanently on the latest ECU software on MY18 cars...that or I'm jinxed lol

Anyway I've got in touch with Richter Sport (whom I bought the dongle off), if they can't get this fixed, I hope they have the decency to refund me.

You may have to contact Kufatec direct but it's strange if that's the case. If the software was different in your car then audi-sport member DJAlix would possibly know...

Yeah its possible the dongle could be faulty. The top Kufatec dongle is the Traffic Sign Recognition mod dongle (worked ok) and the bottom one is the start/stop mod dongle. As you can see on the bottom dongle, one of its internal components doesn't appear to be completely fixed to the circuit board, unlike the top one. However when I plug the start/stop dongle into my PC, the Kufatec software reads it ok...[rolls eyes]

Aaaaaarrrgggghhhhhhh......received the replacement Kufatec start-stop dongle today and surprise surprise that also doesn't work. After plugging in the dongle into the OBD port, the red LED on the dongle stays lit for about 5 seconds and then goes off. I've sent the car's chassis # (VIN) to Richter Sport to get confirmation if my vehicle is compatible with the dongle. I'm beginning to suspect its not, as the first dongle didn't work as well as the Carista dongle/app.

Seems like Audi have made some changes then. I suggest you contact Kufatec direct as well...

Yeah I did give Kufatec in Germany a call this morning, but surprisingly they were rather unhelpful saying they can't help me as I didn't purchase the dongle from them directly (kufatec.de). I was hoping to cut out the middle-man (Richter Sport, T/A kufatec.co.uk) in trying to get this resolved but I guess that's not possible.

That's a shame, perhaps you can get Richter Sport to refund you and buy directly from Kufatec, you never know theirs might work...

Was in the Glasgow area today and took the car into an indy (Audi VW Centre in Duntocher) to see if they could hook my car to VCDS and find out what's going on wrt start/stop system. Indeed they did manage to switch off start/stop permanently through VCDS however this throws up a permanent error message on the dashboard something like "start/stop system malfunction, service required" so got the garage to change it back to factory setting. The mechanic said further coding may be required to stop the error message but its not something which can be done easily. So it seems Audi have made it more difficult to deactivate start/stop permanently on the latest My18 B9 ECU - which probably explains why the Carista OBD2 and Kufatec dongles don't work.

It may well be, have you fed this back to Kufatec?
Yes, I've informed Kufatec via Richter Sport of this but its extremely slow getting answers back from Richter Sport. Huge mistake buying the dongle from kufatec.co.uk (aka Richter sport) rather than direct from Germany (kufatec.de)

Try this with only ignition on.....will work without errors. When you made the change (sometimes it gives an error, but no worries), turn ignition off and wait for 10min. Then start and test drive. Error will also be gone.

Modul 08
Adaptation
channel IDE03253 - A/C comfort parameter for start-stop function
Current value 5

Change it to 0

Use the latest vcds version, best is a Hex-net cable.

Thanks for this suggestion. Unfortunately the VAG indy I took my car to is 300 miles away (round trip) and since none of the VAG specialists near me will touch my car (wrt start-stop deactivation), i'm thinking of buying the VCDS cable & software myself and do the mod myself - as well as other potential mods. Will something like this do the trick?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-COM-...2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.XVCDS.TRS0

Btw I have returned the Kufatec start-stop dongle for a refund.

Cheers

For the B9 i suggest an original Hex-net cable.

Thinking about this further, the above mod will only deactivate the start-stop as long as the aircon is on, right? If so, can't start-stop be deactivated regardless if the aircon is on or off? It just that I prefer to let the engine warm up for 5 mins or so before switching the heating/aircon on and in that time i would like start-stop to remain off.

No it does not matter if airco is on or not. It 's parameter setting

There really is no need I can think off why you feel you need to do this, so why?

Thanks mate, have ordered VCDS software & cable from eBay. Will let you know how I get on!

When defrosting the car if it snowed outside? There is a coding so you can close the car with the keyfob and running engine. DJAlix calls it "warm up something fancy" (can't Remember).
